Great story! I left in the early 90's when I was 17 and never looked back until last year when I saw something here on the tube from Chris Stuckman movie critic and told his story and that blew me away because I thought I was only person on planet earth that experienced the jw life etc. and then all the videos came rolling in and I binged and watched exjw stuff for a year none stuff and it felt good I wasn't alone but I had bottled up all that stuff from 1993 to 2020 and now to actually talk about and listen to stories felt great and sad at the same time. I've felt mad, sad, insane, robbed, dupped, angry, etc. and right when I thought I was done with the jw's and the more videos keep coming so I just decided to stick around and listen to these stories. Funny but I will always have the jw in my life because I was raised in it and even though I'm done with it, the mental and emotional scars are with me forever so I still listen. Just like an ex marine tells us it is always with them and never goes away of course ex marines have good stuff.

Whether people know it or not, EVERYONE who is a JW lives a double life. Nobody can live up to the insane standards they demand 24/7. I was raised in the Borg, spent 18 years in it and my family is still there. They are all just good actors. That is a prerequisite for being a long time JW….must be able to win an Oscar for best performance in a drama.
Like I have said before if this cult didn't want to be part of the world they should have started their own colony like the Amish . I myself grew up in this cult I totally relate to his story and now I'm 65 I have no good memories of school or church or family for that matter ,my Dad wasn't part of it and before my mom was brainwashed they went to church together so I blame this cult for all the division in my life period ,am I bitter yes

I feel the term double life was weaponized and used to guilt witnesses, especially children. I lived my life as a normal child as much as I could while at school which was my saving grace, and I refuse to buy into their lingo and call that leading a double life.
I'm glad you have a strong sister; it is ridiculous for someone not to be your friend anymore over different religious beliefs. It is like not being friends with someone because they are a different culture than yours. Or you won't be their friend any longer because you find out they are of mix of cultures.
The reason why the Watchtower hates masterbation so much is that at Bethel they were having problems with sticky pillows, ....the pillow cases were sticking to the fingers of the laundry workers. Justin Porter ex jw ❤️
In the 80s the JWs did nothing for kids at a California Kingdom Hall I attended with my mom. You had to sit quietly in the congregation while people preached. I was highly chastised one time for saying one word.
Every one eventually has to live a double life. For me it was how am I gonna shun my family so I didnt really shun them. Not fully except one but I actually shunned that person for beating me up and didn't feel badly . But I could not shun my brothers.
