  • On this episode we are re-visiting a topic we discussed over a year ago but it's such a common question, we decided it was worth discussing again. The question comes up multiples time per day, with customers asking if they should be considering a thermal scope with an included laser range finder. This week we take the time to discuss this topic and offer some suggestions on when a laser range finder is very helpful and when it's probably unnecessary.

    *** Why Hunt Hogs? ***
    Our journey into wild/feral hog hunting started like many others living in rural communities. We didn't start hog hunting for fun or sport... we did it because we had to. You see, hogs cause millions of dollars of damage and destruction each year in rural communities and our situation was no different. Hogs were destroying our land and that out of friends and family. The vast majority of hunting stories that you hear about on this channel are hogs, boars and sows, taken from family land... this problem is personal for us...
    __________________________________________________
    *** Why Hunt Coyotes and Predators? ***
    Coyotes and Predators, similar to hogs, cause financial stress for many families in rural communities. Coyotes kill livestock, plain and simple. Ranchers have battled coyotes killing cattle since the early days of ranching and it costs them dearly. Cattle ranching is a business, the cows aren't pets, every time they lose a calf to a coyote those families lose a paycheck. Cattle ranchers hate coyotes just as much as Farmers hate hogs! We hunt coyotes to protect the livelihood of our friends and neighbors that depend on their cattle business to feed their family...

    Rangefinder has definitely increased my shot placement, coyotes are always changing there distance here especially educated ones. If you can afford it buy it you will use it. This was a great subject to hit on, very informative Videos as always 🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍 I want pulsar C-50v2 4k lrf for my day hunting 🤟😎

    Great video, and an important topic. I hunt yotes in ohio and wouldn't do without my lrf. Night hunting...nealry impossible to judge distance, so i feel its required equipment. Im also a handloader and long range shooter. The reason i bring this up is to do with the ballistic computer discussion. One of my thermal optics has on board ballistic comp and it is spot on to 400 so far. I wish more companies would offer it. Its the only solution fast enough to use on yotes. Unfortunately the optic its on doesnt have the best image, but i find myself using it more than the one with better image anyway because its a literal death machine on yotes.
    Great job as usual, keep up the outstanding work fellas.

    Great video love your shows. I knew I needed a LRF and this is I question I did not hear asked. What are you putting your night vision scope on. If the answer is any airgun yes you would benefit from a LRF crossbow same answer. Any large caliber rifle or pistol that drops relatively quickly (44 mag). LRF built in is very helpfull.

    I think you guys nailed it with this vid. I almost bought a non rangefinder thermion for my first thermal scope and man after putting it to work on some dogs a few weeks ago I’m so glad I forked out for the LRF model. Once you get past 200yds it’s pretty hard to gauge the distance!

    • @Lukeveltman

      And it makes it more versatile to swap between calibre and the ballistic calculator if you have the firmware update!

    My Grendel shoots so flat it covers 90% of ohio distances on yores point blank. Still in love with my Bolt tl-35 v1 from yall a couple years ago. My wraith stopped working and mother in law trashed the receipt so no warranty so i bought a pard nv scope with nuilt in ballistic calculator and rangefinder. Its very accurate except for doping the wind. It also showed how little holdover a grendel needs here. The pard is cool but their thermals, ive yet to see a thermal that can hang with iray at that price point

    • @TheLateNightVisionShow
      @TheLateNightVisionShow  9 месяцев назад

      Yes sir we wouldn’t mess with a Pard thermal. Really clunky and the image quality isn’t there and the company isn’t very well established in the US. Thanks for watching sir!

    absolutely, for a slow subsonic like 45 ACP or 300BLK, absolutely need to know range hence holdover.

    Just wondering why you never mention ATN scopes? They also have a LRF on their NV scopes with ballistics.

    • @TheLateNightVisionShow

      Thanks for watching. We’ll be completely honest and upfront. We always have been.
      We used to be an ATN dealer many years ago. Due their years of terrible scope reliability, non-existent customer service and extremely questionable businesses practices, we cut ties with them. We felt we could no longer carry their products and sell them to customers with a clear conscience. We even have an episode from 5-6 years ago about it.
      At this point, we do not know of a single reputable full time independent (non-corporate) NV and thermal dealer that is still an ATN dealer. They earned a reputation that cannot be reversed.
      Thanks again for watching!

      @@TheLateNightVisionShow I hear you. I have 4 X-Sight 4K Pros and all of them have freezing images, unresponsive buttons, and SMF errors on the display. I also have a thermal hand-held with the same issues. But I still use them almost every weekend and have found that if I don't set any of the parameters, other than the scope name, the issues are a lot less. I watch every episode of the LNVS, but for the life of me, I can't decide which NV scope I would select to replace them.

      Yes sir we don’t throw rocks at any one’s equipment. If a guy duct tapes a mag light to his shotgun (that’s where we came from!) to a guy using brands we’ve tested and didn’t care for. If it works for you, got for it! But when it comes to what we review and sell, our word and reputations are on the line and we never want to promote something we don’t believe in just to make a dollar. There are optics we don’t sell and don’t recommend from every single manufacturer that we work with. That’s the best part of our job, we get to use them all and cherry pick what we like.
      When you get ready to make the next purchase, give us a call, we’d love to have your business.

    @The Late Night Vision Show, just purchased a hand held leupold rx1400i would and looks to be a great rangefinder for the money. My question is..... There is a new night vision company based in Texas and they have what they are calling the rix t20 tourer. Could y'all do a review of that night vision optic? It seems like it is an amazing optic for what they are asking price wise and the picture quality when zooming in and throughout the range looks amazing compared even to some higher priced night vision options. Thanks in advance for your reply!

    • @TheLateNightVisionShow
      @TheLateNightVisionShow  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching Matt. We’re not planning any Rix reviews right now. We’re waiting to see how they fare for a little while and how their service is etc. We’re slow to react and don’t jump on every new brand on Day 1. We owe it to the customers who choose to do bushes with us, that we do our homework first and not review or recommend optics and companies we don’t have a lot of knowledge and faith in.

    I still cannot believe trijicon didnt add an rangefinder in their first gen reticle, and still on gen4 if you count when they bought whoever 🤭 they dont know ideas over there they buy them and its sad

    • @TheLateNightVisionShow
      @TheLateNightVisionShow  9 месяцев назад +1

      Sadly Trijicon thermals are outdated technology and way over priced. There are optics at a fraction of the cost they run circles around the Trijicons these days.

    • @brettb614
      @brettb614 8 месяцев назад

      Trijicon is washed up in the consumer market and seemingly couldn't't care less about serving it. They have plenty of govt contracts so they think they don't need to. When the contracts dry up, then maybe they'll figure things out. Not holding my breath
