    I LOVE that you mentioned that clothing looking worn and having imperfections is normal. I have avoided wearing my nicer items so they don't get "ruined." So I really appreciated you saying that!

    It's amazing how you condensed in this video a lot of valuable wisdom and insights about style that normally take a person years to find out and maybe not really have these things figured out. I like your relaxed approach to style, in that things don't need to be perfect, because clothes are an investment for one's enjoyment and not to hang in a closet to prevent wear, and also I love the idea of seeing the potential in a piece and wear it in an unintended way. I could go on and on, you share a lot of stuff I wish my younger self had known. We are lucky that nowadays so many opposite styles can be mixed in one outfit, this was not always possible, but there are rules to make it work and you explain that delicate balance very well! 👏💖

      So kind of you to take the time out to leave me this lovely message! Always my pleasure to learn more about style and share it here. Not everyone might have the time to really analyse/experiment as much as me, so I always hope these will be a nice condensed video to help :) I'm also so glad that mixing styles is possible now and easier to do with all the content ideas around. Have a lovely week ahead x

    Great ideas. I love silk scarves and statement jackets (blazers, especially checks/plaids, suede motos and many others) to change up my outfits. I only put things that are freshly laundered and ironed back into my closets, or otherwise appropriately freshened and prepped for wear, like blazers that I’ve steamed, aired and brushed. I hang gently worn items separately, so I don’t risk putting anything not-fresh and ready to wear back in. Even briefly worn garments make a closet smell musty, and unnoticed, nearly invisible stains, like from liquids, get permanently set. Steaming silk, wool and cashmere items before putting them back greatly reduces the chance of moth damage and removes light odors. I do launder these at the end of the season, before putting them into summer storage, also.

    • @DailyHelenJ
      @DailyHelenJ  2 года назад +3

      Thank you for the idea Kimberly! I always learn so much from you. I think what I might start doing is putting lightly worn things on a rail, and steaming it at the end of a week before putting things back.

    This is the first of your videos that I've seen, and wow! A lot of this is classic advice that dates back to the glamour of the 1940s, when women would get all the use and beauty they could out of every garment. As for modern oversized tops over feminine skirts, I tried this in the 1980s when it became popular, and I've been wearing it ever since! It suits almost everybody, from plus size to pear shaped. It's wonderful to see you wear colour and print too - so many fashion youtubers are still stuck in the plain beige everything type of minimalism. Congrats on a really well put together video. I've subscribed.

    I appreciate and love your addition of arrows and captions for outfits in this vid!! as a visual learner, I processed those outfit breakdowns faster than the voiceover. it was super helpful at identifying your styling process. not sure how much work this will add for you, but I think they would also be nice touches to include (when applicable) in the b-roll sections where you model your own style. another great inspo vid, helen!

    You've certainly shown such growth in the last year!! I also love to mix styles: mine are Scandi, edgy and feminine with a scattering of classic. It's the element of the unexpected that adds interest. It is instinctive to me, I don't think about it, but people always comment (positively haha!!).

  • @smaragdinepearl5439

    SO useful! Thank you :) The belt- and bra-tuck ideas were new to me - I can't wait for cold weather to roll around again so I can try that when wearing knitwear with silk skirts :). Rule of 3 is great as well, I apply that as a general tip for colour blocking too. Love most of all that you encourage an analytical approach to browsing so it's not just blind attraction (which has happened to me in the past). Blind attraction tempts me to buy something simply because it looks nice but to distinguish if we need to own it/if it works with the style we like and currently have takes effort and self control too!
    (Thanks always for also linking everything, timestamps and listing what you wear, it must take up so much time)

    An add on for the bra tuck - you can wear layers with this! Just wear your bra over your outermost layer before the sweater your tucking! So for example, if you are wearing a turtleneck sweater under a crewneck, just wear your bra over the turtleneck, and then you can tuck the crewneck into it!

    Great video! Love the explination of the rule of 3 but was wondering, where I live you take off all your outerwear (jackets, coats, shoes, bags etc) when you go inside and if you're going to be inside for most of the day, would you still count bags and shoes in that "rule of 3" or omit them and mostly look at the clothes as "the outfit"?
    Also, I wanted to ask you if you experienced any shinking with your & other stories checkered midi wrap dress? Am thinking of buying but scared of the 80% viscose and the washing instructions of 40 degrees since I don't want it to shrink... any thoughts on this?

    • @DailyHelenJ
      @DailyHelenJ  2 года назад +2

      I think most of the time at work/indoors, I would disregard my jacket if I know I won't be wearing it very long. So the rule of 3 would apply to the clothes I'll keep on such as jewellery, top, bottom, shoe (take out the bag as well as this will sit at the desk). If I'm going out, I'll always be holding my jacket etc, so in that case it would be included. I usually don't overthink this and only use it to fix outfits in the morning before I head out if I'm not happy with the look. Otherwise it gets a bit complex for my liking haha.
      With the dress, I wash it at 30 degrees, inside out, on delicate and no issues I've noticed with shrinking. I think if you're concerned, then handwashing would probably be the safest bet/otherwise finding a fabric alternative in this style. I think I've seen a wool alternative on their site x

    I love envisioning outfits with a piece before I bring it into my wardrobe. I have all of my clothes catalogued in the "YourCloset" mobile app, and I also use it to map out potential new pieces. It's also great to avoid impulse purchases, especially for duplicates, which can be an issue for me. I can look in the app and remind myself of what I already have and spot a duplicate before obtaining another.

    I don’t like to over wash my sweater and jeans too but now that we’re in the middle of the pandemic i feel so wrong not washing it and I feel like it’s too big of a risk because the virus can actually stay on surfaces. So I wash everything now after every wear. Probably it won’t work with coats and jackets but I live in Malaysia, it’s so hot so for now I don’t have to wear those. What is the function of cedar spray?

    • @DailyHelenJ
      @DailyHelenJ  2 года назад +1

      Oh that's 100% true, I am the same. Tend to wash clothes a lot more often right now. Cedar spray is meant to prevent moths due to the scent and keep clothes feeling fresh. Something simple I like to use in my wardrobe between washes.
