- Опубликовано: 1 авг 2016
- The New Troubles (2011): When the Good Friday Agreement was signed 13 years ago, there were finally hopes for peace after years of violence. But a new upsurge in violence has many worried about the return of hard-core nationalism.

Northern Ireland had been relatively calm since the Good Friday Agreement gave the Irish republican movement a share of power. But a new generation of Irish Republicans are emerging, who feel they've been sold out by the IRA and Sinn Fein's involvement in the peace agreement. There's been a recent surge in sectarian attacks, especially on the streets of Belfast, where barbed wire barricades still divide the two communities. "They really don't know what to do about it because Sinn Fein can't do anything other than say 'do as we say not as we did'", says Robin Wilson, a writer. The police service is now on high alert for more killings as new recruits take up the dissident cause. "These young lads have never been through it before, they carry more guts, they'll do whatever they have to do", says Thomas Campbell a long time resident of the nationalist district, Ardoyne. For Dr Martyn Frampton, a terrorist specialist, the future looks increasingly uncertain: "dissidents seem to have the capacity and a drive to operate, to carry out acts of serious violence which I don't anticipate to diminish seriously in the immediate future."

poor people fighting poor people for the benefit of banks
Guys, the island of Ireland is called Ireland for a reason
what your seen is N.ireland bellend !!
Colin Gears He's talking about the island of it including ROI and NI
N.I is its slave name
Thomas The Dank Engine umm then why is it part of the BRITISH ISLES
@@Lukas-kg5sd because the British government are robbin basterds and it shouldn't be part of the British Isles because its not Britain. Look at the map.
"The World is a Dangerous Place to Live; Not Because of the people who are EVIL, but Because of the People Who Don't Do Anything About It" Albert Einstein
A defeated catholic king not all catholics
Surely both sides should be referred to as loyalist and republican instead of Protestant and Catholic? As a Protestant I don't identify as a loyalist and certainly do not associate myself with republicanism. I'm not the only one to share this opinion either.
True not all Prods are ground pounding loyalists. and neither are all Catholics Republicans as evidenced by the fact half of em are pro Union. Excellent point cheers.
amyhuk Other way around to lad,Buy don't mention that because your a unionist
Half more like 2 % sorry but vast majority now support unifaction now ROI economically better off then the UK.
But do you support a United ireland
Robert Kelly - I totally agree with you! sort of, I'm a unionist. if there is a united ireland it will be for a short while. The ROI will attempt and try to sustain another country. they will fail. there economy is ok. it's not great, no where near it. Now, put another country on top of that. what happens? the economy will fall. our country will fall! Do you want that to happen?!? Eventually people will realise were better off in the UK!
Of course the unionist were shown as innocent people...pure joke
Domasticus Live yeah this documentary is very biased against Catholics
Domasticus Live- Well most big films shows the Republican side in a sympathetic light!
Centrist Philosopher that's because the Irish had there rights trampled on while unionists and tories sit in there big houses stoking up tensions by lying to Protestants.
Never the fucking unionists is it...... Fuckers are in the big seat now
Majority of loyalists did not support the terrorists unlike the Roman Catholic nationalist republicans and their support for the IRA who had a shot to kill policy they never toke prisoners alive except to torture and murder later.. That is why the DUP are now the biggest party with an increase in MPs The DUP like the Orange order never supported murder. The uda politicans cant get enough support to put anyone in the Commons.
I'm from Ireland and most of my ansetars fought in the war of independence

