#PermacultureQ&A Hi - if I am trying to restore and build up soil that spends about 6 months soggy on flat unsloped soil, what would the order of operations be? I'm hoping to build some tree guilds with fodder trees and some fruit mix, bring in some of my own homemade active compost, plant some trees, and cover with both cardboard and straw. The land is about 1 acre towards the back of my property. Thanks and God bless- get that baby girl a strawberry!
I have always heard carrots are companion plants to tomatoes. Is that true? Could the tomatoes go in the carrot bed? Also what kind of clover did you sow in the garden? Would any clover work?
yes they are companion plants so life is good, getting things to grow is something that you want instead of what mother nature allows to grow. They will be slower growing but they help each other with pest pressure, so you have 2 or more crops to yield fruit, has worked well in past years In my experience. God Bless from WYO.
I would assume it's true. I go based on occupying different layers. I use whatever clover I have available. Peaceful Valley is a good site to buy blends.
Ooh, my first response is… replant those tiny carrots you pulled, they’ll grow happily. Don’t you plant your garlic in the fall before the deep frosts? Maybe, you will at the end of fall this year since this is the first year into reclaiming the space there. Anyway… I know from experience how much Garlic likes to overwinter to get a head start on the growing season. I love the smell of marigolds but cannot stand the smell of weed/cannabis (which gives me at the least a sore throat to a full blown cold). I find they smell totally different.
About your Tractor Supply trees, mine are also not sprouting any leaves. Do you think they are dead? When do you think it will be reasonable to assume they're gone?

Is it too late to ant a cover crop? I used as much complost as possible. I did plant rye grass for cover and its been hard to deal with. What are chemtrails?
It's not too late but the season will dictate what cover crop you plant. Look up the documentary, What in the World are they Spraying. It should answer your questions.

Wanting to plant some grazing for chickens in the run.
#Permaculture Q&A I've seen intensive planting used before with mainly lettuces that can be grown with almost no spacing between them. Of course this comes at the cost of each individual plant's growth capacity, however does the extra quantity of plants make up for that? What would happen with unconventional, closely spaced tomatoes/melons/etc.? Would they be more susceptible to diseases and if not would they produce overall more or less than larger plants with greater spacing?
Plant low growing flowers especially for hummingbirds. Or use feeders for those birds. We never have a mosquito in our yard all summer until the birds migrate. We have so many hummingbirds people just stop on my doorstep and gaze with their mouths open. lol

Cicadas do almost all their eating underground while maturing. They feed off tree roots but don't harm the trees in doing so. They come out of the ground to mate. As mature insects, these adults die soon after mating. The male dies quicker and the female lays her eggs and then dies. They sip from small tree branches but no harm done to speak of. Birds will be fatter this year. lol
@@fewferfev That's good to know! I heard from somewhere that the females slice a little section into the young bark to lay the eggs and that can cause damage to young trees allowing disease to enter.

Please watch the video from after skool on why smart people belive stupid things, that gives a lot of answers on why we have so many wokies but also the counter group where I would put you in.
Let me get this straight, you watched a video on why smart people believe dumb things? And you believed what you watched? Just like the smart people believe what they are taught by people who teach what they have been taught? And it grinds your gears that there are people out here that watch and observe patterns and can formulate a different perspective than you were taught? Do you still wear a mask, even though that has been proven ineffective?
Loved the gardening content, but the chemtrail stuff really threw me off. I genuinely thought you were being satirical at first. There is no evidence to support their existence whatsoever. I share your distrust of the government and of course can see the ways in which we're being harmed: food deserts, forced labor, criminalizing homelessness, privatized healthcare, trying to whitewash history to make it seem like America has never done any wrong, neglecting infrastructure and transportation, relying solely on fossil fuels because of the money we've already invested in it even though it's killing the planet - the list goes on and on. So why focus on some random contrails in the sky instead of any of the provably real ways they're harming us? Hell, you'd be making more impactful, more informational statements by explaining why not to use commercial pesticides and all of those unnecessary chemicals they try to sell us in our gardens. I don't even disagree that planes have harmful emissions. Of course they do. But chemtrails are completely unsubstantiated and there are much more relevant things that could be discussed. Otherwise, loved the video. Love your garden. And LOVE all that clover. I'm in the process of convincing my partner's dad that his grass isn't doing him any favors, and that the clover that naturally pops up all around his yard is what's currently keeping the soil thriving. Fingers crossed he'll let me slowly replace the grass with clover entirely 🤞🏼 I hope this doesn't come across as too critical - I genuinely like this content and would like to see more. I just also hope to see our gardening and survival communities be able to discuss the tangible injustices we face. I think that is where we can bring in really productive conversations that could potentially lead to positive changes in our communities.

