Anthony savena that's not true if your talking about the most capable device. All phones are not created equal but if 2 were equal then they're both the best out. What one can not determine is what device is "best" for each individual needs or wants, that's a different thing.
Depends on what you want. I have both and the S8+ just aint getting me excited. I love the display, but other than that from a feature point of view its like a step back from Mate9 and Note7. I've decided to send it back and wait for the stereo enabled N8 with dual screen cameras. Oh the speaker phone is the worst. I could barely hear the other person on the other end of the phone in my house. All of this is my OP. I love phones and have zero brand loyalty and for me this phone is not the one.
Yeah the UI is by far the cleanest Android UI... Launcher? Dafuq lol. Stock Android looks terrible cause of the on screen buttons on the bottom. Sammy did it better... everything. even if Bixby doesnt really work. for now... it looks amazing especially with S health in there... and the fingerprint scanner... people just dont have anything to talk about thats bad so they keep smashing it... Oh this other youtuber said this... imma say it too :P
When I saw the rear, i quickly imagined flash above the camera and fingerprint sensor below the camera. That will still give symmetry design and will be easier for right/left user.
I have NOT smudged my camera. I'm not a spastic as Mr. Ford thinks. I have always held my phone in my left hand and it is very simple to use the fingerprint reader for me.
have had my S8+ for 8 days now. all I have to say is the camera is amazing! battery life has been off the charts for me. with heavy usage im getting 8 hours of SOT with 16-20 hours of use on a charge. the design is flawless.

I held a dummy model and I never touched the camera. I think these videos are exaggerating the placement of the fingerprint scanner to make Samsung change it. If you buy it, you will probably find that it is fine.

What I like about it best, is the phone gets so bright I never have to use it at the max indoors. It saves soooo much battery life because of that. This phone is incredible. Also, the fingerprint sensor is EASY to reach. I love my S8+

I just got this device for my work phone and OH MY GOD! I have never had a Samsung device that made feel this excited. I have an Iphone 7plus for my personal, and I have been using the S8+ more often. I can not get over the screen, it is the best screen that I have ever seen on a phone. I don't use Bixby, and touchwhiz, and like you I love what they have done with Android as well. Samsung has knocked this out of the park!

I bought this phone and love it. It's a bit taller than I'm used to so harder to use with one hand. The fingerprint reader is oddly located so I use the iris scanner. And for the first time ever I actually love the software and didn't download a launcher either. Although I still changed the keyboard to Swype. Overall this is the best phone out right now IMO. And it's sexy looking too
I hope i can help here, i'm using an s8+ and the fingerprint sensor is easy to use if you have the correct number of chromosomes, and the speakers sound better than most, and the screen is incredible, if you are on the fence..... get it!
This was an amazing review! I loved the cinematography and the beautiful shots! The background music fits perfectly with the narration, and speaking of the narration, it's really soothing! I loved how you actually told us how you found the phone and how it was too use from a personal experience; especially how you used it at Home Depot and in the real world with your family, because that's how I use it and it gave a good insight as to how it'll perform. It was great you told us your experience first and specs last, because if you had shown specs first like other reviewers do, it kinda creates a bias to the viewer that they keep throughout the video. Overall, I LOVE this new style. Also, the logo at the end was a nice touch.
I just bought an s8 three days ago (had a Sony Xperia Z3 before that) an I'm totally sold. I love everything about it. And I simply cannot understand why everyone seems to complaining about the placement of the finger print scanner?! At least for me it is super easy to find it. First of all it's not in the middle of the phone so come on just aim. Secondly there is a slight elevated edge around it that is easy to feel. So at least for me it's not a problem at all, and I love how quick it unlocks the phone.
I really like the fact that it's a longer video, please don't change that. The review format was awesome, talking about the features in context of use is so much nicer than just doing a run down of the spec sheet.
That is a gorgeous phone and I wish I had gotten it in that color. I just got a S8+, well when they came out since I pre-ordered, but I wasn't sure if I would like the all-black, but turns out I would have seeing it in a real-world usage. I still love the phone so this is definitely a #FirstWorldProblem
Hi Jon and TB team. Great phone review format. Shows the phone from an average user perspective in a real world use. I always love your review. One comment from me. I don't know if you realize this, but when you start your sentences, it's always loud and clear, but towards the end your voice becomes slower and slower. Then you start a new sentence again in clear voice, towards the end it slows down again. Because you speak quite fast, sometimes I didn't quite catch what you were saying. You can see this pattern in your other videos as well. Just a thought, perhaps it's something to improve on. Overall, great work and awesome video. keep up the great work..!