*LONDONDERRY, its known the world over as that you lame butthurt douche.
Frank White Official by who's standard you fucking simpleton.
Logic dictates for there to be a "Londonderry" the must first be a "Derry".
Christ you haven't got the family brain cell today have you?
TheAwillz Call it whatever you like then bitch it doesn't matter because its proper official worldwide recognized name is LONDONDERRY, cry some more its funny
Frank White 😂you can't argue with my logic though can you?
1-0 me
if your not from about here then why comment?
Looking at some of the Belfast Murals, I found it easy not to take sides, which is good as it's not my place. Then I saw a Unionist mural glorifying the CSA - the Confederacy during the American Civil War. I wont interfere in Irish affairs but I can't abide any group that glorifies the Confederacy. It shows a complete lack of comprehension of the History involved. I know more Americans who would throw their lot in with the Republicans, and seeing that mural, I could totally understand why. If they view their own history as they view ours, then they must be confused.
As an interesting aside, many of those who settled the south were Ulster Scots from Belfast. The "Scots-Irish" demographic that many CSA sympathizers seem to proudly claim.
At 10 minutes the University professor nails it on the head. The flag over the country has no bearing on enclaves of Northern Ireland, which are no different to the same enclaves in Great Britain, Ireland, Europe or the World. There will always be a section of every community who feel that they do not have opportunities and often do not take advantage of the educational opportunities that are available to better themselves. They then blame everyone else for their disenfranchisement. The education system in Northern Ireland is among the best in the world. The employment opportunities for those that take advantage of that are huge. Those that chose instead to shun education, hang around on street corners and develop the 'it's not fair on us' attitude to life cannot say they were not offered a chance of a great education, university place and excellent wage at the end of it. Ultimately, they are where they are because they made a choice to not take advantage of the opportunity.
indeed.
N.I not a sucess but secterian mess and a failure a liablity to the English.
The problem with Irish thought on this is lack of political imagination. I believe I have an idea which could offer a solution. So far there have only been two irreconcilable positions. A completely unified Ireland (with a resentful Protestant minority) or continuation of the status quo in Northern Ireland (with a resentful Catholic minority). But what if Ireland became a confederation of its five historical Gaelic kingdoms, each one having its own semi-autonomous parliament (rather like Canada)? What could be more Irish? Ulster would then assume its historical size taking in a county or two that are now in the Republic. Ulster (with its ancient Gaelic identity) would then be more demographically balanced between the two religious communities but its parliament would have a high degree of autonomy and could even have a native Earl acting as a constitutional bridge between its historically Gaelic populations and the British crown (satisfying the Protestants) while Irish Catholics (and Protestants) in Ulster could enjoy some form of federal representation in Dublin. Both communities could find satisfaction in a more politically "organic" arrangement that could be the lynchpin of future co-operation between Ireland and the UK. There are no other workable solutions.
Just asked me west Belfast dad "who's jerry Adams?" Response "a fucking traitor"
There is something that Northern Ireland and Wales have in common. Ahem, THE QUEEN NEVER COMES AND TREATS US 2 COUNTRYS LIKE WE ARE NOT THERE! Yes to Welsh and northern Irish independence!
i would say no not over, we just dont see it in the news any more.
That throw at 0:21
I doubt this conflict i's about a religion,it's about british colonists occupying
The level of violence has increased a prison officer was blown up by a car bomb in 2016
remember when Brixton had a riot = they stole shoes
But they are living in an occupied state. Britain is occupying the north of Ireland.
I don't give a fuck, if there is ever a united ireland I'll still be flying my Ulster flag and Union Jack outside my house! NO SURRENDER🇬🇧
sam crawford You should really take down your flag at night it's disrespectful if you don't
Wistful Asmr i couldn't give a fuck
Wistful Asmr I keep my flags up all the time now so it won't ever change
For someone who really loves their flag they don't know the etiquette behind it....
My dad was brought up fighting for the Catholics and the R.I.R.A and I agree with the. United Ireland and I even still see the conflict in Belfast
Anyone else notice a clip of an Israeli bombing @ 7:18?
support either side but the choice of northern Ireland's nationhood should be up to the citizens of that area. it's odd how Irish and British both feel they can dispute it. it's not up to either of them.
Nice to see ya colly in amongst that group of dissident republicans at ardoyne shop fronts.didnt you get on well with loyalist prisoners in magilligan? true saying a leopard never changes its spots.
13:13 bloke gets Ko'd by the water cannon xD
That's what I thought and then his mates go in and pick him up, then drop him and run away!

