  • In this video, my daddy, Mark Harris, appears as a special guest to discuss the Western genre. We mostly talk about Louis L'Amour books, with (not so) brief segues into John Wayne movies, why I never got a horse growing up, and gun advice.

I enjoyed the John Wayne stories :) I may not be a fan of the western genre, but I did enjoy hearing your dad talk about Louis L'Amour. Thanks for sharing :)

Thank you for watching even though you’re not a western fan! I think my dad is entertaining on pretty much any subject.

I have read Hondo many years ago, but can't believe I haven't watched the movie! I want to read Down the Long Hills because of Big Red! Lol I enjoyed listening to Mr. Harris and his western savviness! 🤩 Great episode! Love the bond you and your parents have through reading. 🫶

A superb episode, Katie! Kudos to you and Mark!
I'm ashamed to say I've never read one Louis L'Amour book, but I'm going to go down a reading rabbit hole and get every single one y'all discussed. I'll be watching the movie El Dorado too. It must be terrific if you've watched it 100+ times!
Have either of you read The Berrybender Narratives by Larry McMurtry? It is one of my all-time favorite tetrologies and, for me, it stands above Lonesome Dove, Streets of Laredo, Dead Man's Walk, and Comanche Moon. An aside: The Berrybender Narratives has a super strong female protagonist.

I am so excited about your L'Amour reading rabbit hole! You are going to have so much fun! Please let me know how you like them, and El Dorado.
I have never read The Berrybender Narratives, and Daddy says he hasn't either. You have made me want to try it, though! Thanks for the recommendation!