Hound Life Vlogs easy choice...if you want a basic phone and won't use all the features go iPhone. If you want a phone that gives many more options and capabilities the S8 is currently top in the world in that category. Both will work well and have roughly same battery life. Personally I can't deal with the boringness of the iPhone.

nice review but why do you guys keep stressing on how hard it is to reach the fingerprint sensor? I can't understand why you hold your phone so close to the bottom instead of in the middle where your hand will be able to reach the top of the phone easily.

with a case on it, I'm having no issue finding the fingerprint reader on my S8+, but i understand why you might with a naked phone. Also, the face recognition is pretty fast, but having glasses on or off makes it super annoying. I wish you could have more than one face per user. 3 would be awesome. Iris scanning is cool, but too hit or miss. As such even with the awkward placement, the fingerprint reader has been the best for me. Smart unlock also very key to helping make this much less annoying
Hello All its my second day with the S8+ and I love playing video games on it watching RUclips. You're right , just doing simple stuff is fun and looks and feels great. I went from a Note 4 Edge to the S8+. So happy right now.
every review of the phone says something negative about the fingerprint sensor placement from touching the camera, to difficult to reach and a few other things yet I've not had an issue reaching it and if you touch the camera it's great at not smudging so kind of blown out of proportion
Used a Galaxy S8 earlier, have a iPhone 14 Pro Max, S8 was amazing and a feature rich powerful Android Flagship❤ We don’t find phone this interesting and innovative now a days😢
My wife got the S8 and I got the G6. I as a heavy user. ( I replaced my laptop in 2015 with the Note 4.) I run my Business on my phone now. so when I say heavy I'm talking 6 to 10 hours of screen on time 6 days a week. I can say the S8 is good looking but it isn't half the device the G6 is. the S8 locked up on me 2 or 3 times in a week. it powerd down from over heating, how I don't know. I haven't had a over heartening phone since I left the I phone in 2011. G6 runs like a Swiss watch. I love this phone.

I've been using iPhones since iPhone 1 (up through my last phone, the iPhone 6), and finally decided to give Android a try. I bought the Galaxy S8+ about a week ago, and in all honesty, I couldn't agree with your review more. I'd been accused of being an Apple fanboy (even though I've always been the type to agree that both Android and iOS have their strengths and weaknesses). The S8+ might just convert me over to the Android side, though. I also picked up a Galaxy Gear S3 Frontier, which trounces the Apple Watch in terms of functionality and even looks in my opinion. So far I'm extremely pleased with my S8+ and Android N and looking forward to what Android has to offer going forward.

I have the S8+ for a few days now. Coming from iOS devices, right away I noticed the UI could allow for more screen real estate. There are still solid menus on top and bottom. I like how in iOS, when you scroll content, the bars on top and bottom shrink or completely go away, leaving you with just content. I miss how solid menus and content melt, fade and dissolve into each other on iOS UI and apps. I want to find a way to customize this, I want apps to really consider fading away all top and bottom solid bars. I also want the navigation icons to not be solid a lot of the times with a solid black or colored highlight, I want to see it fade into a watermark as the content scrolls through it !