why can't we all live in peace paul p England I lived in Ireland for 10 years all o k 👍
Depressing to see this shit continues.
There,s more trouble and shootings in England than Ireland today , so yes the troubles are over.I know as I served in the seventies over there and this is a walk in the park compared to then.
For any Protestants or Unionists that see this: Please do not think that all Catholic/Republic Nationalists are like this.
I come from a mixed background and have no problems with each side but I do have problems with those who refuse to move forward they are uneducated in both backgrounds as if they where they would understand that at the time both sides had their reasons but at this point these is no sense in these action
TouchMyRAM I know lad this had gone too long
Someone with a good heart and a clear eye on the prize. I salute you *crisply salutes Lee Reilly*
amyhuk good lad 👍🏻
100% right Lee.
Not changed much have they? The people who uphold and respect the rule of law go home and sleep easy in their beds. The people who try to destry things are still running away but have not yet learned that the only thing to run from is their evil communities. Still dirt breeds dirt if those involved are too afraid of embracing the future for what it is allow their children to grow up into the ways of evil.
He summed it up in his first statement..
It's not over until shank hill road is up in fire
I recommend holidays in Ireland the guys all look like they wouldn't know a comb from a rake but the women are gorgeous and the booze is really good especially the whiskey
There are so many parallels between Black people in America, and Catholics in Northern Ireland. The poverty, the racism, etc.
There's many, many, similarities. IRA and the panthers had a lot of contact.
It's why I, as a Black man, sympathize with the IRA. They're portrayed as a terrorist group, but anyone who even remotely knows Irish history will tell you that they're freedom fighters.
gchijioke12 The respect is mutual. Our civil rights movement was inspired by yours. That's why you'll see murals dedicated to people like Fredrick Douglass and places like Mandela Hall in Irish areas in Belfast.
Yea, watching documentaries, I've seen all of that. I love the solidarity, and it should be mutual. People want to divide Africans and Irish people, but we have a somewhat common history of slavery and oppression at the hands of the West.
gchijioke12 We don't know what the fuck is wrong with Irish Americans because we're definitely on your side in Ireland. We got the idea of our civil rights movement from yours. Big inspiration.
If this wee lad was tryna stay neutral then he woulda said derry/Londonderry which is the "politically correct" term
13:14 - Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha - Water Cannon TO THA FACE!!!!!
13:22- Catholics leave their wounded friend behind.
pissed myself laughing lol 😂
Not a very loyal lot are they? No Surrender.
em don't think so.did u look at 13.48.
Eire saoirse either way the cowards are still running
when u realise that basically all of that fotage at the start is in ardoyne a heavily republican are is were i live and it is nothing like that
I hope I get to see a united Ireland in my lifetime. But there's better ways than terrorism to get your point across.
isn't it funny when christans talk about muslims sunni vs shia thing when they have this shit going on in their own country ?
To be a republican is to be a dissadent Shame Fein have no right to call these young republicans dissenters. Ironic 💚🇮🇪
Why would wanting to create a republic make you a dissident
These people are in love with marches and parades.
He's a bit out of date on Brixton !!
IT'S ALWAYS OUR FAULT ISN'T IT. THIS ISN'T WAR ANYMORE THIS IS A FULL ON JOKE
Unite ireland
13:14........knocked the fuck out ha
Both sides are just pathetic the money used to clean up the violence could be used on other things to improve the country
Ireland will never improve where ever a butchers apron hangs
Like a PIZZA PARTY!!!!

I hate socialism, but support independence. I support the tri-color. British flag doesn't belong on the island of ireland.
rollie4 yes, so true
I am with you most of the way Rollie4 but the decision to stay in or leave the UK needs to be made by the majority of the people living in NI.

They are just drug dealers now like the rest of them.
Many Loyalists would admit that the British have made many horrendous mistakes in the past, not just in Ireland but the rest of the world also, critical thinking is Patriotic, it's not always a case of blind Loyalty from Unionists

respect to the IRA for their nationalism unite ireland under one flag fuck religion the KLA respects your war against imperialism
you obviously don't know what occupation is or imperialism. The occupied stolen six counties of Ireland is a gerrymandered false majority of planters, but thankfully in the near future Ireland will be United.
***** no it will be by a border referendum in around 2024.
the Republicans IN the ROI don't want Unification any more then the Unionists in the North. the ONLY people who want a United Island of Ireland is a small minority of Republicans who live in NI. It is the Republicans who are trying to conquer land that doesn't belong to them making them the Imperialist colonizers.
amyhuk Go back to sleep americano.
