About the Montgomerie course
Designed by Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie, his course at Celtic Manor resort opened in 2007 with the epic 2010 Ryder cup course.
Colin’s new course has used the opening and closing holes from the earlier Westwood Hills course for its front nine and the back nine has been created from land that was once Celtic Manors 18 hole Coldra Woods academy course.
While Montys course features a few deep pot bunkers it also has some dramatic elevation drops making it as one stage feel like playing in the classic Swiss open course. We have some great shots across valleys and also some funnel like tee shots through woodland vistas.
This course is 6,371 yards and a par 69 which accompanies the other 2 championship courses nicely but don’t expect an easy ride. This third part to the Celtic Manor trio has reaffirmed its position as the premier golf resort in Wales.

@@cartersmithgolf 😂😂😂it certainly can, played in the club comp last sunday and shot an awful 106, played the day after & shot 91 for a +3 73 each round can certainly be different.

Fantastic, that’s a really tricky tee shot especially the first hole of the day. Yeah they switched it around for covid (so we can have a stop by the cafe on the 10th Roman half way around).

That logo is So shinny lol, can you imagine Augustas hills? The camera flattens so much. Another thing it showed on here is the way it lengthens the look of the putts. I have people unsubscribing because of the yardage it looked like I holed. 😂😂

Very enjoyable video. It is interesting to see how a very good player tackles this course. I had terrible trouble with it but never played before and it was incredibly wet. Do you think you would benefit from a 2 iron or driving iron on the tighter tee shots - particularly up there when it gets very windy? I have bought a Lynx 16 degree driving iron and is brilliant to use - even off the fairway

Hi David, I do carry a 3iron that flys like a driving iron. Generally speaking I’m fairly straight with my driver and the latest policy seems to be bomb it on every Tee shot and get as close to the green as possible. Stats say this is better in the long run. Yeah I agree that was devastating golf. There’s many ways to get aground you just have to find the one that works with your tendencies.
