Having the correct tools makes all the difference. Those " ice tongs " for the idler roller is the Cats Meow ! Bolts sure live a hard life on those track frames. Thank You for the time and effort to share all this Jeff. Best Wishes to everyone at Anderson Construction. #JeffWins
Sometimes, on those bolts that are broken down in the holes, you can take some pipe, stick it in the hole and then use the stick welder. Put the rod inside the pipe and weld it to the broken off bolt. Then throw a big ass pipe wrench on it. Like anything else, sometimes it works good other times, it doesn't.
Great video Jeff this track frame is coming together nicely. Few more bolts to remove and fix. Thanks for sharing looking forward to your next video stay safe Jeff.
The 53's have the screws, the 71's the palm bolt center of valve cover. Just some trivia, they have a distinct sound. I you watch HBO's "The Pacific" you can hear that distinct sound on the landing craft exiting the LST on the invasion of Peleliu. The two strokes got their start as 6-71's they called them Grey Marine" in WW2 landing craft. I think I am close to being right.
Your Detroit is definitely a 53 series! All 71 series governor’s. are driven off of-the blower. 53’s are driven off the gear train. Along with air box covers, valve cover bolts, etc. They also sound entirely different, but that’s a subject for a different time.
it's inside, takes 45 tons to compress it and put the center bolt thru, then the fun part is when you put it inside and install the cover then release the tension so it can operate
I don't know how many times I've said to myself "I hope I don't ever have to take that apart again, ever". I hope that your luck is better than mine was.
Jeff it sucks not being able to see your weld. Check and see if you can find a bi-focal lens’s for your welding helmet, I got one for my helmet and it made a big difference in how I can see my weld. Good luck.
Jeff….I know this is a personal question, but how much do you anticipate the rebuild for the track assemblies will cost? I’m thinking 30k. How close or how far off am I?
@@Jpaydirt UGH….God Bless you brother. I love equipment-I love your channel. The ugh was for the cost. You’d tend to believe CAT casts those rollers out of gold bars!
I hurt just watching you do all this hard work I don't begrudge you at all for being a multi millionaire after all this hard work
They make a log picker upper thingy that looks just like that idler picker upper.

As long as you use your weaker gun to tighten you will always be able to get loose with the strong one. LOL

I'm afraid there rusted bad from all the water I work in, that's a clever idea though, I'm going to try it
The nice thing with welding the bolt to a pipe or a nut if it’s broken flush is it heats the bolts when it cools it helps loosen it
Can do broken 3500 series car engine head bolts in situ using that method
Might help if you apply some heat before you weld next time (propane weed burner) it won't crack your welds as easy. Just my 2 cents.
Yeah, I didn’t know 1-5/8 and 41 mm where are the same? so I checked, and they are the same dang well, i learn something new every day
Where is your apprentice at , you should be sitting directing traffic!

why don't you use your mechanic truck with the remote control crane ?
hey jeff im sure u seen it but i hope u saw the cracks in that metal frame whole that the bar going between the rollers goes thru
Does is look to you like the track frame is broken in a couple places? 3:22
Ha Ha. You just mentioned welding those spots. Good deal.
broken bolts in the track tension shield.. have your son drill holes thru some bolts that fit those holes to use as drill guides. several sizes..
Will you do any painting on these machines?
Is your entire Equipment yard 5 feet deep with gravel? I’m still trying to wrap my head around the pit your boy dug to unload the big gal…
The whole area is gravel with a little soil on top.
Jeff, that is a lot of work. Great video. You're getting there.
Very interesting video ..TY!
Thanks for the show Jeff 🍻

Not a big deal, I do it everyday. 😂
What are you doing this weekend? If you leave now...........🤔
@@Jpaydirt sorry, I’m going riding with Bec!
Do you weld tabs on roller bolts and guard bolts to keep them from coming loose?
no, I do weld the guards though so they can't wiggle and loosen the bolts

Is there no recoil spring on a D9 or is it contained within the track tensioner?

I knew old man ran a cherry picker for 40 years he was moving with a load flipped and killed him he was about to retire didn't make it

That is a lot of heavy hard work. I am surprised you don’t burn up your yellow work gloves while welding. I always seem to cook my leather gloves
Nice arc weld Jeff. The old dozer will be ready to move mountains again and work like new.
Also, how are the track frame pivot bushings?
Hi Geoff Why dont you just use a breaker bar and steel tube to torque the this stuff. Electric rattle gun seems to suck some what
Enjoyed this video bro. Safe travels. Ken.
Would it hurt to tack all those bolts in so they don't come out? Good work jeff
I got some 7018 from India, it ran nicer than any I ever had. Can't find it again.
No doubt about it Jeff, you are a rare talent. Gooduponyou from Downunder.💪👍
Lots of work bulldozers are. Lots of good work IMHO.
J why don’t you hard surface those rollers?
I don't think that would be a good idea, or the RR would do it
@@Jpaydirt why not I hard surface rollers and front idlers
Thanks for the answer
Any time
Good evening from Southeast South Dakota rain day here
Lately, it looks like you’ve been having too much fun but I have a question what is the operating temperature range? What a 5.9 Cummings
my 01 runs a 190 thermostat
Jeff always gets it done. 🥇
Jeff you are as always say a great mechanic.
Cant beat the arc of those old ideal arcs buttery smooth
All my kids are better than me on a bicycle.
Jeff what all are you replacing on these track frames? You going the whole 9 yards with new tracks, sprockets, etc?
yes, I went to Minnesota last year and bought a brand new set of CAT tracks for 15K, bought the rollers a month ago
Log picker. Idlers too I see…😂😂😂😂 25:11
I have a D9G and it looks like you are missing pipes that go over the long bolts. Do you have a parts manual?
there installed,

Jeff….I know this is a personal question, but how much do you anticipate the rebuild for the track assemblies will cost? I’m thinking 30k. How close or how far off am I?
16k for the rollers and 15k for the tracks, then the seals and bearings, bolts, nuts etc.