Here's my story, Pre Ordered S8+, been using 8days, was using iPhones since 2010 then last year switched to S7 Edge as iPhones were boring me to tears, Sold my S7 Edge to get cash together to ore order S8+, whilst waiting on my S8+ to arrive I was using an iPhone 5S, well since having the S8+ I now kinda got used to IOS so I'll be sending mine back and getting iPhone 7, Absolutely love the S8+ in design but IOS 10 is really good. For me I feel I don't need all the bells and whistles that Samsung offer, Things I'll miss, Memory card support, the display, Fast Charging, Things I'm looking forward to going forward, The Home button, Siri, Mute Switch, The Camera, iMovie, Texting (easier) Speed and fluidity. Facetime to keep in better contact with my sister in law who is deaf and lip reads, iMessege. Please don't respond with nasty comments. Just respect were all different.
Phone Daft almost every feature you just mentioned or maybe even all are available on the S8 in one way or another. But everybody is different and some people just like boring there's nothing wrong with that.

Great review! I've had my S8+ almost a week & I love it! The fingerprint senser doesn't bother me so much, since their iris scanner works so well & when I'm home, I skip all that & just hit the haptic home key to turn my phone on. Cranking up the sensitivity on the home key in the settings makes it so responsive! I've been an avid Note fan since the Note 2, so this is my first Galaxy S & I have no regrets!
Incredible new style. Miles better than only product shot b-roll. This "real world" style is exactly what is needed in tech reviews. We want to see it being used around everywhere for different things - just like we would actually be using it. Great job, Jon.
After owning my s8+ for a few weeks now the fingerprint scanner is easy to locate. You'll develope the muscle memory naturally. If you make that the issue for this phone, you are just a spoiled baby.. find a REAL reason to cry next time..

Huge cons for me: No stereo speakers and software updates are really slooooowwwww. Otherwise a good phone (mind you not great) because this is the first of its kind design and they will perfect it with the S9 (just like S6>S7). At the moment, no reason to upgrade my S7.
Yes, they will save the improvements for the next one. That's just how these big companies operate, they need people to have a reason to buy the next one. Then after that, when people get bored, they could switch to foldable, providing they see demand for it.
S8 has mono speaker that's just as loud as the iphone 7's stereo speakers. And for the TERRIBLY SLOW updates, yeah it's super slow, but EVEN the S6's TouchWiz has more features than Nougat, and probably the android O
I've been a iPhone user since the 3G. Never had a Android phone. I recently switched over from a iPhone 6 to the new S8 plus. Fingerprint sensor is not a big deal for me and I have small hands. Software has been smooth to learn. I really like this phone and do not see myself going back.
This new style is amazing and I hope you make more videos like it. The cinematography is amazing and similar to much bigger channels like The Verge. And the fact that you took it into the real world just helps validate the review as a whole

I, over the years, have owned every brand of phone as well as many Android and IOS phones. I bought the iPhone 7 Plus about 2.5-3 months ago and absolutely love Apple, no hate or phone wars from me. Then when the S8+ was released I decided to go ahead and get it as well and have the best of both worlds. The s8+ feels amazing, a bulky case like an Otterbox truly took the sleek feel of it away, and one case I'd highly recommend ( with a glass screen protector ) is the Tech 21 Evo Check. Feels perfect and you still retain that sleek feel. The S+ is very fast and the screen... well the screen is amazing looking, I absolutely am in love with it. The pictures all look great as well, I think it lacks on a few spots BUT overall is beautiful in itself. I love wireless charging lol!. Honestly though I love the phone, I'd definitely recommend it.

I love my s8+, I upgraded from my s6 edge+ ONLY because I needed more memory, just sold it in perfect condition 😢 if it had the micro sd slot I would've never thought of purchasing this one, but so far I'm loving it.. I have small hands and I got used to the new fingerprint sensor real quick.

Loved your review! I'm so glad it's your default driver. Being a Samsung fan thru and thru (still recovering from loss of Note 7, I agree with you on the TouchWiz improvements... Omg is it better. What I really like is that they now allow you to uninstall their preloaded apps rather than just disabling them. Saves lots of space. One of my biggest complaints with the S7 (which I had to buy after the Note 7 recall 😢) was the 32GB storage. While there was an SD slot, it's not the same as internal storage and I was constantly having to uninstall apps just to make room for updates. Thanks for the great review and I did learn a trick or two from your review!

