  • in this video, I experiment with reverse electroplating to see if it can be done with sodium bisulfate, instead of the typical sulfuric acid. sulfuric acid can be difficult to get hold of in some countries, so I thought I would try a new method.

Basically every electrolyte can be used to dissolve the gold into solution. The difficulty is getting the gold from small parts that are not worth putting on a wire

I see some using saltwater. Haven't tried it yet but think I will when ready.

Copper sulphate is another option for electrolyte. I'd imagine you'd get somewhat faster results

Can this be used for Glass or porcelain plated objects?

Probably not. It would be very difficult to maintain an electrical connection. A leaching solution would probably be better iodine can leach gold plating. 👍

The first tip I will give is before jumping straight in, do some reading and research. Check out the gold refining forum on the Internet and just read some comments. There will be people on there who have made mistakes when starting out, and there's some good advice for the problems they came across

Once you have researched, do small test batches to get comfortable with the reactions.
