We have to hand it to Mrs Lori... She gave us one of the most decadent recipes ever...Elvis cake....then gave us a delicious, nutritious, low cal soup recipe to balance things out! Momma always said everything comes out on the wash...I reckon this makes perfect sense! 😉😊
Your giggle when you mention Elvis (at the beginning) is completely understandable for another gal who crushed on him too!
My brother would eat his desert first, he said " You never know when the Lord will come, so I eat desert first." Thank you for your sweet spirit, God bless. 😊
Me too, Love Dolly, Elvis and Loretta Lynn. Thank you hon for sharing!
I also love, love, love both Dolly Parton and Elvis! Great recipes! Thank you so so much! Your recipes are a balm to the soul during this awful time we are enduring right now! Blessings galore to you and Mr. Brown!💙🙏🏻🕊
I just LOVE your channel! So glad you are here, such a refreshing change and a joy to watch. Thank you!
Ms. Lori, Elvis Presley, I was raised on his music 🎵🎵 I Love him to this day!! Ms. Dolly is something else to!! She is great!!
And may I say you and Mr.Brown are toooo cute 🥰
I love the old country music and Elvis music
I remember this diet from years ago. It was simply called the Cabbage Soup Diet and eating the soup was unlimited on any day of the diet. There are so very few calories in this soup you could actually eat the whole pot and loose weight. I remember the soup was delicious!
I remember this soup from the 70's, and it was called Peal A Pound Soup, and it did work at weight loss. Think I'll make a big pot as it freezes nice.
Yes, all you want of the soup.
Yes, Danielle, I believe you’re right on with the name of the soup and the unlimited quantity. I remember this miracle fad weight loss soup/diet, but what I don’t remember was ever losing as much weight as I thought I should have !!!
Lol 😂😂😂😂😂
My Mom in law called it starvation soup.
@@krisheathman9053 Did you top it off with a huge slice of Elvis Presley cake?
Ms Lori and Mr Brown are good people. I love watching their videos,it's like going home.
These are the kind of people you want for neighbors!
@@lisaspikes4291 i totally agree.
Love me some Elvis and Dolly too! Beautiful and caring souls. That’s above and beyond having two recipes named after them! Going to make them both. 😊
My mom used this diet years back & it worked! On the days it says eat till your stuffed then do that because these days are calorie burning days. Meat & potato days are for building up carbs & protein's to keep going with this diet! :)
Lori, you are such a wonderful cook. Thank you for the blessings you bring to us. The soup and cake both look fantastically delicious.
I fondly remember this cabbage diet soup and I remember loosing weight on it. The Elvis cake looks so delicious! Since you made such a yummy supper maybe Mr Brown will put on his blue suede shoes and take you dancing.💃😀 Have a wonderful weekend! 🌻🦋🌻
I didn't do the Cabbage Soup Diet since I couldn't eat more than 1/2 cup at a time . I can did make a cabbage veggie soup with tomato 🍅 and ha hamburger. You get the it started with all the ingredients and let. it stew on low heat for an hour.. I also added to some rice, so it was kinda unstuffed cabbage soup. I always made cornbread with it. I was making super healthy meals for my Mom and sons.
Did y'all know in Benton Arkansas there is a preacher believed to be Elvis. He goes by Pastor Bob Joyce. This man's voice ❤❤❤❤ makes your soul dance just like Elvis! My momma raised me on Elvis. Lol.
Miss Lori, yesterday three of my grandkids were awarded honor roll certificates and to acknowledge their achievements I cooked them a special dinner featuring your fried chicken and Elvis cake. I am having a blast trying out your recipes, and the grandkids are asking " Is that from Miss Lori", many thanks.
Such a great day for making both recipes today. The rain has finally found us and it feels fall-ish outside.
I absolutely love your warmth, kindness and especially when hubby comes on with you. You two make me smile and we need that in today’s “problems”. Thank you for sharing your history, your skills and your life with us. May the Lord continue to bless and keep you.
I feel the same way
Well said and I totally agree with you!
I agree. I get such a warm feeling at heart just watching their videos. I'm 61 years old getting ready to turn 62 and their videos just takes me back to my childhood. Sending love and prayers to the browns and everyone else. God bless everybody
Same here. I’ve even got my hubby watching the videos with me. Great channel.
Ms Lori is such a sweet woman with a calm patience that transcends outward to us ( her pupils) as we learn her recipes, along with the processes in which to do them.
I’m so grateful to have found her channel🥰
It honestly worked when we did it 40ish yrs. ago. We ate as much soup as we wanted. It was so easy to follow. And very healthy. I did check it out with my Dr. and he said as long as we didn't do it forever it was fine. God's blessings.
