I own the 105/3 since 1990, in 2003 the foam surrounds of the woofers where gone, Transtec (Kef import service) arranged on specs replacement woofers, now 18 years later these foamsurronds are stil healthy.. , one thing are the Ferrofluid issues with the NT25's tweeters, I replaced the original NT25 (SP1240) tweeters for the SP1353 version, (note: the SP1240/NT25 units did not survive the ferro-fluid refill action, so i hunted ebay for the SP1353 replacement's, these came out KEF Cemter 100 ) and today, my R105'3 speakers still sound great ....
The Kef 105/3 have woofers with foam surrounds on the inside, you can replace them, it can be done. You may have to find a expert. It is steange that they changed the disgn so mutch from the 105/1 to 105/3.
I am a Kef lover. I would say. Try to score the Kef Reference Model 4.2. Really recommended. Needs good reinforcement. Toppie 👍 The beautiful Kef you show are definitely worth buying. Need good reinforcement.🤛

I have been listening for a long time now with AMP AVM GUNTERMANIA MONOBLOCKS which are heavy and have spring power and reserve. Always good to have a lot of power. Regardless of which speakers. And if you just love the Kef sound, then you know what the old Kef speakers can do. Of course, the setup and your listening room must be optimal. That is the most important.✌😘✌👍👌
After I heard "Stereo review X" talking about those 105 1, I don't think you are gonna like them, they are not ported and the twitter kind of harsh. LOL. If you know somebody that can replace the foam of those Kef 105 series 3, and you know they sound great, those are better deal if they don't charge you much.
A few weeks ago i have seen a video of the kef 105/3 refoaming. It is not dificult job to get them out and refoam them but it takes some time and skills. Maybe the seller does not have the nowledge or skills
Christian , thank you for the app you send me about these 105's, thx to you i was inspired to make this video but......watching a "how to " video always look simple but when you are going to do it....remember when i was busy to redecorate my house and my friend told me he could cut the carpet....he watched a few video's how to cut carpet, it was very simple looking how these carpet cutters show you on youtube but when you ore I going to cut that carpet you will spoil it.
@@vintagestereo I acquired a pair of 105/3 about a year ago. I love them due to they are a 4-way design instead of 3-way. The mid-range is definitely fuller especially when you listen to vocal, you will for sure appreciate it. In terms of maintenance, I have replaced the donuts and surrounds for the woofers and also the ferrofluid replaced for the tweeters (NT25 SP1240). Replacing he donuts and surrounds are easy. You just need to be patient in removing the woofers from the cabinets. But replacing the ferrofluid needs to be very careful and requires some skills. NT25 SP1240 is more fragile than NT25 SP1353 and likely get damaged if you are not careful. However, after all the maintenance are done (especially the ferrofluid replacement), the sound of 105/3 is incredible. It's well worth the efforts. I compare them with 107 and the mid-range is fuller on 105/3 but the lows are deeper on 107. If you can get a good deal on 105/3, I would recommend them. BTW, I am using McIntosh MC2300 (300W x 2) power amplifier to push them.
Yeah they're a bit dull at the top end upper mid-range they need work on the cross over design the fuses need to be removed and the tweeter needs to be changed for a scan speak otherwise quite good
105 are killer. I once saw them, when i was at a sellers house in Düsseldorf, picking up something else, used. I want to own them some day. Dont they have a red led in the front, Andrew?
Get the original 105. It's what you like visually. Otherwise, get a repair quote for the reforming. It might not be as much as you think. If you bought an old Ferrari for cheap, I'm sure you would find a way to get the dented fender fixed!🤔😉🤓
Denk niet dat de kef 105 jou in de smaak valt, als ik jou hoor praten over subwoofers. Het zijn geen boomboxen al zou je dat zo denken, ze zijn sterk gefilterd om een zo homogeen mogelijk geluid te geven, met zo min mogelijke kleuring, perfecte detaillering en kanaalscheiding, elke slechte opname valt door de mand. En hebben daarbij ook een laag af filtering i.v.m. draaitafels, wat vroeger de hoofmoot was, en de bas extra belemmerd. Ik heb ze zelf in een eigenlijk te kleine huiskamer, met een ook niet echt geschikte surround Denon AVR 4810, moet mijn Luxman er ooit nog op uitproberen, hebben een potige versterker nodig. Waren ooit de monitors van de abbey road studio's . Denk dat de andere speakers de kef Calinda's zijn.
wat me opvalt aan die calinda's is dat bovenrandje.. als ik afbeeldingen op google bekijk zie je ze eigenlijk bijna altijd zonder dat bovenrandje, zijn er verschillende uitvoeringen geweest of is dat bovenrandje er later bijgemaakt?
I can't see what the deal is with those speakers while viewing on my phone, so I'll check them out later with a larger screen. However, if it is just the foam surround, that is a much easier repair than an actual recone or any repair that involves the spider. Got a look at the PDF of the 105/3. At first glance, it would seem relatively easy to fix, however, deeper inspection makes it seem that the construction of the box itself is rather maintenance averse. That is, the box for the woofers doesn't have a readily apparent access to service them. So I would agree with you at this point in time that it would be difficult. If anyone else has an insight on them, it would be greatly appreciated.
ik denk dat de b&w's beter klinken. De prijs is altijd een goede graadmeter hoe goed speakers zijn, de b&w's zijn rond de 1100/1200. die 105.3 zijn wel goed geprijsd met 400 maar ik durf het niet aan
Klopt op fie B&W kun je wel 800 euro winst maken, mits ze het perfect doen. Had ze graag gehoord op jou Advance versterker. Volgens diverse berichten welke ik heb gelezen schijnt het een goede match te zijn.
Het mooiste zou zijn de Heco versus de B&W op de advance. Ben benieuwd wie gaat winnen. Qua prijsklasse als je naar leeftijden kijkt liggen ze niet zover uitelkaar

the 105/3 is in much the same design as the 4.2, 4 way, 6 speakers......
This is the kind of thing that you have to go there with an expert to check them out. You never know what is wrong with these speakers.

@@vintagestereo Bovenrandje was me niet opgevallen, zijn dan denk ik geen Calinda's, kasten lijken wel op een grote uitvoering van de B&W DM2a.
