    Sulfuric acid protonates the hydroxide groups on the sucrose molecules, creating a positively charged water group which is an excellent leaving group. As the hydroxide is protonated, an Oxygen-Hydrogen bond is formed, and the formation of this bond has a negative enthalpy value, meaning the reaction is exothermic and gives off heat.

    Could that carbon be burned as a fuel source?

    • @meltingzero3853
      @meltingzero3853 2 года назад

      I really don't see why not. Even if not all of the sulfur dioxide and water exited the carbon, they shouldn't prohibit it from burning like regular coal. Not that it is an economic way to make fuel, though.

    Is this safe in a classroom setting? Given that it's a designated laboratory where gloves, aprons, and goggles are available. Will the smoke cause damage when breathed in? Because in the class, we use "dangerous" substances, like hydrochloric acid (diluted to only 1 molar) and others that cause harm upon ingestion/skin contact but not when breathed in. Will the gas from the reaction be unsafe to breathe? Thanks.

    Hello there, I have a few questions:
    1. If you got carbon as a product, how could you also get sulfur-dioxide? (C12H22O11+11H2SO4->12C+11H20+water-acid mixture)
    2. How can we know when we get carbon and when carbon-dioxide?
    3. What would happen if you had used non-concentrated sulfuric acid?
