    Good point by TDKP regarding the amount of damages awarded compared to LHL case. My question is if someone like Soh Rui Yong insists on speaking out against someone because he feels is right. Then that is his perogative. But why should he seek crowdfunding to pay for damages that he incurred due to his own insistence? That I don't agree. There are much better causes to support than a rather "confident" runner that likes to speak his mind irregardless of consequences. You choose to fight it out in court, then you should pay the damages of your actions yourself

    • @skiller94
      @skiller94 2 года назад +2

      Agree with you mostly, but crowdfunding is also something he chose to do and there is no obligation from the public or anyone to help him. Hence, for whoever agrees with his stance, they are free to support him that way, I don't see any problem with that. It's true he should pay for the damages IF he is indeed guilty eventually (should the appeal fail), but he can still choose to raise funds in any way he deems fit uh.

    Rui Yong's point on tall poppy syndrome in sg is so on point! time and time again i've seen far too many netizens disparage public figures for nothing at all, just because they are more talented/richer/doing better in life. Loved this ep, both the guests were fantastic!

    • @jeromestavros

      Tall poppy syndrome? You obviously don't know the meaning of it. Isn't the pot calling the kettle black - Soh is the one suffering from tall poppy syndrome, not the netizens.

    Been watching a few podcast they were great!
    Just a thought, I don’t think you guys should simply side with rui Yong and speak badly about Ashley Liew just because rui Yong is your guest. Clearly, the judges have their qualifications and have their fair share of research before charging him for defamation.
    While he is your guest, I feel it’s best it keep a balanced side.
    Because you guys do not know what Ashley Liew is going through or has been through. Then perhaps if Ashley was your guest, would your arguments be different then?

    Went to read on the case and I will say it is such a long battle over Pride, along with Justice. Putting myself in both their shoes I would say both have some right and some wrong. Unfortunately, taking it to court is just a way to drag the issue and see who would win legally, treating like a medal to perhaps shut the other up for good. Which would just cause more trauma to both. The only way I see how this can turn out good is if they both just settle out of court , if they have the maturity, wisdom, calmness to do so together. On the side note I feel pocketing in the defamation 180K charge over this case doesn’t seem right. Maybe he can consider donating it out since it is after all crowded funded. This afterall for the act of fair play.

Laughed so much when Dan and John described their marathon experiences hahahahaha but anyway watching this made me like Rui Yong even more. He's so well-spoken and forthright and rational and smart and mature, and I don't see why people would consider him arrogant when he has every reason to be proud of his achievements and defend himself in the face of haters who try to play down his successes when he's just broken a national record. To Soh & Vanessa, I hope you do ever see this comment and it is just a personal 5cent advice.
    I have to acknowledge the accomplishment both of you had achieved through all the hard work over the years and I am proud of that. It is a known fact that with such great achievement, you will be on a public. And with enough experience, I believe everyone knows that once you are a public figure, you get both positive and negative comments. It might be wiser to take it as a pinch of salt in my personal opinion rather than just getting into a situation with "keyboard warriors" or "haters" who are NATO (no action talk only).
    & tbh, I was taken aback by the way Soh has talked about it. I understand that you have seriously accomplished something that one person can be proud of but being proud and arrogant is a thin invisible line. And the way it sounded from you and the way you presented it was more on arrogant than other. As I have said earlier, you are a public figure and it will be more ideal to keep a positive image.
    Overall, congrats to both of you and I am sincerely proud of it. Cheers
