Hey STEEZY Nation,
It’s happening: you’re learning a new piece of choreography and all of a sudden, boom. Your brain gives up on you. Nothing is sticking! We’ve all been there…so here’s some help.
Clay and Jessie share 3 simple tips to help kick your brain into gear and remember those moves. 🧠
Try these:
1. Name moves and make correlating sounds.
2. Snap at end points.
3. Breathe during pauses, holds, and grooves.
Bonus Tip: Try writing down the choreography - like naming the dance moves, but just on paper!
Adding cues to create a personal connection to the choreography (through naming the moves, sounds, snaps, and breathing) will prompt your brain to register the dance moves better.
Comment below to share more tips with your fellow STEEZY Nation peeps!

"Circle, twerk!" I literally lost it 💀💀
Hey Steezy,
I asked my choreographer for tips after a class. First off, thanks for giving me the confidence to do that! They said I had the choreography down, but I seemed timid. How do I bring out my inner slay? It's not just about dancing more full out, it's just about coming across more in control when you know the choreography already.
Thanks!
Give me a like if anyone has this problem!
I'm not a great dancer but I do activities that involve it. My beat tip is have fun. You make a mistake? Laugh at it. My biggest problem is memorization, hence why I'm here, but just groove. Fake it till you make it and jam out to your song. It get easier as time goes on.
My teacher literally said the same thing to me, but idek how to break out of it like💀
I'm not the best dancer either, like the previous comment said, but I've found that just sitting down, listening and enjoying the song without dancing helps, cause listening to the song by itself will make you appreciate it and want to dance. This will make you instinctively perform with more passion cause you're more interested in the beat and less anxious about the steps.
You have to put your heart & soul in it. Express the story of the movements (the meaning of them), why are the moves there, what are you expressing actually. Let your heart dance 💗. Movements without the soul expression are ‘just’ movements. Tell the story. 💎
naming moves definitely helps me memorize a lot of choreos and also i associate a sound (like a beat or word) in the song with a move instead of counts, so i sing the song in my head with those cues and memorize the choreography really easy afterwards
I do the same! That's how I teach people as well
Yeah I do the same things
I should’ve watched this video years ago cause holy shit it’s like a cheat code
I’m def using circle twerk
If you don't post a video and tag me imma be pissed
same
@@ClaydohBoon you my friend, must be pissed as hell-
For me it helps to associate moves or counts with moods, colors, or even personalities.
For example when counting a section, I think of the move that goes on 3 three to be blue.
It’s weird and freaky but it helps a lot
❤️️🧡💚💙Learning in rainbows, love it.
maybe you have synesthesia! that's really cool that you associate it with colors.
I am auditioning for a dance team in January, so I am trying to prepare myself for my first audition ever. I'm over here tryna find ways to improve on tempo and memorization in order to pass this audition...
I'm trying to do the same too but I just have FOUR days because I found out about it late and my term exams are really near so... only God can help me now. T_T @Paige Taino This really helps, tysm!
how did it go
@@ickeymickey1586 well the studio closed down so they didn't hold any auditions... but now I'm trying out for my school's cheer team so hopefully it goes well lol
Best of luck for the future in case of any other auditions then, mate!
I'm going to try this today in my Masterclass, I'll update on how it went
Edit : IT WORKS. I'VE NEVER BEEN THIS HAPPY!

Thank you for these tips; I am doing a Bollywood group dance, and I do not know much Hindi, so my challenge is to learn the song first. I began writing the words and associating the moves with them.
Hey love the theory you guys aplied for dance. Where can I read more about this ideas on choreograpy memory.
New subscriber in the HOUSE!😅💃💃✨😊

I love you guys
Omg so usefull
Gotta love how David Slaney and Knicole Haggins make all those cool sounds when teaching!
I never thought about moves that way. All I think when I'm dancing and I do something cool, I just think "that's awesome!" And move on. Thank you for these tips.
I physically, socially and mentally needed this💀 THANK YOOOU
Thanks for this ! Can’t wait to put these tips to action. That circle twerk reference tho😂
Would you be able to do a video on how to stay on beat for those of use with dyscalculia? I can't count beats so constantly mess up what should be easy choreographies.
I make weird noises like "pow ting". "Paw paw and release" lol. Or doom and boom it just depends
I memorize the moves really fast but I forget them just as fast when I'm nervous :( Help
snugglelicious maybe getting yourself in situations that make you nervous as often as you can could help. You might find a strategy to deal with the nervousness or you could get so used to the situation that you won't get nervous :)
@@avideostarworldwillemijn8066 Thank you for the advice! :)
Totally different when dancing Latin dance for example when dancing in salsa teams is very difficult
Nice....
for me i can learn a routine pretty quickly, I had to preform a routine i had little knowledge about and to learning to whole thing in 30 minutes. my friend would go at my pace to teach me the moves and i got it.
Keep posting tutorials
Not meow tah Tah 🤣🤣🤣thank you this video was very helpful.
I remember by making sound of beats.......must try
I sometimes just have to drill sections with increasing speed (50% 75% 100%). It sucks but it works.
For me when I used to do dance (gymnastics) I used sound effects (example:wham, flabawamawapow) even make new words

