  • Hello,
    In this video, we are completing a little R&R to see if we can bring my MSI R9 390 graphics card back to life. This R9 390 use to live its life as a Crypto miner video card in it's previously life line until I purchased it from the first owner. It was purchased as a used card that was not working 100%. However, for $50 bucks, it was worth the risk to purchase not to mention I already had a working MSI R7 370 graphics card. So what do I have to lose?
    Let's bring this MSI R9 390 card back to life....
    Note: This is ONLY a temporary fix. A permanent solution would require you to take your video card to a Mico Chip repair shop to have either the GPU or micro memory chips "Reflow or Reballed".
    Enjoy the video!

    Just want to say thanks for the video! Tried fixing a r9 390x I bought for £70 broken (artifacts), used a hair dryer first and didn’t work then tried a heat gun. First attempt didn’t work but after try’s, adjustments and tempt/time changes I got it from blurred lines to crisp graphics 👍🙌

    Please guys only use this method on cards that have artifacts problems and only if you are sure that the artifacting isn't caused by a corrupted bios or a driver issue .
    Btw nice video mate , keep it up !

    • @AWordFromMrJones
      @AWordFromMrJones  9 месяцев назад

      Mine did but some video cards may require a reflow or replace of the GPU or memory chips. Search around your area for a shop that repairs motherboards and videos cards.
      These are businesses whom specialize in electronic boards. Some may charge $100-$300 for repairs depends on the board/chipset.
      Hope you find a solution.

    what to do for Laptops?

    • @AWordFromMrJones
      @AWordFromMrJones  2 года назад

      Majority of laptops have an internal graphics card which cannot be removed. I would highly recommend that you inspect the laptop for dust, clean it with compressed air. Regarding the artifacts affect, if your laptop is displaying this issue, you can try to update your video card drivers, lower the game display settings to find a setting that works. But ultimately your goal would be to purchase a gaming rig or build one.

    hello, is it temporary or permanent solution? thanks

    • @AWordFromMrJones
      @AWordFromMrJones  3 года назад +3

      This would be the best case scenario for "preventive maintenance". This would be something you should do at least every 4-5yrs. But that also depends on the load/stress and heat on your GPU.
      So in simplest terms, this is consider maintenance which is periodic thing to do for optimal performance and lifespan of your video card.

    Don't soldier and don't use heat gun it is firmware issue of gpu flash the firmware first upgrade then downgrade your gpu will be fine if not the only solution is to reball

    • @AWordFromMrJones
      @AWordFromMrJones  3 года назад +1

      That is correct, firmware driver can also cause video display issues. I have a video on this process.
      ruclips.net/video/U2n1Xpcja7k/видео.html
      However, this video is for those whom already tried reinstalling the video card driver and still has issues. So this is more so a last attempt resolutions before any purchases a new video card.
      The video card I did this to, still works fine today.
      Thanks

    Bro, this is not a recommended fix.
    It will be temporary and the problem will come back again.
    To fix this permanently you have 2 choices:
    a reballing or a reflow.
    Reballing requires expensive tools and experiences so you need to send this to professionals if you want to do so.
    Reflowing is also difficult but you can do it with right equipements.
    You will need a pre-heater (something that can heat up the board from the back (under the GPU) and a Rework Station (a professional hot air station that is specially designed for that).
    You'll also need a thermo-couple or an infrared thermometer + an Amtech flux that will help the solder balls melting correctly.
    You can find tutorials on youtube.

    • @AWordFromMrJones
      @AWordFromMrJones  2 года назад

      No worries. But as mentioned in the video and description, this would be classified as a temporary fix. Permanent fix is to get the GPU reflow.
      This particular video card has been working fine since this video.
      Thanks
