  • Soleil talks about her new deeply personal coming of age Hulu documentary Kid 90, videotaping everything in her life after “Punky Brewster” ended, Sean Penn encouraging her to make this documentary, being friends with every kid actor from the 90s, digging up hundreds of hours of footage of all of them hanging out together before social media existed, having a big crush on Mark Wahlberg, Will Smith and many others, and doing a new reboot of “Punky Brewster.”

I remember getting her autograph at a Lucky's store in Glendale,CA while Punky Brewster was on the air. One of my friends came to my house shouting Punky Brewster is at Lucky's! There was like 6 of us running to the store and she was walking out with I believe might have been her mother and another boy. We were all excited and she took the time to give us her autograph. It was a great childhood memory.

Kids today sure don't know how to socialize like we did when we were younger in the 80's and 90's. I was always out in the neighborhood hanging out with friends a mile or so away and I manage to get home safe. I think with the Internet and how we view society today, we've basically created this way of living/socializing for our kids. We're constantly fearful of our kids being targeted by strange people that we feel it is safer to be helicopter parents. I miss my latch-key kid days, that's for sure

Thanks to Soleil, I reached out to a couple of childhood friends. We’ve reunited and its a life changing experience! Gen X was an amazing time to grow up in! I've just seen the docmentary, and I found it so beautiful, and to be honest, Soleil did this job with so much love to honour those who aren't between us like Jonathan Brandis. Regarding Kid 90 as a documentary, it's basically traveling from your past to your present, for later you realize all you've done so far despite the successes and failures especially, when you are a young star like the own Soleil during the 90's.

You lost me at the "Reboot of Punky" Hang it up! Why spoil something that made sense as a kid? Through this Doc you've proven you can make other opportunities for yourself. Holding on to opportunities from 30 years ago is just sad. Your better then that
