How so? Aside from being way worse than you'd expect of that, it makes sense physics wise. land on the nose but wheels turned out from the original slide, that tiled the car sideways and into the roll. Some bad angle on that jump entry, but it could have been road camber or bumps that caused it. It is pretty hectic that a nosebump from a jump turns into that level of crash though, poor Ott and Co have been through some of the worst crashes I've ever seen!
How? It landed at an angle an the top part of the car must be heavy cos it rolled into a flip then an the wheels spun it off? Watch the wheels as it lands an ul see.
Definitely bad luck but these kind of crashes don't happen without driver error (unless the car itself breaks and causes the crash). There is an error but isn't a big one.
Ott won this stage, SS Raanitsa 1 & 2 last year (SS 4 & 7). This jump is 3:39 into the stage. Watching the onboard from 2023 there is a very fast slight right - left before the right over the crest of this jump. You can see from the 2023 onboard that he makes a small correction to keep the chassis "straight" with the racing line (not sideways) over the crest and is much deeper into the right pocket of the corner over the jump. Unless something did break, I think he may have just let the rear left swing out too much after the fast right-left-right and as soon as he got airborne the momentum spun the car around, and the traction from the wheels did the rest to cause the roll. Glad crew is OK.
Probably the sideways angle was planned correctly. Some say the differentials did not work correctly to produce enough speed and power at the wheels touching the ground - so the speed of the wheels remained too low and it gripped to the road instead of making it slide on all 4. It can be seen in the video, indeed, that it kind of sticks to the ground with the left side as a train running on rails. So the inertia from the jump and the curve cannot be smoothed out by a slide. Maybe they tested some new diff parts or settings in this rally. Not sure. In the worst case scenario he was not in high enough gear, or the force from the landing from that jump was too much and created to excess grip on landing on one side.
You can see the left rear suspension not compressing on landing. Something must’ve broken there after decompression and under full throttle the wheel just brought the car sideways and under.
Someone said on other video that they had flat tire already before coming to the jump. I don’t know if thats true, but if that is, they might have had some suspension damage possibly too and then on the jump it didn’t take the landing well. Who knows 🤷🏻♂️
This is incredible, thanks God he is alive!! If I will credit you with direct link in description and without cut your logo, can I please use it in my next crazy rally?
Ott already know.....if crush...than make it special.....Monte Carlo 2020.....and now, and ofcourse Mexico Titänak......crush always with class :D Amazing crush this tiime also.
I really don't like this move to spaceframe cars. As soon as they get in a big accident all the body panels fly off and the occupants are exposed to anything that can go through the gaps in the cage. Obviously the windows were equally weak in production derived WRC shells, but at least the doors, roof etc provided a decent amount of protection.
Very similar to Neuville’s crash few years back at Chile. A Freak accident out of nowhere. Usually they land those sideways jumps. Lucky not to hit any trees.
Many are saying, and it can be seen, that the car does not start its sideways sliding for which you'd require the wheels spinning at high speed. Ott does throttle for slide here (watching at 0.25x speed you can also hear him pushing it at the right moment) but the left side wheels seem to grip to the ground too much which prevents it to smooth out the landing and instead it keeps it on the rails as if a train would move - this makes the car continue sideways rolling (from the inertia) instead of sliding on 4 wheels. So, some say the differentials did not share power correctly to the wheels at that point. Maybe they did test some new parts on the car at this event, not sure.
left front wheel powering the front of the car away to the left (in Ott's perspective), and the rear is light at the touch-down and so no happy tail in the correct direction? The more I look at it, the more it seems, it's just the matter of too much speed for that corner with the jump in front of it. It makes it land too much on the left side, with no slide possible, and hard to correct it afterwards.
@@AKR088 On the other hand the jump seems to have made the front left of the car almost, if not actually, touch the ground at landing - so the entire left side of the car has much more grip and maybe completely digging it itself into ground because of the landing at one side heavily - this seems to ruin the otherwise required sideways slide with the rear and so the car starts to roll - Ott drives the car against the roll, accelerating quickly outwards while the rear is light and moves in the opposite direction. Standing on one side while accelerating somehow seems to completely ruin the sideways slide that is needed there. Weird indeed. I guess even if the diff was perfect, its not easy to share power correctly to wheels in that scenario. Has Ott commented, anywhere, what he thinks happened there?
@@musaire he is on full throttle, but car does not accelerate, because diff messed up. Tires not spinning and has has too much grip when tires touched the ground. He needs wheels spinning at full speed so landing success, but wheels not doing that. Zero comments, thats another reason why its mech issue, he does not want or not allowed to comment yet.
@@AKR088 Ahh, yes, too much grip can be seen, it does not start to slide but goes like a train on that left side on its track. But is it in high enough gear... I imagine only high enough gear could achieve the slide-producing spinning of the wheels. I guess the power is shared away, incorrectly, to the wheels that are still in the air at the right side of the car, am I correct, so the issue is not central differential but likely more of the front and rear diff? Anyway, just trying to make sense.

This is the weirdest crash I've seen in a long, long time.
A sudden roblox physics
Looks like a bug in a rally game physics engine except that this is not a rally game 😮
Adrien Fourmaux at Monte-Carlo 2022…Latvala at Portugal 2009 and 2014…two big crashs.

Finally a proper video of it! Thanks
I have never seen a car slide floor first along the road. Imagine how insane this must ve felt for Ott and Martin.
That was crazy, so lucky not to hit the trees.
Fr thank god it didnt roll over on the landing
What a crash! Glad they're okay..
Crew is OK
Hea kaameratöö!
Wow! That was so damn scary. Great footage 🔥
What a strange crash...I don't see any driver errors there, this was just misfortune, I'd say.
Glad they're both okay after this one.
Definitely bad luck but these kind of crashes don't happen without driver error (unless the car itself breaks and causes the crash). There is an error but isn't a big one.
Im guessing that the apex before the jump had a bump/positive camber and might've thrown the balance off (only a guess i dont know this Stage)
But it really doesnt even look like it
Terrible misfortune, the Universe is conspiring against Tanak this season 😳
Glad both are okay! ❤ If you watch it 0.25 speed, you'll see how all the parts flying off and how long they actually slided door on ground 😮😢

good eye. there was something wrong with the suspension indeed
What a slide on the door though... Looked a rough one for sure
It's like Mikko's crash in Finland 2010.
Glad they're both OK.
god bless to Ott ja Järveoja. i heard they are okay
Scandinavians will probably remember the great "too fast drivers" video tapes from the 90:s and 00:s, this is like something straight out of those.
This is incredible, thanks God he is alive!! If I will credit you with direct link in description and without cut your logo, can I please use it in my next crazy rally?
I promise
he means that he allows it, its just a weird translation
Thanks 🙂
As long as their hands didn't leave the rollcage, they're alright, barrelrolling is pretty safe nowadays.
I have never seen anything like it before, what a odd slide too!
Now that's well shot, I was just ahead on the jump myself so I only got the beginning.

this was ERC, not WRC.

dangerous stuff flopping around like that, with all those tree stumps laying around.
It looks unreal
Looks like mechanical diff issue, left rear wheel not working so it could create more slip, not grip like happened here
Le Fourmaux estonien…😅Sacré cascade ! Hollywood veut pas lui signer un contrat ?
Excuse me, you can't park there.
Ok superčuper
