That kid with 10 fights had a lot of talent and heart. He wasn't fed to the lions, he was fed to the Devil.
😂😂👍

the devil does not slip punches like Duran did
This is why i love yutube .. Treasure ! I was born at the year when this took place and I'm watching it now. Thank you !
Already 66-1 at this point!!Already a future hall of famer at lightweight !Everything from this point on is whipped cream and cherry on top! Unbelievable how he moved up and competed with all time great BIGGER men when he ALREADY had a long career at lightweight! Unreal!!
EXACTLY
Crazy too cause some of his most memorable fights were when he was older, not prime, and in a bigger weight class. How you can not love Duran???
Only 5ft6 un real
In his prime 72-1. Up to the 1st leonard fight.
Good to see some of today's fans appreciate what Duran did.
Duran was a household name back then, appearing on national TV every few months - he took the fans on an amazing ride.
Not bad for an underprivileged kid from Panama.
Greatest pound for pound fighter in the history of boxing ! Simply the best ever!
Absolutely agree ! The true GOAT and its time this was accepted more !
Duran is a master fighter... I would say there are only handful boxers who r better than him such as the likes of Robinson... But as a fighter not a boxer.. I would still say Duran was on another level... His street fighting skills... His inside game is still studied and used in mma.. What a legend
You hit it. Robinson had a big reputation, but he wasn't the infighter Duran was.
Robinson could fight inside, but he didn't like to stay there for too long, & tended to hold rather than punch as the fight wore on.
Duran preferred close-range combat, but he could fight long range as well, & had great defense from every range - Duran's 3rd fight with Estaban DeJesus, which was for undisputed, was probably his best pure boxing performance.
@@kufujitsui think it's because SRR ends fights with infighting.
I've never seen a better boxer than Duran. His only real weakness was his lifestyle habits. Duran p4p should be the greatest of all time
I would agree, accept he made an amateur mistake against Tommy Hearns and paid a huge price for it.
@@kyleedward6364 He was not anywhere in shape to fight Hearns. I saw him 3 days before the fight and he had no interest in training. He called off his training session in 10 minutes. He was not ready to fight

Montreal in 1980, Duran vs Leonard, the most talent in the ring of all time. Both in the top 5 all time. In my mind Duran is the best ever, 75 and 1 at one point with 15 first round KO. Greatest chin, knocked out young world champs in there prime. Great defensive fighter. All time BADASS
Thomas Hearns: “Hold my beer.”
@@jogman262 Duran didn't train much for hearns fight. He was partying and he had a hangover during the fight. And hearns refused to give him a rematch.
@@ArmandoAlejandro2014 Duran wanted a rematch never heard that.
@@Cuauhtemoc3 Duran asked for a rematch for all his losses. SRL waited 9 years and Hearns and Hagler never gave him one. He likely would never beat Hearns tbh, but I can think a fit, trained Duran would have him in trouble at least once in the fight.
@@alphonseelric5722 Yeah, right. Duran asked for a rematch with Hearns, the guy who destroyed him. LOL. Hearns had nothing left to prove.
ROBERTO DURAN ONE OF THE GREATEST OF ALL TIMES !! This kid was tuff and he had alot of heart to go toe to toe with a LEGEND like DURAN 👊👊👊👊👊👊
Roberto Duran vs Henry Armstrong both in their primes would be my dream fight of the ages!