Won’t that be too much nitrogen
I put too much chicken poop in one of my beds and had beautiful tomato plants but they never made and tomatoes
She's only 5 months.
Okay. For new to gardening people I have to ask!!! If you are planting multiple stuff and even a cover plant(s), is there a method to mark your crop plant so you don't accidentally cut them all due to misidentification???
you rocked it! TU! Can you tell me what kind of clover you planted? I am doing some research on what kind is safe around livestock in case it spreads to my grazing area. thank you for your patience.
I'm not picky, I just use a blend of clover. As long as your animals have access to other forage, I wouldn't worry about bloat.
Your HAT is AWESOME
Thank you!
LOL the CGI from NASA I totally love you..... crack me up... but spitting the truth
Truth is truth 🤷🏽♂️
How do I get my hands on a comfrey plant.. thanks for sharing🎉
Doesn't try one bit has complete success. Must be nice!😂😂😂 I love the garden aid app it's to help you keep your garden organized.
#pimp #compostyourenemies
Planted my strawberries a week after yours hoping they start popping up soon!
😂 not even a little bit
Good video William!
Thanks man!
From dust they came and to the dust they shall return. Hopefully sooner than later I may add
In the wood chipper, feet first!
#kniferecommendation opinel no 8 pruning knife, billhook or mushroom knife.
Wow, people really love the Opinel! I've had tons of recommendations!
Great video!
Thank you so much!
I bought a bag of clover after watching this.
That's awesome!
Ok, chemtrails, chlorine dioxide...you listen to Mike Adams? I love him to pieces, think I'm going to like listening to you too. Just discovered you today, your compost videos. I've been composting for 35 years and only ever managed to produce big wet poopy ploppy balls, so looking forward to trying your tips. Thanks!!!
What gardening app do you use? Just found your channel.
Blessings ❤
Cool video
Neighbors must be planted a lot of marigolds....lol
😂 I need to get them on camera
Is that clover like the 3 leaf clover or something different? Maybe silly but I have an area in my yard that constantly grows the 3 leaf no matter how much i pull it mulch it etc. it always comes back. And Im just learning about cover crops. Thanks 😊
Ok I will subscribe to your channel, hope you do well, I like young people go to gardening.😊❤
Awesome submission! Thank you!
Carrots and onions combat each other’s enemies.
I actually nibbled at some. They already have a faint carrot flavor.
I'm hoping to harvest the garlic this fall.
I have tall raised beds and tons of mealy bugs any reason and how to control them?
About your Tractor Supply trees, mine are also not sprouting any leaves. Do you think they are dead? When do you think it will be reasonable to assume they're gone?
I would give it until summer. Mine are just now sprouting leaves.
#PermacultureQ&A; I'm cleaning up my dads 8 acres... I've found motor oil and random chemicals all over the place that he have leaked randomly around the property. Do you have suggestions on how to start cleansing the soil?????
I'll answer this in a video but you should either put down a ton of mulch or get some cover crops growing like sun hemp.
Please can you tell me where to buy fruit trees that won't cost $100 plus. I have been researching places that ship and they are all so very expensive. Thank you for what you are doing.
Look into buying rootstock and scions and grafting them yourself.
Do you just leave the clover there forever? Do you compost over top of it ? Could i do this in my small garden made out of raised beds and grow bags?
I'm going to keep it as long as I can. The summer heat will eventually kill it off.
@ThePermacultureConsultant I'm going for it, I'm also using your compost method. I put raised strawbery beds next to my kids swing.... only problem is I don't get many, cheers!
What issue is there with airplane condensation streaks? I’m not sure what that’s about. Thanks.
They are talking about chemtrails. You can look that word up in your search engine to see what is meant. It's not the same as airplane condensation.
A good documentary is "What in the World are they Spraying?"
Do you know how to turn high desert plains into a living permaculture, food space? If you do, I may need to hire you in a few months for a project in Southwest Colorado.
I absolutely do! I've installed a demonstration site in Taos, NM for Earthship Biotecture. Shoot me an email at thepermacultureconsultant@gmail.com
@@ThePermacultureConsultant Excellent. I'll get ahold of you before we're ready to start the Earth work, and we'll get you on it. 👍
What is that weed? Is it queen Anne's lace? I hate it in my beds bc I think my carrots germinated but its always that weed
This one is actually ragweed. It looks almost like carrot tops 😂
Do your clovers get burned out in the summer time? I’ve had success only in fall to spring but everything dies in summer heat here. Dallas Texas
