    My 16 year old daughter has started watching Peterson videos. It's a joy to discuss these ideas with a young woman who is growing in strength and self-awareness. She is already reaching beyond her peers who are trapped in a far leftist nightmare because they are being influenced by social media, where they are force-fed a steady diet of hate and envy and neo-Marxist propaganda.

      It seems to me that the force feeding is applied postmodernism based in Foucault influences. Marxism deals with class awareness I believe. Today, that is purposely left out through endless brainwashing. Instead, people are banding together in groups to compete with other groups and overthrow reasoning. It’s heartening that your daughter seems to be about other things.

    Stephen Hicks is a Grade A thinker. I got his book "Explaining Postmodernism" two years ago and have read through it several times, and I find myself going back to it again and again. It is the definitive guidebook to navigating the cultural waters that are flooding our society today. I *strongly* recommend it!

      @David Chorak and everyone else is what? What is the goal? What should we all be doing?

    • @leevenable8628
      @leevenable8628 5 лет назад

      @David Chorak I get what you are saying but it sounds to me like a loose paganistic worldview. Duality is indeed unique to the intellect but what is the alternative. It appears to haunt Peterson on an existential level, but in a way I empathize with him. I'm mean what you've said is a cult click away from why not embrace death, we are all going to die anyway, let's just embrace the experience of life and not think too much about it. What future does that leave for offspring? We live in an intellectual world and to cut of the head of the snake would destroy us. A much better way to put it in my opinion is knowing how to tame the snake. Ego is useful, experience without thinking is useful, but essentially there is an implicit duality underneath the intellect that can only be seen by the intellect. And that is the choice between chaos and order. Is nature perfect by design only to be driven into chaos by the intellectual spirit?(pagan view) or is nature random and chaotic only to be put into order by the intellectual spirit? (Judeo-christian view)

    • @leevenable8628

      @David Chorak even your conclusion is the product of your own intellect that you did not have a a child. How do you reconcile your philosophy on the grounds that's we shouldn't have a pervasive worldview to guide society?

I consider myself extremely blessed to work in a professional job where I can exercise my talents and I attribute much of my accomplishments the last 2 years from listening to you. The comment that I want to make is how tremendously well you look now (physically) compared to about 3 years ago. I realize this is mostly attributed to your diet, but man you look good sir. Jumping between your lectures and older footage, it is almost fathomable that you are the same person.

    I noticed Jordan sometimes won't let his guests finish their thoughts and I am glad Stephen pushed back a bit so his ideas were allowed to be fully heard. This might be because of the lag in Skype or something else I don't know. Either way I enjoyed the talk and thank you Jordan for all that you do!

      Yes, that's a somewhat annoying component of otherwise excellent discussions that Jordan Peterson conducts here. I mean, he did "ate" one or two paragraphs of prof. Hicks by nervously changing the subject. It's a pet-peeve of mine to be able to listen to the entirety of someone's reply and question. It's much easier to follow. Unless the interlocutor is straying himself from the topic or endlessly digressing, etc. But, Stephen Hicks usually tries to give concise answers as opposed to talking through an endless stream of consciousness. Certain talking discipline is important in a proper discussion format.

      Unfortunately, it's something Dr. Peterson does. I've seen him do it on just about every context where there's interaction with others. The actual talking part of the dialog moves too slowly for his processing speed. It's not a big deal in most other contexts because, as listeners, we just want to know what he thinks... but it's the most troublesome when he's conducting the interviews. Still, the material tends to be priceless and that's what matters. Especially these days.

      Hopefully his wife has started to wear a hijab. Then, enclosed in her hijab, she can, in the name of women’s rights, proudly stand up and be a warrior against Trump’s War on Women and join millions of like-minded women in smashing the patriarchy, achieving freedom from male domination and oppression, fighting for gender-justice, and checking (based on skin tone) her white privilege. It’s simple common sense: the Muslim veil is the only way to find true women’s liberation and equality.
      Too many women accept the false equality, the faux liberation, the fake freedom of being able to wear the clothes they want, feel the sun on their face or show their hair in public, drive a car, vote, leave the house without a male relative, think independently of their husband/father, choose their own mate, keep their clitoris, and other destructive western practices. It’s time to put a stop to these illusions.

    • @leevenable8628
      @leevenable8628 5 лет назад

      @David Chorak so it's both, nature and spirit are one and we must face what life gives us as it presents itself. As we struggle we must struggle and until we accept our struggle we will suffer and if we curse our struggle we will suffer more. We do what we must as it has been laid out for us. Thinking just makes our struggle worse than it actually is and control is in the hands of nature itself and not men. Am I on the right track to understand what you are saying?

In other words, they fundamentally believe that knowledge is (to some degree) unreliable. At the extremes, they outright reject objectivity as a possibility for human beings - which has opened the door to all manner of relativism and subjectivism. The issue is that I seem to be able to find no one in my department willing to engage in anything other than post-modern teaching. And if you wish to look at things from a view point that is not post-modern, the only place to do it will be in your exams, where you will suffer in your marks because it will be assumed that you have simply over looked all the 'high brow' philosophy that was included in the seminars, even if you include philosophy of equal depth and just avoid post-modernism.