I love watching Duran fight. It's beautiful.
Nsubuga was really a talented boxer.
Eddy Futch did the right thing to stop the fight.
Agreed, it was a good stoppage. Nsubuga had a whole career in front of him to think about at that time. But, as it turned out he only had two major fights after this one and then retired. You have to wonder if Duran took too much out of him?
Yeh ur right the writing was on the wall he was gonna get sparked out by Duran if it had carried on don’t think he ever rearly got over this loss either some fighters rearly struggle with defeat and find it hard to come back we’ve seen it before and I think this is another one of those cases
Nsubuha (RIP) never recovered from that fight unfortunately
@@pimpompoom93726Duran sometimes snatched too much out of a young fighter, look at Davey Moore and Iran Barkley, look at Esteban De Jesus, they three fought Duran and they're never the same.
@@TheNeorch True, but DeJesus beat Duran in their first matchup, didn't he? DeJesus had a lot of talent, but I think he had health issues which ended his career early.
Durans inside fighting is just soo masterful. They way he manipulates his opponents hands to get those short devastating punches.
"Sticky hands"
That's why I love Marvin Hagler , he had Duran fighting from the outside most of the fight when they fought , 15 rounds was made for real men so good thing it was cuz the judges were about to rob Hagler of the fight before the 12th round I had Hagler winning the fight ... Total Hagler won 11 rounds to Duran's 4 ... This fight to me looked like a sparring routine for Hagler
@Robert-qm5so I loved Hagler, he'd stayed at 160 his whole career, Duran came up, before light weight, to light weight, then welterweight, light middle (154) to middle weight and fought Hagler at Hagler's weight class, even though Duran lost
That to me is a great archivement
@@raulymendezacosta6988 😆🤡😆🥱
😂 that’s the most English I ever heard Duran speak when the interviewer ask him about sugar ray leonard
...he love to hear
" Sugar Ray Leonard "
Roberto Duran is the only fighter to beat Leonard in his prime.
Ray Arcel was fantastic trainer.
Duran at lightweight was invincible. The Duran that beat Leonard in Montreal would’ve beaten any Welterweight in history.
Styles make fights though. Certain men it simply would’ve been impossible to overcome just based on style -- which included physical attributes as well.
I think even that Duran would lose to Sugar Ray Robinson.
Naw Robinson at welter is just to much especially after rehydration
I favor Hearns and SRR over him h2h but no one else. That Duran would have won the rematch as well irrespective of what style SRL employed.
I've BEEN praying for a Roberto Duran full fight and now I got it.
People pray for no war, peace, no famine and end of virus and you pray for this? A complete waste of life

Eddie Futch seems to always look out for his fighters.
@@abelesser69 anyone's entitled to have a hobby, leave the kid alone 😂
@@abelesser69 what a stupid comment to make on a boxing channel.
Duran chopped him down. He stood inside rolled off the punches and hammered down with block breaking counters. The guy was stunned he never felt that kind of power.
Why don't they put the DATE of these fights up? It's not "Jan 4 2020" for heck sakes! Duran .... simply the BEST EVER! Good thing Mayweather didn't have to fight him!
(Good thing you didn't have to fight him), and Mayweather was a kid during that time.
Duran was the greatest professional prizefighter of all time.
The Ganymede Hypothesis that’s is without a doubt a fair statement and case to make to come all the way up to middleweight and beat the best in sugar ray leonard is just amazing.
“No mas”
Top 10 greatest of all times
Manny Pacquiao and Sugar Ray Robinson
@Martin S They were carrying 140 lb copies of Ray Robinson out in wheelbarrows all during the decade of the seventies. If Robinson ever had any problem at all with Carmen Bassilio, he'd have had no shot against a 5-10 160 lb copy of Duran.
The best inside fighter ever, and top 5 all time great...
Henry Armstrong was arguably as good or better inside, but it's close.
@@jaydub2971 or Joe Frazier
@@joeygonzo I see some analysts refer to Smokin' Joe as more of a pressure fighter than an inside fighter. Granted, some don't separate those into distinct styles. Frazier was definitely one of the best.
@@jaydub2971 Julio Cesar Chavez was the best inside fighter I’ve seen
@@joeygonzo I would disagree. Aside from the Left Hook what punch cound you say Frazier throws with better technique than Roberto Duran? thank you for posting. I never saw this fight. That African kid was a gamer
One of Uganda's best boxer ever
Yeah that kid was tough as nails!! he was going in there against a prime all-time great!!!! huge respect
Really good fighters out of Uganda at the time. Must of had a strong amateur program. Ayub Kalule, Cornelius Boza Edwards and others.
Nsubuga was too tough for his own good. Manager made the right choice to protect his fighter.
The manager was arguing to send him out there. It was the trainer and the ref that had the fight stopped.
@@dondajulah4168 The manager wanted to leave it up to his fighter.
Eddie Futch seems to always look out for his fighters.
Durán is my idol but that was clearly a mismatch! 66-1 & 11-1.
Duran is the real raging bull destroys every fighter he is up against
Nsubuga only fought two more fights after. His last fight was a TKO loss in the first round to Davey Moore in 1981. Moore would go on to lose to Duran in 1983.
Really! I didn’t know that 👍 I’m going search for it
Nsubuga has shown a lot of heart against The Great Duran. Even though he was overly matched.
Nsubuga showed he had a lot of heart & with only 11 fights, showed he had a lot of potential but in the end the power of Duran was too much. After scoring all 4 rounds I had the fight at 40 to 36 for Duran. I scored the 2nd round a 10-10 round cuz I thought they both looked great & neither was able to steal the round or out work the other.
That kid till this day, he proudly talks about losing to the Great Duran..
He’s been dead for years.
Wish hearns would have fought this duran

Duran had Hands of Stone and the fierceness of Mike Tyson. All wrapped up into one fighter!
Yup, when he punched to the body it was like he was trying to punch threw you. Opponents had to feel afterwards like they were rolled up on by a gang when they fought Duran.

