Ike, by a general rule of thumb, injectors get constant voltage from ignition source however the trigger is via ground (meaning the ground is what is pulsed) if u put your test like clip on the POS batt post and probe the other wire on the injector you will see your pulse. That pulse comes from a cam position sensor of some sort on the engine.

    • @TDG2654
      @TDG2654 Год назад +2

It doesn't matter whether you connect the testlight to battery positive or negative, it behaves the same.
The way Ike had it connected the testlight lights up while the injector is off (positive power is supplied through the injector) and should turn off when the injector is on (ecu side of the injector is pulled to ground so there's no voltage difference across the testlight anymore).
Connecting the light to battery positive just inverses it (light is off when the injector is off and on when the injector is on).
My guess for the actual reason that it didn't work is because it's an incandescent based testlight, which just isn't fast enough for the short pulses the ecu uses at low load.

This project reminds me of one my buddy was working on about 20 years ago. We were going to stuff my spare Kawasaki KZ650 motor in a home built project he bought. It was heavier built than this one, with a Beetle front suspension and independent rear sprung with 2 sets of motorcycle forks mounted over the rear axles. If he still had it, I know I could get it up and running! (My skill level has risen exponentially since then, having worked in 2 auto body shops, and of course, watching you guys!)

love these kinds of builds. brings back memories from high school where we used to just put any random running engine on basicly anything we want. just one thing id like to point out that you may want consider is to relocate the radiator. where its located right now and how hot that water temp can potentially reach id be very scared if one of those lines blow that it will dump scolding hot anti freeze right onto the driver.

I'm hoping they build a all new Rear Engine Sand Dragster with a huge sprocket on a very robust axle (thick with 4 bearings) with paddle tires and just one chain. It would be fun to throttle up in wet sand and have it lift you up as it dug in and hauled ass. Quick easy gear changes by replacing the front (engine) sprocket. No jackshaft, no belt, real o-ring chain, dump the clutch and rip.

I am SO EXCITED for this project. I own a 1999 Triumph Speed Triple 955 and its a handful. Your engine looks like a slightly later Sprint 955 model. The SAGEM FI system can be temperamental but works great when everything is setup correctly. There is a free software called TuneECU which you can use to connect with a phone or computer and read trouble codes, test operation, change the engine mapping, and make adjustments.

Looking back on that, I was such an idiot for convincing myself to build that.

The reason Ike’s test light wasn’t working is because the computer dosent send 12v to the injectors, they get constant 12v. The computer uses Pulse Width Modulation - and pulses a ground to the injector rather than a 12v source. This thing looks awesome guys.

  • @musicauthority7828

Those injectors work on a contestant power circuit. with ground completing the circuit. requiring testing on the ground side of the injectors. or on a millivolt circuit. you would have to have a tester that would be compatible with a millivolt circuit. I would leave the configuration of the kart the way it is. it's already got slick's on it, you would just have to add some wheelie bars and would have an AWESOME wheel stander. although some of janky stuff would have to be taken care of for sure. that's still a really good score on that kart. depending on what you paid for it because it has some really good parts on it.

Always Have watched you guys since y’all started the channel not missed a single episode but that’s pretty low putting down the 16 year old that built that I’m gonna be honest it wasn’t done as we all could tell I’m pretty sure y’all ran like 45 on a mower that still had stock steering hell I’m proud of what the kid did I’d hop on it in a heart beat when he got it done and let him take me for a rip
I’m 30 and have a welder and a shop and some knowledge and I don’t think I could get half the stuff right the kid got right if that 16 year old is watching thumbs up brother u did a hell of a job

I have the carbed predecessor to this engine in my Paris Dakar replica. Love me a Triumph triple. Just something intangibly satisfying to the note and the ride.

Alot of torque there! Good motor for a 4 wheel drive.

Awesome find! The engine sounds very good.
The oil looked clean, so hopefully no surprises. I think it may have just been aerated from overfilling and the engine being inclined. 🤞🏻.
I definitely wouldn’t run it too much before confirming the oil pump pick-up is submerged, and not sucking air.
Keep up the great vids, and I can’t wait to see more of it!

Love the idea of Sand drag rail. When you first said sand rail I thought you was talking like a vw dune buggy which we here in Michigan call also Sand Rails. Lol

I'm amazed because the horsepower math from John was spot on, i had a calculator right next to me so i checked to see how close and 6.5 times 20 is 130. That was impressive, my head doesn't work that well most of the time. And of course you're gonna get comments on the small package, how can the guys not say anything

GOOD LUCK!!!! Those Triumph electrical systems are JUNK! As a matter of fact, I've got a complete Daytona 955i that you can HAVE for $200 , just to get it out of my way! I'm located in Pitt County, not far from you. It's a complete bike, fairings and all. I'll even throw in an extra ECM and wiring harness!
I got tired of messing with the British "common ground" wiring system.

Looks like a fun and sketchy project... Perfect! You know what that means, it's right at home! LOL! It sounds good, I'm anxious to see what all you guys do with this one. That engine would be great for the drag rail, that would really be fun! But a sand dragster sounds pretty cool too! Best of luck with it! Thanks for another cool video guys! And as always, be safe!

I'm thinking this would be the motor for the drag rail. It would be even better if you made a new frame for a rear engine rail. The final drive would be so much easier. That engine was born to BOOGIE!

Me & my buddies watch a lot of your all's videos. And we think we got something that would maybe be a fun interesting video for you all to do...Laser Tag Go Karting! Get some laser tag vest & guns at Walmart or somewhere. Each gun & vest is less than $35 there. Then when you get them, mount the vests on the back of each go kart & extend the wire to the gun & you have to shoot while you drive on the track but it should be the late evening or night time to do it this way you can see them light up better. Do it for say 10 -20 minutes & whoever has the most points wins.
    OR
Same concept but instead of points to win its based on position to win. So when you get shot & your gun deactivates, you have to stop or slow down until your gun lights back up then you can start going again. This in theory should make it closer of a race resulting in multiple lead changes & whoever is in the lead after say 10-20 laps wins