I went to school with Dolly's brother. I think he was in high school for many years. I remember going to a local cafe and Dolly's grandmother was there almost every single day. She had a special seat just for her, I guess, she was always in the same spot every time we ate there, maybe she never left.!! She was tiny, very ghostly pale and had a PILE of teased jet black hair like half the size of her head. She'd smile and nod as we'd look at her, she loved the fame she got being Dolly's grannie. Dolly was just starting out when I was a kid and the whole town was so proud of her on Porter Wagner's show. We used to pretend to be Dolly doing the Breeze Laundry Detergent commercials she did with Porter on the show.
I saw Elvis once, I screamed and cried during the whole performance.
I think Mr. Brown is ready for that cake! That’s a winner, one my daddy will love for his next birthday cake!
HOLY MOLY Miss Lori! I guess you eat the Dolly Parton soup for 2 weeks before you eat the Elvis Presley cake and then for about a month afterwards!! That looks SOOO GOOD! I might make just the icing and sit down and eat it out of the bowl!
God Bless you sister Lori and brother Dan
Your videos always out a smile on my face
I used this diet back in the early 80's. The copies were passed around by the all the ladies at church. I bet I was up to 115 back then. I'd eat a live bug to weigh that again! hahahaha... It's actually a delicious soup. Thanks for posting. OH, we were told, eat as much of the soup as we wanted.
I love watching you cook I have saved everything you have cooked on here and I have made a bunch of your recipes thank you so much for sharing
All of the above,l love to hear and see all of your family, I'm always in prayer for us All. And thank you all
Thanks Lori. My husband loves cabbage. God Bless you and your family
Oh, I LOVE this soup. I ate it for a week as weight loss. Well, I have IBS & let me tell ya'll~~~I could have had a Colonoscopy after eating this! LOL.
I have Crohn's disease and this is what I'm afraid of lol. I love cabbage soo much. I wonder if there's anything you could add to make the cabbage less gassy.
@@cathypeterson3545 GINGER! I add a pinch of ginger to beans and everyone tells me mine is the only beans they’ve eaten not gassy !
@Cathy Peterson Thank you for this tip! I also have IBS, love beans, cabbage, and this tip will come in quite handy. 😊
Thank you, Elaine, I am going to try that tip, too!
@@terryt.1643 I red about baking soda but never about ginger. Good to know for all of us!
How funny! If I remember correctly you can have as much soup as you would like. Thanks for bringing back good memories. My Mom and ladies at church all did this diet!❤️
Yes, that is what I thought too. You can eat as much soup as you want.
I'll definitely try both these recipes...yummy!!!
I cant thank y'all enough...
I remember my mommy playing old 45s on the record player...singing in the kitchen Conway Twitty, Elvis, etc...
She'd do the twist and tell me that was a very popular dance ..
I miss her sooooooooooo very much!!!
Made applesauce cake tonight in honor of my mommy and you... thank you so very very very very very much...
Love y'all, everyone!!!
GOD bless each of you and your families and keep each of you and your families completely protected and safe always, Amen and Amen!!!!
Loved both recipes- you are a very blessed friend! Enjoy all your videos!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😇😇😇😇🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Dear Sister, if I weren’t headed out to eat with my daughter and granddaughter, I’d get in the kitchen and start working on this meal. I think it looks amazing
I make this at least once a week. I like to add a bit of cumin and Smokey paprika and since I like a bit of heat, sometimes I add a problano or 1/2 jalapeño pepper to a large pot of it. Yummy!
You can eat the Dolly Parton 'diet' soup then reward yourself with some Elvis Presley cake. ☺
I live in Alabama. We have great pecans and peaches.
Our county was voted as having the best peaches in the state.
We used to live on 19 acres of land. We had 3 peach trees, a plum tree, tons of blackberry/raspberry thorn bushes and a pecan tree that produced the paper shell variety. These are SO much easier to crack.
That tree saved me a lot of money when I made homemade fruitcakes for Christmas. Each recipe calls for 1 quart of chopped pecans.
My name is Diana, was born and raised first in the city Of Huntington, Wva. Then moved 10 mile out to the country, Mom and Dad bought a 10-acre farm and grew a garden every year, of course Mom Canned just like you! You remind me dearly of my Mom.
Thank you so much
I remember that diet and I don't think I ever made it all the way through before I gave up. That soup is delicious and the cornbread is a must it was the reason I never completed the diet. I have not had the Elvis cake but I bet before the weekend is up I will have made it. Thanks for sharing.
Yummy I love both of these singer's and these recipes look amazing going to try. Love you Miss Lori and that man of your too🙏♥️
You had my heart when you put in the onions, bell pepper and that wonderful garlic. I always say when you think it's enough garlic add some more. No wonder the mosquitoes leave me alone. The soup is so good and a base for about any kind of meat and veggies you want, if you're not dieting.