Tune up for Leonard/opportunity to enter the big leagues. At the time, it was thought that Duran couldn't KO/TKO a bigger welterweight, as he had not accomplished as such to that point.

Simply the best! Fought 4 or 5 fights after he should have retired,I Sneakiast puncher there has ever been!!
Either I'm getting old are boxing use to be awesome.

Great fight right there by stone hands Duran
Great fight
Duran is one of a kind.
If Duran had better discipline, cleaner lifestyle and control over his weight he would be the best p4p boxer that ever lived. That KO by Hearns would not have happened, or the running out of gas against younger prospects to points defeat. He would have whupped every opponent that crossed his path, everyone!
Great, yes, but not p4p all time. Duran could be outboxed and frustrated by an elite guy like Ray Leonard. I think this would have been true even if Duran had maximized his skills. Then we have the Hagler fight... I don't know that anybody was going to whip Hagler, who was as tough as Duran.
@@presence5426 I don't think Duran should have competed above 147 lbs, except go against maybe a Davey Moore, and then Hagler. A quick 150 lb Duran in perhaps 1981 may have been able to outbox and outwork Hagler IMO. As it was, he negated many of a prime Hagler's usually overwhelming strengths in 1983, and it was actually close on the scorecards. He had a great defense. He literally could have retired with perhaps 2 losses, 5 world titles, and never having been stopped.
@@presence5426 naw he would kill Leonard at lightweight his legs were gone by this point man
@@yourdedcat-qr7ln Well, Leonard never fought at lightweight in the pros. Duran lost to Esteban DeJesus at lightweight, so he was beatable. Leonard could outbox just about anybody if he wanted to.

I'm against the rule about calling a TKO on the 4th round.
In my opinion , round 4 is over, and if the fighter does not comes out for the 5th , then referee, after the bell sounds for round 5th , and the fighter does not comes out to fight , then the referee goes to the mandatory 8 count and no response from the fighter , should be declared en TKO on the 5th.
Excellent fight for both men.
Nsubuga only made $10,000
SON of Apollo that’s probably the biggest purse he ever made in his career. He only had a few more fights with his last fight a first round knockout loss to Davey Moore.

SON of Apollo i10k 1980 is 30k today so I guess it still is an insult lol
Agnus Dei I absolutely agree with you. I will say with Davey Moore, it was probably his best option because he never would have close to making the $500.000 that he got for fighting Duran. He would have lost to a number of the top contenders for a lot less money.
They real manos de piedra, the Best version of Roberto Duran
Duran in the ring is something to see. The way he came inside and set up his punches using his shoulders, head and all.
6:04 what a fuckin dog duran was, checking out the ring girl during the break
Yeah Duran loved 3 things in life. Partying, fighting & women.
Where's the crime???
If Duran would of gone after Cueuvas first instead of SRL, he may have had more parity w/ the purse. However, he might not have had the fire to do what he did, considering how close the fight turned out. I believe Duran felt insulted by the huge discrepancy(Duran was a star in his own right) and wanted to prove he was the better man. Did anyone else catch Larry Holmes sitting next to Don King?

Nsubuga was sooo tough, Duran retired an amazing boxer.
Joszef, wherever you are: Nambari Moja Kaka!!!
I have debated the fact that Duran was on the very short list of greatest fighters I ever saw. When motivated he was a masterful boxer especially difficult to hit and that fact gets overlooked often. I always thought Carlos Monzon was the same but on a lot lesser scale. His two fights with Rodrigo Valdez were epic
Carlos Monzon was the greatest fighter who ever lived. His dominance in his weight class over such a long time span without a loss is unparalleled in the modern era of boxing. He didn’t even lose that many rounds when he was champion.
@@davidbrandel1311 Sugar Ray Robinson as a Welterweight never lost to a Welterweight. His only loss was to a Middleweight who he would end up beating 5 times out of 6. I think that level of dominance has Monzon beat.
@@combatsportlover6919 All of Monzon’s fights look the same. Constantly pumping his jab, using his superior strength to tie his opponents when they got in close, and using his fast feet to get just out of range of his opponents’ punches was good enough to beat the likes of Griffith, Valdes, Benvenuti, and Briscoe, who were four of the greatest middleweights ever. I honestly don’t see what Robinson, or for that matter, Marvin Hagler, would have done differently. Monzon would have used the same basic fight plan, and it would have given Robinson and Hagler fits.
