Ok glad someone said something! I was trying to figure out if it was actually her or a younger actress 😅 She does look a lot younger here, I just want to know the makeup department’s secrets
This might sound silly, but I'm impressed with costume department's attention to historical chronology in Hetty's gowns. This gorgeous dress is of the natural form popular in the late 1870s, and her later green dress is typical of the 1880s return to the bustle style
This is why I prefer US over UK. US looks like actual clothes, UK looks like Spirit Halloween (and Fanny just looks like she's wearing, like, doilies??)
@@-VoDkAsVengeance- That's a pretty funny criticism because out of all the UK Ghosts costumes Fanny's is definitely the one that looks like actual extant clothes. Early 20th century dresses really are that weird sometimes.

Fun lil fact about the ankle thing, it's a bit more complicated than people being scandalized by skin. Prostitutes did wear shorter dresses, but it wasn't to look sexy, it was to keep the dress clean. They often couldn't afford a lot of clothing or to launder it much, so it didn't make sense for them to wear long dresses that would get filthy any time it rained. So above the ankle dresses were associated with poverty first, and then prostitution, and that eventually warped into exposed ankles being seen as inherently inappropriate.
“In just a weeks time I’ll be able to read the results for myself in the paper!” Is such a wonderfully antiquated version of; “pics or it didn’t happen”
Imma be honest with you, without my glasses, I really thought they casted another actress to play a younger Hetty. I can't believe she's over 50 irl. I aspire to look as good as her when I'm older😭
It wasn’t 😅. The whole ‘not able to show your ankles’ thing is just a myth🤷🏻♀️. In reality, the hem length on a dress would change according to the time of day as well as what activity the woman would be doing when wearing it. During many of these activities and times, having your ankles visible was completely acceptable.
Well it wasn’t , the ankle thing is a complete myth in fact if this was the 1870s then this characters grandmother would have been walking around with her ankles on full display in the 1830a.