Plss I have a question about Steezy's app.. Is it possible to access previous dance classes if am jst getting d app nd subscribing
Nd is it possible to like download a complete class nd save to mai phone/laptop
Take my money Steezy
The shreck reference at the end
I use lyrics to remember but I do K-pop and I’m not even close to being Korean (I don’t think) but memorize random words is that a good tactic? because i don’t know.
Right now I just learned mafia in the morning by Itzy and I have a hard time trying to remember the small details and steps and I’m stuck, my body is sore from dancing to, should i stop and rest for a while or should I continue until I get it?
Im here because im forgetting my own dance moves . Its frustrating i have to create a new move then forget it again
i make sounds when i dont understand lyrics like in korean songs, but in english i use the song lirics or sounds
I mainly focus on the words to the song if there is lyrics
I just dance together with the video slow motion and do it over and over and over again and then increase speed of the vid and do it over and over and over again all the way until the normal speed of the song
No one:
jhope: BA BA BA BABABABA BA BA 123 BABABA
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I use the good old skee ge ge
This works but now it’s hard for me to remember all the cues through the whole choreography :v
For some reason i can only do the choreography with my teacher and not by myself....like i dont actually remember the moves but instead just dance in time with my teacher 😓😓😓 how do i fix this?
You should try looking at yourself while the teacher is teaching more. Obviously when you're first learning the steps you have to look at the teacher, but when you are doing it again, make sure you focus more on yourself. I had this problem too, but I realized it's because I was depending too much on the teacher for the steps. It's hard at first to break the habit, but after a while you get used to relying on the music for your memorization instead. Good luck!
If the dance are easy, I can memorize it within 1-2 hrs?
If the dance are difficult, I can add some my own dance to match the moves
Im really good at Freestyle i could beat anyone in that category BUT when it comes down to remembering choreography i be SO LOST
Little Christy can you share me some of your tips?
I've been dancing since 2019 BTS got me into dance again, I'm so used to learning dance routines that have been choreographyed when it comes to freestyle, I just freeze I'm so anxious about freestyle. Like when I listen to a really good kpop or pop song, I can visualize me doing the moves in my head. When I'm at my dance class and if we do a freestyle circle, and it's my trun I'm just like nope I'm just like really nervous when it comes to freestyle dance
@@NinjaCat567 As someone who started with freestyling and can’t do choreos lol. I may have an advice for you that can help. I started with putting random playlist and doing whatever. Firstly don’t think about how i looks. If you have a mirror infront of you dancing that would be great. Then you will see what kind of moves you like. Don’t think about doing specific moves at first just move your body how it wants to. It would really help if u practice regularly just putting on random songs. just moving according to the rythm and beat. Overtime you will automatically start including different things styles moves etc. this will help you create idea bank of moves n and when you start freestyling you will put more and more moves and stuff. I hope it helps you. Cause i could see like my huge progress in just a month. You will feel more comfortable in a week even. Do share any tips for choreo because I am so bad at it.
I be forgetting dances so quicckkk I went to a Afro beat dance class and while learning I was doing good but then when they pulled the camera out I forgot some of the moves😭 anyways here they channel they posted the dance there DynamicDuo and video is called Nobody
Please how to learn the choreography from video fast???
Also good for musicans
Im a Main dancer to our dance group but I have problem with my hips when I do Hip moves to much it hurts after.... and the breathing I sometimes fall because I ran out of air
I am French and I really did not expect the "au revoir" XD
Everybody loves a good SKEEGEE GEE
Who doesn't enjoy the occasional SQUAANANA??
That Meow prompt XD I'm a poledance instructor and use it more than I should.
Btw, do you have advice on not being able
to settle on a song? It drives me nuts. I start choreographing and half way through I doubt if the music is right. It’s a very weird compulsion.
I *learn* choreography by videotaping my instructor doing my part and doing it exceptionally slowly in chunks until I can't do it wrong.
But I would like to learn how to get it faster *in lessons* - I suspect I'm being too analytical and not in the flow. Any ideas?
I was the same way. At the end of the day memorizing dances is a skill that you need to practice to get better
But for me I will watch the choreograopher do it once, then repeat it over and over til it’s muscle memory, then connect it with the 8 count before
Is dancing today more about memorizing choreography?
I have to use numbers for cheer and tryouts are tmrw and I still can’t memorize it omg
2 weeks ago i forgot my dance- Im in junior jazz lol
I make a story telling 😂 each move is associated with situations “i left” “ i closed the door” or with who am i “a bird” “dolphin”
Whenever i am free and doing nothing , i usually memorize the hand movements by playing music in my mind and create weird sounds 🤣🤣
I associate the moves with some beats of the song, or I will just be like "tun tun ppapapa ssshuuuum PA!"
Pls tell how to learn new face dance pls anyone
As an Ori tahitian dancer *Nods in circle twerk*
My biggest nightmare, having to memorize a dance routine for a wedding, is happening. Can't even remember cotteneye Joe so thanks for these tips. Gonna name the moves
