I personally feel that this statement is a bit skewed. Your stand cant be based on the severity of the penalty. What sort of a stand would that be. What if the penalty is too harsh to bear .... should one back out then. Thats not what men of honour do.

I too was against him a few years ago, but as time passed by, my biases weakened and realization crept in, that he is doing all of it for the common man and for the rule of law. The common man does not have the financial capacity to climb the steps of the SC. Looking to the SC for justice is out of question for him. But the problem Is it also depends on who made the law. For eg criticising signboards of dogs and Indians not allowed during British Raj was also against the law. But was it wrong.

Yes, there are no two paths for right and wrong. He stands tall on teh shoulders of Socrates, Thoreau and Gandhiji--I will oppose the laws of an unjust state and I will gladly accept the punishment of the laws of that state because I live in it. The court gave two punishment--both are punishments--Re 1 or jail and barred from practice. Socrates drank hemlock as a result.
He spoke rightly about conscience... but again, i feel if a layman did this, he would have been probably silenced ( for good)... but he is surely a brave man..kudos!!

Also Afzal Guru's case was not only limited to him it was a very deep rooted RSS case if you remember Devinder Singh's name came from that incident in the lime light. This man Devinder has been granted bail recently by HC. Afzal guru's sentence was rushed to save many other culprits.

Very very underrated comment! This is what education means and this is what education should teach us to do. Education is not about earning degrees; it is about learning to question everyone and everything and developing basic critical thinking to see what is right and wrong for yourself based on actual facts instead of being manipulated and misled by biased and prejudiced views of others.

I had reacted somewhat strongly to your comments at the time, but now realise that you were right and I was wrong.

Just provide the poor with all they need to attain a proper education to qualify an examination of that level...even i am not of the upper tier i belong to the middle to middle lower tier but still that Obc guy easily got into a good college good stream at a lesser mark than many of the deserving general candidates...

Also Afzal Guru's case was not only limited to him it was a very deep rooted RSS case if you remember Devinder Singh's name came from that incident in the lime light. This man Devinder has been granted bail recently by HC. Afzal guru's sentence was rushed to save many other culprits.

I feel so pained to see people turning into zombies, though students are getting more mark may degrees but seriously loosing their thinking skills. And it is specifically very dangerous when we have more youth population .
