I hate how the 2019 version treats Jo and Friedrich’s relationship as meaningless. The book gives such depth to their relationship and you feel how special it is. She doesn’t settle for him at all. She WANTS him. And he loves her just as she is and will never try to change her. She can be with him and still be herself; that’s the point of the ending. She had to find a guy who wouldn’t try to mold her into a housewife and instead would cultivate her true self. That’s Friedrich, not Laurie, who always wanted and needed someone more like Amy. This version honors that perfectly; Winona Ryder and Gabriel Byrne really sell it.

this!!! my biggest gripe with the 2019 movie (though i think jo's speech about being lonely was amazing and so heartbreaking) is what they did to this relationship. the ending felt so rushed, part of what makes this moment so beautiful are the beats, where they truly see each other.

When Jo tells Frederich not to go so far away, I think she’s trying to tell him she loves him and she’s never wanted to be with anyone as she wants to be with him. When they kiss, you can tell that they love each other and someday, they’ll get married💕

The music are so upliftling.. the cast... the setting... costume... manner... screenplay... editing... cinematography.... the flow.... you name it... BRILLIANT MOVIE! I've always thought Winona was robbed, she delivered the complexity of Jo in great aplomb and she even don a non-glamorous hairstyle for the entirety of the movie. Most actresses don't want to look like that....
