The police do do stuff, and it mostly works, but there is always fresh people coming to the island because the tourists are relaxed, and the elderly are easy pickings.

They were walking behind me, and as I stopped to look, they pretended to do something else. Then when I confronted them, they split up and walked away in different directions.