I'm not sure yet. If it does, I'll reseed with cowpea and buckwheat.
@@ThePermacultureConsultant will wait for you update video. I've tried this a few years in front and back yard, HOA don't care. I got tons of compliments please bees love it. But I'm the summer it didn't have a chance and I didn't want to be watering. Not I have at natives and still have wildlife if not more. Do you know if any cover crops doing well in full shade? Wanting to plant some grazing for chickens in the run.
#Permaculture Q&A
I've seen intensive planting used before with mainly lettuces that can be grown with almost no spacing between them.
Great question! Thank you!
I have some clover living pathways. Would you let them flower and go to seed or should I weed whack them and let them regrow?
I would let them go to seed and reseed themselves.
I know there's a few different types of miracles do you know which one works best against pest?
Does one fertilize the new strawberries?
I never have. I think the clover is doing that for them
Thank you. What can you do about all the mosquitoes in mulch around plants? Thank you
Plant low growing flowers especially for hummingbirds. Or use feeders for those birds. We never have a mosquito in our yard all summer until the birds migrate. We have so many hummingbirds people just stop on my doorstep and gaze with their mouths open. lol
I would try to increase the drainage under the mulch with a broad fork. The soil biology shouldn't be allowing the mossy larvae to hatch.
I would love a scientific journal article that prove chem trails. Please educate me.
@Ni-dk7ni I've gone through a couple pages of Google patent platform. Some of these patents are expired, some are about dispersing clouds. Do you have a specific patent number?
@Ni-dk7ni I used the google platform to look at US Patents. There are several patents for Cloud seeding that have expired. There were several patents that were for dispersing clouds. Do you have a patent number for me to read through?
There's nothing I'm going to say that's going to convince you.
@ThePermacultureConsultant
Maybe not, but thank you for your content and knowledge.
Are you going to do anything to protect your young trees from cicadas?
Cicadas do almost all their eating underground while maturing. They feed off tree roots but don't harm the trees in doing so. They come out of the ground to mate. As mature insects, these adults die soon after mating. The male dies quicker and the female lays her eggs and then dies. They sip from small tree branches but no harm done to speak of. Birds will be fatter this year. lol
@@fewferfev That's good to know! I heard from somewhere that the females slice a little section into the young bark to lay the eggs and that can cause damage to young trees allowing disease to enter.
Not really
Thats ragweed all through your carrot garden
There's both. They look similar which threw me off at first.
@@ThePermacultureConsultant I let one go to seed and it has gone crazy, I've been pulling em this year and letting the amaranth and lambs quarter grow instead, they are just as bad if they go to seed so I chop and drop
What variety of cover clover did you use?
A bunch of varieties.
Maybe your phone kept shutting off bc you were trying to take pictures and video of the sun without a filter covering the lens. I didn't see one on your phone anyway
Who knows. I'm good at growing food 😂
Better than me. Just about all.my seedlings died this year. I'm trying to salvag what I can and start over. Better late than never. Keep on with your videos, they're a great helt to Many!
You may end up with thrips due to the clover. Look it up.
I'll spray them with a thick compost extract, if they show up.
I'm a big fan of your channel and also your dad's, but you know what really grinds my gears? How can you use science like microscopy of you soil and stuff and then don't acknowledge that there is no scientific evidence for chemtrails. I know it can be hard to get out of your information bubble, but please give it a try.
Soil microscopy is in its infant stages in comparison to geo engineering and cloud seeding.
chemtrails. Really.
Yeah, what's the problem?
CGI photo or videos 📹 🤔 🤣😂
You know I'm right 😂
Loved the gardening content, but the chemtrail stuff really threw me off.
Fingers crossed he'll let me slowly replace the grass with clover entirely 🤞🏼
I hope this doesn't come across as too critical - I genuinely like this content and would like to see more. I just also hope to see our gardening and survival communities be able to discuss the tangible injustices we face. I think that is where we can bring in really productive conversations that could potentially lead to positive changes in our communities.
Sure bud ;)
@sampedro9316 I don't follow - what part are you saying that to?
Re: knives.
Bjorn Bladeworks makes amazing custom knives, and with Hairborne Defenses, makes amazing functional and beautiful hair sticks.