The iris scanner is so nice, Samsung finally made it so as soon as you bring up the screen (while locked) it instantly begins scanning your irises & after you get used to it, it unlocks almost instantly!

Superb review, Jon. I'm getting the S8+ in midnight black next week. The display is so immersive, only thing is that I works have preferred the fingerprint reader be embedded in the screen like the early rumours said it would.
Nova launcher with swipe down gesture to open notifications helps a lot with the height issue. I had a NP6, which is very similar height, but I hadn't thought about the screen being is MUCH higher, even though the overall footprint is about the same. I"m also having a few software bugs where google assistant will freeze, and the finger print reader will stop responding. Otherwise, this thing is badass. Love samsung pay, and the 1080p 60fps video is AMAZING...
Great review. Only note I have is that if you can't hit the (super-fast) fingerprint sensor when you pull it out of your pocket/purse/pocketbook, then that's on you. If you're smudging your camera, that's on you.

I bought this phone and love it. It's a bit taller than I'm used to so harder to use with one hand. The fingerprint reader is oddly located so I use the iris scanner. And for the first time ever I actually love the software and didn't download a launcher either. Although I still changed the keyboard to Swype. Overall this is the best phone out right now IMO. And it's sexy looking too
I hope i can help here, i'm using an s8+ and the fingerprint sensor is easy to use if you have the correct number of chromosomes, and the speakers sound better than most, and the screen is incredible, if you are on the fence..... get it!
This was an amazing review! I loved the cinematography and the beautiful shots! The background music fits perfectly with the narration, and speaking of the narration, it's really soothing! I loved how you actually told us how you found the phone and how it was too use from a personal experience; especially how you used it at Home Depot and in the real world with your family, because that's how I use it and it gave a good insight as to how it'll perform. It was great you told us your experience first and specs last, because if you had shown specs first like other reviewers do, it kinda creates a bias to the viewer that they keep throughout the video. Overall, I LOVE this new style. Also, the logo at the end was a nice touch.

I just bought an s8 three days ago (had a Sony Xperia Z3 before that) an I'm totally sold. I love everything about it. And I simply cannot understand why everyone seems to complaining about the placement of the finger print scanner?! At least for me it is super easy to find it. First of all it's not in the middle of the phone so come on just aim. Secondly there is a slight elevated edge around it that is easy to feel. So at least for me it's not a problem at all, and I love how quick it unlocks the phone.

I really like the fact that it's a longer video, please don't change that. The review format was awesome, talking about the features in context of use is so much nicer than just doing a run down of the spec sheet.
That is a gorgeous phone and I wish I had gotten it in that color. I just got a S8+, well when they came out since I pre-ordered, but I wasn't sure if I would like the all-black, but turns out I would have seeing it in a real-world usage. I still love the phone so this is definitely a #FirstWorldProblem

One comment from me. I don't know if you realize this, but when you start your sentences, it's always loud and clear, but towards the end your voice becomes slower and slower. Then you start a new sentence again in clear voice, towards the end it slows down again. Because you speak quite fast, sometimes I didn't quite catch what you were saying. You can see this pattern in your other videos as well.
Just a thought, perhaps it's something to improve on. Overall, great work and awesome video. keep up the great work..!

Thirdly, you drove home with the point which touched my heart! The video showed you spending a day with your kid and using the phone to take videos of your outing with him... This is basically what we expect from a high end smartphone! The question that pops up in our head when we want to buy a new phone is, does it have a good camera? Can I take pics and videos of my kids? Will the battery last long? Will I be able to see the screen in broad daylight? Is it water proof? As a dad, these are the first things that come to our mind when we plan on buying a new phone! And you touched all these points!

