Great video! Certainly is an interesting setup! I remember being at this crossing in 2015 when the gate mech at 6:19 malfunctioned and failed to rise. This meant the signals didn’t deactivate with traffic lights staying red, caused traffic chaos! Ended up calling Adelaide Metro.
Thanks! I noticed that a couple of the gate mechs struggle to fully rise, they only just make it. The one that you saw malfunction is actually the fastest to rise.
@@McKHAust that's how I found them but even when I was younger and I used to go past the crossing to the small boat club on Garden Island they were still like that :D
Great video! This crossing is rather odd, it’s partially grade separated, and the mixture of equipment too (newer and older GRS Gate Mechs). That dead Older Safetran Type 3 will probably be left there since it’s hard to tell that it’s dead at first, so the other bells are loud enough. Maybe a new WCH bell is on the horizon? Fun fact: the Torrens Rd Crossing which is getting grade separated had WCH e bells from street view, then they got replaced by Safetran Type 3s...... By the way I’m premiering my Alawoona Avenue Crossing video tonight with WCH Incandescents.
Thanks! it would be cool if the dead Safetran type 3 was replaced by a WCH e-bell, it would make a nice bell combination. I never knew that Torrens Rd had WCH e-bells, they must have been short lived? Looking forward to you Alawoona Ave video :)
McK&H Aust I think WCH e bells were the early choice of e bells for Adelaide Metro to use since I saw Main Rd Glenalta had them in 2008 on street view too.
@@redhen334 I liked the old signals at Main Rd, Glenalta how the gate mechs were mounted on short masts, it's a shame the crossing was upgraded. Will be interesting to see what happens at Torrens Rd, if they wait for the grade separation to be done before installing the electrification. Otherwise if they do the electrification first then all of the new overhead wiring will need to be ripped out again.
There's a crossing near where I live that's in the middle of an intersection, and the parking lot of a model train store! (They now host a webcam on RUclips) But this is the first time I've seen one with an overpass for one road on top (I wouldn't be surprised if they did Cross Road and bypass the crossing) I also noticed there aren't any "2 Tracks" signs for the roads despite the fact that there are two active tracks
Thanks! This is also the only crossing I've seen with pedestrian signals on the crossing poles, there isn't really any room left on the pole for anything else lol.
What an intresting intersection!!! Great video. Is this the first time you have got the second train warning on film?? Collins Ave, Linden in Wellington NZ use to have Roshni sounders just like these for the second train warning but had the alarms replaced.
Nice video! My gawd what a messy intersection haha. I'm having trouble trying to orientate myself with this huge damn crossing. I bet you had a lot of fun filming it! Oh and btw what sort of camera do you use? The quality is just amazing. I might need an upgrade soon lol
Thank you! The crossing was fun to film, it was like filming 4 different crossings at the same place. If you pretend the bridge isn't there it's a little easier to understand lol. My camera is a Panasonic HC-VX1, it's a year old so there's probably a newer model by now.
Yes, although the line would need to be closed for the duration which would be at least 12 months. Plus they would have to close most of the road which would cause serious congestion.
I reckon those close of the bridge and knock it down and have a rail bridge going over the road and then where the bridge used to be it can be extra road.
Yes there is a plaque on the bridge saying 1985, I forgot to photograph it but you can see it in the video done by Redhen Railcar SAR ruclips.net/video/uQSi9UhII7A/видео.html
Great video! Very odd crossing but interesting equipment!
Thanks!

Perhaps the gate mech I saw malfunction received some maintenance after failing?
@@trainman758 most likely, now they just need to attend to the other 3 mechs.
Nice catch! Interesting crossing setup.
Thanks!
Awesome crossing! I believe there are crossings in Port Adelaide that have WA-style square lights!
@James Michael Harding I believe that there is one in Port Adelaide along Eastern Pde that has the same style of lights
Thanks! Yes there are some WA style lights around Port Adelaide, you can see them on street view.

Nice, keep up your awesome work!👍🏻
Thanks!
Great video and crossing!
Thanks!
6:08 the behind-the-scenes of those red LEDs; white lines at the back to indicate they are on!
Yes they seem more common outside NSW

Awesome video McK&H Aust :)

Great video. Cold and odd crossing.
Thanks!
Very nice!
Thank you!
Interesting seeing some crossbucks here. It's interesting seeing some of the same equipment that's used here in the US.
Australia has been using US equipment for a very long time, as far back as wigwags.

The tops of the signal masts look strange. Never seen that style of pinnacle before.
They're actually not pinnacles but junction boxes for the traffic signal cables.
Nice video, this crossing is dangerous and very busy, it needs to be grade separated.
Thanks! It would be difficult to grade separate the crossing because of the overpass being in the way.
They would have to have the line go under the road.

Still needs to be grade separated though
