Bravo CivilNet, bravo Patrick and bravo H.E. Olivier Decottignies. Very informative exchange. Like every person I met in Armenia says: Let us work for peace but be prepared for war.
France came to the rescue when Turkey threatened Greece with war in 2020 by sending a nuclear aircraft carrier to Greece to let Turkey know French aircraft will shoot down Turkish aircraft. Now Turkey is threatening Israel with war
Questions are a bit naive, and focus too much on "what can we do more for France?". A better question can be, "what are the strategic areas of cooperation beyond defence, where France and Armenia can pursure further cooperation?". Other than that, thank you for having the ambassador!
As an American, it's depressing to see our recent failures to be the champion of freedom that we profess/aim to be. Glad to see France is filling the role for now: defending political, diplomatic, cultural, economic, and defensive initiatives for democracy -- all in the name of sovereignty and freedom from the whims of neighborhood dictators.
Excellent interview, I am so used to the lack of uncomfortable questions and follow up in U.S. media it was refreshing to see Patrick ask some difficult questions (for the most part you got the "diplomatic" answer but still you get a lot from what is not said or implied). Great job Patrick! What France is doing for and with Armenia is great, truly exceptional and should be praised and deeply appreciated...but....Armenians should never, ever rely on it's international relationships alone or the charity and sympathy of others. The real world is the world of realpolitik and not the world of doing whats right. Only Armenia can save Armenia. I am most looking forward to Armenia developing its own military industrial complex, technological infrastructure and world class education and training for its youth. Any expertise and training France can provide, or diplomatic doors they can open for Armenia will be an invaluable gift, even more so than the badly needed weapons.
- it sounds to me like France wants to help us strengthen our own security not do it FOR us. This attitude of expecting someone else to do it for us needs to change.
What company was the Ambassdor talking about when he said “Armenia must make sure that never happens again?” Anyone have any insight on what he was talking about? He mentioned about a French company packing up and leaving or something along those lines.
Some of the questions and lead-ons stroke me as a bit harsh. At a time where France is being the most amicable country in the west to Armenia, you can't have a journalist with some sort of personal or family beef with France asking the questions. Could've (should've) highlighted the fact that Armenia is a member of La Francophonie, that France is the 3rd country with the most numerous Armenian diaspora, that Armenian-French amicable diplomacy goes back to the middle ages. For strengthening bilateral cooperation you need to bare in mind differences but emphasize on similarities. In any case, kudos and thank you to Mr Ambassador for some great insights and the ever friendly advise for Armenia to diversify its diplomacy and not naively stick to France as some sort of savior or white knight despite France's unequivocal support and solidarity.
sorry to say, but this is not very optimistic report I heard from France, basically you guys have to be better than you are and it is what it is from European Union. Nothing you can put on the table but we will try to give you your candy.
All investment in Armenia is very risky while Russian agents of influence not only walk freely but control all essential aspects of life in Armenia. I hope Armenian public has appreciation for the risk that France is taking by diving into this relationship
Go to few hundred years back and all prase sentences in the comment section would still be accurate by replacing "France" with "Russia". Armenian (not only as a country but also national identity) foreign policy has always been relying on one power against the other. It might be benefitial in short term, but in a long run with a geopolitical shift, Armenia and armenians are bound to suffer. It is also evident from centuries of shrinking as a population and territory.
Also, Nicol is not our dictator - we can easily elect a new prime minister to replace him , with a more nationalistic Armenian leader - putin and russia are ****** either way 😁😁😁

A CSTO question would’ve been relevant and interesting. Pleasant to hear though.

Scientific research, collab on bio science, biotech, pharmaceuticals, agro tech, hi tech education,
Patrick never asks naive questions - in fact his questioning is great.

Excellent work

You are absolutely right.
Wonderful interview- does this sound like -dejavu- reminds you Ukraine before 2014?

He was talking about the French telecommunications company (mobile/cell phones network) called Orange

So you basically wanted the interviewer the kiss the ambassador’s *** - sorry we don’t do that in Armenia

Well-said. ❤
Dégoûtant...
France wants to tweak Turkey and often goes its own way. Read into their actions as much as you like.
Yeah Armenia will become nato with Turkish and Russian approval. lol 😂
Are Armenians ready for Armenia to become like Ukraine?

You think Putin is going to stand by and watch 2nd Ukraine coming to life?
Anyone who still supports putin and russia should be deported from Armenia.
It's the death knell of Nikol. You saw what happened to Ukraine...
If they try to kill Nicol then putin is basically killing himself - we will take revenge
Also, Nicol is not our dictator - we can easily elect a new prime minister to replace him , with a more nationalistic Armenian leader - putin and russia are ****** either way 😁😁😁
