I was making a tail so I decided to film it. Windows Live movie maker kept freaking out so i had to redo a ton of stuff. If you don't understand anything in the vide, just ask. Hope you like it! :D
so is the mono-fin removable?
Yea the monofin is removable. It's just put in the top.
what kind of fabric is that?
It's swimsuit material. lycra, spandex material.
Where did you get the fabric?
I got it at a place called Gstreet fabrics
Can you swim in it?
Yes

That is a really cool tail and it looks professionally made. This is the only video I've been able to find that A) teaches you to make a realistic looking tail, B) is an attainable project and C) gives understandable instructions.
I love how close the mermaid community is! When I told my friends that I was making a mermaid tail they thought it to be a little strange. so I guess it's nice to know, that there are others out there like me.

This video has really helped me. instead of spending thousands of dollars on trying to make my first tail and end up with an error and the whole tail messing up and waisting all that money, i can do this instead to practice a couple first! thanks! i subscriced. :)

What people writting buy the mermaid tail is so kool,love your viedo helped alot
With performance spandex/bathing suit fabric, you should use a zigzag stitch to allow for stretch...a straight stitch will break the threads! Also, use a ballpoint needle for sewing the knit fabric, so you don't get runs in the knit. Otherwise, great tutorial! - PearlieMae

G Street fabrics has wonderful materials! I turned the sound off because it was distracting. But your titles and sewing skills are terrific!
I'm thinking you might be able to recycle paddle boards and shape them for the monofin.
Inspiring to watch! I made a "land" mermaid outfit a few years ago, which I still have. For next year's warm weather, I'll definitely have to make a water compatible mermaid tail!

I've always been obsessed with mermaids! I bought my monofin last year and i fell deeper in love with mermaids! Since i'm still young and i don't have the money for a latex or silicone tail yet i wanted to make a spandex one. I just have one question Do the chemicals in pools affect the fabric at all? Great video and i love the pattern you chose for this tail! IT looks great!

Very good video, though I would suggest using a different color for your words in your tutorial. I had a hard time reading them at sometimes because they blended in with your material. Try a contrasting color, like white. I know it is a bland color, but is very readable.
Thank you for a very enjoyable tutorial. Now I am off to order a mono fin and get some material from JoAnn's. Also for your waste band, do you use the stretch setting on your machine? it lets he thread stretch with you.

there actually is a finis mermaid monofin and its pink and has a tail shape so then it could help u a bit witth shaping the tail

You can also put a hanger at the top of the fin, so you don't see dangling parts or it is easier to swim.
Wow i bet you could make 5 different tails in 2 weeks or under that even. Lol I know the vid was sped up still love this video. It will come to good use when i start making my tail thanks for posting =).
This is a great tutorial! Too bad I shuck at sewing... or anything having to do with fluffing FABRIC XD One question though; How the heck did you get the monofin into the tail??? Is that fabric really that stretchy???
you can cut the monofin in the form of the tail that's how you prevent the tail for lose end pieces
it's just cut them with scissors
i did this too and it worked a lot

because it's spandex fabric it expands so you put the monofin on your feet and then you put the tail on or you put the monofin in when the tail is finished and you leave it there

Wow ! I am making one of these and i don't have a mono fin so i made one on my own completely all i need is to sew it so my question for u is that do have to use a sewing machine ?

i love your tail and the fabric that you use and ur show and i asked u a question before about how to put in a monofin into the tail and i just wanna ask if how do you put it in because mine is just to fins taped together and the last tail i made with that monofin was ripping while i put it in so i have a question on that
I strongly agree with MermaidCaitey. If you use a piece of cardboard, if you swim in it, there may be very small holes and some water could get in and make the board all soggy. It also isn't as stable as a monofin and can't propell in the water good enough. So, yeah. Stick to a monofin. :)
I loved the video is it swimmable if u used metallic spandex and I made my own monofin how do u put it inside the tail
