The Chet argument for ROTY was never even an argument in my book. He's 2 years older than Wemby and is from Paolo Banchero's draft class. If he's gonna get ROTY, he shouldn't even be in a discussion with someone 2 years younger than him. The fact Chet even has to make a case against Wemby tells me he's not the best rookie. That's like being held back 2 years in school and being neck and neck with the smartest kid in your new class. That doesn't merit an award.

Starting off by saying Wemby is my favorite and I'm not a big chet fan. With that being said, the Chet not deserving it because he got drafted the year before is BS. Did he get some advantages off it? Yes, but it doesn't discredit the fact that he's a rookie and he's eligible for the award.
Why does no one talk about victors passing. The turnovers have to improve but if you watch the game his iq, court vision, and playmaking ability are top 5 amongst centers right now.

The stretch they got to the all star performance is statistically easy. Anyway, in my opinion If you are the reason your team isn't the 15th team, but instead 8th with a close call of being a lot higher up, I think you have a clear cut Most valuable player. I don't get how RJ can say Chet has more pressure. Opponents are going at Wemby's throat and I don't see them playing Chet like that. All I see from Chet is wide open 3's or a pump fake and drive. His teammates make the game so much easier for him. There's no pressure for him to score because his teammates can put up big numbers. He is free to just stand on the 3pt line and wait for a kick.

He's a terrible defender in spite of some improvement on that end this year. I'd put him him in the bottom 10% of defenders in the league. Hard to win an MVP is you aren't at least a net neutral defensively. Jokic is a slightly above average defender, Shai and Giannis are excellent defenders. That end of the floor counts too.

They have to adapt and learn the game. An individual award has nothing to do with team success. The only exception is MVP, because you expect the best player contribute to winning. If you play 20+ minutes every game and your team is above 0.500, then you are a good player. Otherwise, you aren't so good. Farming stats while being at the bottom of the league doesn't mean anything. Wembanyama's stats don't translate to anything important. He can keep blocking the whole league, it doesn't matter if the result is a loss.

It's high variance and we can see that with the standings shifting pretty frequently. Jokic's playoff run was so completely dominant and so recent, and so many voters regretted not giving him MVP last year, that he's going to have huge sympathy among voters this time around. Playoff stuff shouldn't influence MVP votes but of course it does. Jokic didn't get it last year because he didn't have a chip. Another factor working against Giannis is that he scores almost exclusively at the rim and isn't viewed as an especially skilled offensive player. Most analysts now view Jokic as one of the 2 or 3 most skilled offensive bigs ever. Fair or not, those are tough obstacles for Giannis to overcome.

Giannis is still in his prime averaging superstar numbers and being the best player on his team with no doubt in that regard and the Milwaukee Bucks having one of the best record in their conference. No. A player being drafted on a particular year doesn't mean he's playing on the same year.
The Admiral served in the military for a few years after he was drafted and that's why he was already 27(?) years old when he finally started playing.
Same with Manu Ginobili, he was played a few years later after being drafted because he was playing overseas.

It’s pretty much going to come down to seeding on who will win MVP. If the Nuggets get a top 3 seed it will be hard to not give Jokic another MVP but if Luka leads the Mavs to a top 5 seed or SGA leads the Thunder to a top 2 seed they both will have a deserving case over him.