I also appreciated, even more, Prof Peterson, your acknowledgement and consideration of how he worded that and it was fairly obvious he got you thinking about your own approach to those words. Comrade Tome! Your counter-revolutionary actions must be condemned. Your sister and nephew should turn themselves over to The Party for re-education and be released for ungood thoughts.
      We must remember the purpose of education in the USSA is to cleanse the children of conservative parents of bourgeois falsehoods, and condition them for life in a progressive society, through instilling the correct ideas of multiculturalism, moral relativity, collectivism, and sacrifice for The Greater Good™. No anarchic free market of schools should be permissible. All schools must be within the nationwide government system, manned with Party soldiers teaching the same controlled message to ensure a majority mandate for a continuation of orthodoxy. Children must be encouraged to report the misdeeds of one another to authorities and to denounce their parents as well as those teachers who stray away from pre-approved textbooks. If you see something, denounce someone.
      In the past decades we made the government force private establishments to share a pulpit with us so as to ensure a fair spread of opinions; that stage is over, comrades - the media is ours now and we can dispense with that regulation lest capitalists use it to express their dangerous views. To make sure our opponents don't invoke their right to Free Speech we have come up with the concept of Hate Speech. Freedom of Speech has now been replaced with a more progressive concept - Freedom to Agree - with the collective opinion expressed through a Party representative.
      All Hail the Collective! and Long live the Deep State & Inner Party Intelligentsia, active builders of speech codes - the Basic Law of our Life!

      Well CuckPhilospher claims that the PostModern philosophers are not relativists quoting Derrida and Foucault, such as:
      “Are you a relativist simply because you say, for instance, that the other is the other, and that every other is other than the other? If I want to pay attention to the singularity of the other, the singularity of the situation, the singularity of language, is that relativism? … No, relativism is a doctrine which has its own history in which there are only points of view with no absolute necessity, or no references to absolutes. That is the opposite to what I have to say. … I have never said such a thing. Neither have I ever used the word relativism.”
      ― Jacques Derrida
      I consider these declarations as frauds. After all there is no truth as per modernists; all is a matter of opinion and language interpretation.

    • @svvv977
      @svvv977 5 лет назад

      @@BernardPech this is not really the case. Im not as familiar with Derrida as I am with other postmodernists, such as Foucault and Rorty, but for these two it is safe to say that they are not relativists. First of all, both know that relativism is ultimately self defeating, because it makes a universal truth claim about there being no such claims. For both Foucault and Rorty truth is very real and it definitely exists. If there is no such thing as 'truth' why would Foucault write these genealogies on prisons, to give an example? Foucault is making truth claims in all of his books. He doesn't deny truth.
      Their conception of truth is different from many modernists, but that doesnt make them relativitsts

I ordered ur book (12 rules) at Amazon but I have a very big problem with it. I'm from Germany and my friends and family dont speak english as well as they should, so I wanted to get a German version as well. But I stopped when I saw the reviews, 2 stars in average so I looked up some reviews and I was very shocked. The translation company (I dont know if it was done on purpose but I think so because we have some pretty good translators here) totally changed ur book. They portray u totally wrong, put words in ur mouth, change the meaning of sentences and straight up lie. Its manipulation on the highest level and I could not believe it but there are dozens of reviews that all say the same. I dont know if u will see this comment but I very much hope so. U should do something against these people who try to ruin ur reputation and spread a false message in ur name.

    Thank you for this interview! Hegel discusses at length in his Phenomenology, The phase of skepticism. He repeats over and over how the subject “reduces to nothing” everything he finds. THAT is the road to nihilism. Like Jordan says, this intellectual tool is in the hands of those who are not “trained” to handle it.... the journey of Spirit continues on, in other words.
    Interesting too how a generation raised on videos games and the coming virtual reality feel free to retreat into a subjective fantasy on all levels.
    By grounding themselves in linguistics, postmodernists are ultimately bound to a Platonic ideal. ( recall Neitszche saying “Christianity is Platonism for the people”) And in this way become identical with any religious zealot, who can then pick and choose what aspects of reality ...are real.

    Well done.
    I'm loving the folk Jordan Peterson is having conversations with. I wish this was around decades ago.

      You read Hicks' book? And you continue to take Him seriously? The fact that he called Emanuel Kant a "counter enlightenment philosopher" and claimed that he rejected reason for religion alone should have made it clear that Hicks is either profoundly ignorant or profoundly dishonest in regard to even basic philosophy.

      Dr Hicks' lectures on post-modernism are on RUclips - about 6 hrs in total - and fascinating and enlightening. Perhaps the most profitable time I've ever spent learning about what makes the politically correct world tick.

    The few minute ‘saying goodbye’ at the end was the more charming element of this very inspiring and informative video. Thanks for posting this.