Hound Life Vlogs easy choice...if you want a basic phone and won't use all the features go iPhone. If you want a phone that gives many more options and capabilities the S8 is currently top in the world in that category. Both will work well and have roughly same battery life. Personally I can't deal with the boringness of the iPhone.

nice review but why do you guys keep stressing on how hard it is to reach the fingerprint sensor? I can't understand why you hold your phone so close to the bottom instead of in the middle where your hand will be able to reach the top of the phone easily.
Rico g people typically have a finger under the phone to support one handed function.
colbalt95 sure but when you actually take up your phone to unlock it you're not usually using it at that point.

i understand because of actual size, but im talking about people hitting the camera with their finger. i never hit the camera at all.
with a case on it, I'm having no issue finding the fingerprint reader on my S8+, but i understand why you might with a naked phone. Also, the face recognition is pretty fast, but having glasses on or off makes it super annoying. I wish you could have more than one face per user. 3 would be awesome. Iris scanning is cool, but too hit or miss. As such even with the awkward placement, the fingerprint reader has been the best for me. Smart unlock also very key to helping make this much less annoying

its my second day with the S8+ and I love playing video games on it watching RUclips. You're right , just doing simple stuff is fun and looks and feels great. I went from a Note 4 Edge to the S8+. So happy right now.
every review of the phone says something negative about the fingerprint sensor placement from touching the camera, to difficult to reach and a few other things yet I've not had an issue reaching it and if you touch the camera it's great at not smudging so kind of blown out of proportion

I have no problem reaching the finger print scanner it not the best position but I have no problem finding it .
My wife got the S8 and I got the G6.
I as a heavy user. ( I replaced my laptop in 2015 with the Note 4.) I run my Business on my phone now. so when I say heavy I'm talking 6 to 10 hours of screen on time 6 days a week.
I can say the S8 is good looking but it isn't half the device the G6 is. the S8 locked up on me 2 or 3 times in a week. it powerd down from over heating, how I don't know. I haven't had a over heartening phone since I left the I phone in 2011.
G6 runs like a Swiss watch. I love this phone.

I want the S8 right now
I've been using iPhones since iPhone 1 (up through my last phone, the iPhone 6), and finally decided to give Android a try. I bought the Galaxy S8+ about a week ago, and in all honesty, I couldn't agree with your review more. I'd been accused of being an Apple fanboy (even though I've always been the type to agree that both Android and iOS have their strengths and weaknesses). The S8+ might just convert me over to the Android side, though. I also picked up a Galaxy Gear S3 Frontier, which trounces the Apple Watch in terms of functionality and even looks in my opinion. So far I'm extremely pleased with my S8+ and Android N and looking forward to what Android has to offer going forward.

I have the S8+ for a few days now. Coming from iOS devices, right away I noticed the UI could allow for more screen real estate. There are still solid menus on top and bottom. I like how in iOS, when you scroll content, the bars on top and bottom shrink or completely go away, leaving you with just content. I miss how solid menus and content melt, fade and dissolve into each other on iOS UI and apps. I want to find a way to customize this, I want apps to really consider fading away all top and bottom solid bars. I also want the navigation icons to not be solid a lot of the times with a solid black or colored highlight, I want to see it fade into a watermark as the content scrolls through it !

Here's my story, Pre Ordered S8+, been using 8days, was using iPhones since 2010 then last year switched to S7 Edge as iPhones were boring me to tears, Sold my S7 Edge to get cash together to ore order S8+, whilst waiting on my S8+ to arrive I was using an iPhone 5S, well since having the S8+ I now kinda got used to IOS so I'll be sending mine back and getting iPhone 7, Absolutely love the S8+ in design but IOS 10 is really good. For me I feel I don't need all the bells and whistles that Samsung offer, Things I'll miss, Memory card support, the display, Fast Charging, Things I'm looking forward to going forward, The Home button, Siri, Mute Switch, The Camera, iMovie, Texting (easier) Speed and fluidity. Facetime to keep in better contact with my sister in law who is deaf and lip reads, iMessege. Please don't respond with nasty comments. Just respect were all different.
Phone Daft almost every feature you just mentioned or maybe even all are available on the S8 in one way or another. But everybody is different and some people just like boring there's nothing wrong with that.

Great review! I've had my S8+ almost a week & I love it! The fingerprint senser doesn't bother me so much, since their iris scanner works so well & when I'm home, I skip all that & just hit the haptic home key to turn my phone on. Cranking up the sensitivity on the home key in the settings makes it so responsive! I've been an avid Note fan since the Note 2, so this is my first Galaxy S & I have no regrets!

After owning my s8+ for a few weeks now the fingerprint scanner is easy to locate. You'll develope the muscle memory naturally. If you make that the issue for this phone, you are just a spoiled baby.. find a REAL reason to cry next time..

Huge cons for me: No stereo speakers and software updates are really slooooowwwww. Otherwise a good phone (mind you not great) because this is the first of its kind design and they will perfect it with the S9 (just like S6>S7). At the moment, no reason to upgrade my S7.
Yes, they will save the improvements for the next one. That's just how these big companies operate, they need people to have a reason to buy the next one. Then after that, when people get bored, they could switch to foldable, providing they see demand for it.

I've been a iPhone user since the 3G. Never had a Android phone. I recently switched over from a iPhone 6 to the new S8 plus. Fingerprint sensor is not a big deal for me and I have small hands. Software has been smooth to learn. I really like this phone and do not see myself going back.

I, over the years, have owned every brand of phone as well as many Android and IOS phones. I bought the iPhone 7 Plus about 2.5-3 months ago and absolutely love Apple, no hate or phone wars from me. Then when the S8+ was released I decided to go ahead and get it as well and have the best of both worlds. The s8+ feels amazing, a bulky case like an Otterbox truly took the sleek feel of it away, and one case I'd highly recommend ( with a glass screen protector ) is the Tech 21 Evo Check. Feels perfect and you still retain that sleek feel. The S+ is very fast and the screen... well the screen is amazing looking, I absolutely am in love with it. The pictures all look great as well, I think it lacks on a few spots BUT overall is beautiful in itself. I love wireless charging lol!. Honestly though I love the phone, I'd definitely recommend it.

I love my s8+, I upgraded from my s6 edge+ ONLY because I needed more memory, just sold it in perfect condition 😢 if it had the micro sd slot I would've never thought of purchasing this one, but so far I'm loving it.. I have small hands and I got used to the new fingerprint sensor real quick.

Loved your review! I'm so glad it's your default driver. Being a Samsung fan thru and thru (still recovering from loss of Note 7, I agree with you on the TouchWiz improvements... Omg is it better. What I really like is that they now allow you to uninstall their preloaded apps rather than just disabling them. Saves lots of space. One of my biggest complaints with the S7 (which I had to buy after the Note 7 recall 😢) was the 32GB storage. While there was an SD slot, it's not the same as internal storage and I was constantly having to uninstall apps just to make room for updates. Thanks for the great review and I did learn a trick or two from your review!

The iris scanner is so nice, Samsung finally made it so as soon as you bring up the screen (while locked) it instantly begins scanning your irises & after you get used to it, it unlocks almost instantly!

Superb review, Jon. I'm getting the S8+ in midnight black next week. The display is so immersive, only thing is that I works have preferred the fingerprint reader be embedded in the screen like the early rumours said it would.

Nova launcher with swipe down gesture to open notifications helps a lot with the height issue. I had a NP6, which is very similar height, but I hadn't thought about the screen being is MUCH higher, even though the overall footprint is about the same.
I"m also having a few software bugs where google assistant will freeze, and the finger print reader will stop responding.
Otherwise, this thing is badass. Love samsung pay, and the 1080p 60fps video is AMAZING...

Only note I have is that if you can't hit the (super-fast) fingerprint sensor when you pull it out of your pocket/purse/pocketbook, then that's on you.
If you're smudging your camera, that's on you.