I do Keto to finally control diabetes type 2, but I just enjoy you and Mister. Love your kitchen too. At 79 I do not have a kitchen of my own but like to think about when I did. I ❤️🙏love what you do.
Both look so good and how fun to do recipes dedicated to classic country singers! My favorite classic country singer is George Jones…his nickname was “The Possum”. do it’s probably best he doesn’t have a dedicated recipe 😄
I love George Jones he stopped loving her today such a sad song.
@@lindaobrien2659 that’s my favorite of his songs
Hi Lori. Thanks for a couple great recipes. Wishing you good health and happiness.

Thank you Charles, Good Health and Happiness to you too!
I love all the singers too!
Ms. Lori, i never get tired of watching the love Mr Brown has for you. Y’all are the cutest couple I’ll Swanee….
I always love to see the sweet, precious interactions between Ms. Lori and Mr. Brown. #Marriagegoals. Stay safe and be happy.

Yep! Remember my momma doing this, just knew it as cabbage soup diet. She loved it and she would lay the red pepper flakes to hers. 😊🌹
Looks Delicious! Love your home! Thank you for inviting us in! God Bless!!
Any day is good for Dolly soup and you Grand mom!!!
Duncan Hines is absolutely THE BEST!!
Agreed, always so moist & delicious!
OH MY! in the late 70's my mom (who worshipped Elvis) made me eat this soup for a whole week! She was always on a diet! That soup was all we ate morning noon and night! Haha! I think I lost about 10lbs but the GAS from all that cabbage....uhhgg! This Dolly Diet was big in Iowa!
HAHAHAHA. When Dolly sang about Jolene, she should have mentioned "you're not gassy like me".
No wonder you lost weight. Relieving huge amounts of gas.
🚶💨 😄
That is why Dolly stays so small do you think she makes her husband eat it lol 😆 😂 🤣 🤔 😅 💀 😆
I love watching you can and cook sweetie.
Ms Lori. I always enjoy your videos. Whether they are devotional, gardening, canning or cooking. Each time I watch one it's like having two friends come into my living room for a warm and wonderful visit.
i remember this diet lol hadnt thought of it in a long time but i fix the soup still with corn bread. i have never used lipton soup mix but i add green beans and beef broth
In the 80s on weight watchers you could have a similar vegetable soup as much as you wanted.
It was called "Inspiration Soup". I still make it to this day. Very delicious and satisfying.
I to did this soup years ago we called it cabbage soup it works I lost 16 pounds the first week! By the 4th day the bananas were welcome if you get hungry eat the soup lol it works thanks for the reminder love your videos! You and Mr.Browns stories always bring up memories of my life so wonderful ♥️🏡♥️ God bless 🙏
You two are the sweetest couple ❤️
I actually have a little bit of cabbage, about a half a head that I was stumpped on what to do with it. Now I know! I will make about a 2-3 person soup with it, that looks so good! I can't have the cake, unfortunately way too much sugar for me, but I like cake right out of the pan too! ;) Thank you for the back story's on these dishes!
You are such a joy to have in my kitchen and the Elvis cake is just what I needed. Thank you so much.god bless💜
Wonder if the cake could be made with Stevia?
Guess what, ya'll? Try Monk Fruit sweetener. It is a mixture of Monk fruit and the Stevia plant, so it's a "natural" product. You use it 1 to 1. Tammy from Collard Valley Cooks said it tastes just like sugar. I tried it and SHE'S RIGHT. I'm diabetic and I'm using it all the time now! It comes in granulated, powdered, and brown sugar. Tammy said not to buy the brown sugar because it's not good. I sure appreciate all the ladies and gentlemen on youtube that share their knowledge with us☺
Y’all are so sweet 🥰 Looks delicious I want some right now ! Thank you!!♥️
Looks good, worth trying. Thankyou for sharing these 2 recipes.
Without thinking I'm a weirdo, I have to say I LOVE YOU BOTH!
Love you
Going to have to make this cake soon! The soup looks good too, but I was on this diet years ago...if I never have it again it will be too soon, and I love everything in it...just can't take the soup--hahah maybe in a few more years... and yes I lost weight till i went to eating regular again--lol As always---pray for those who can't... and have an awesome day!
I love a version of this soup. I don’t use the Lipton soup mix, but use my homemade chicken or beef stock instead, and add different seasonings to change up the taste. I also. love to add broccoli and bok Choy too.
looks so yummy... makes me drooling and want to eat dinner with y'all . God bless you.. 🙏
.
Mmmmm thank you both for sharing mmmm thanks God bless 💙💙👋
Ohhh my goodness, Mrs Lori! Elvis sure knew what was good!! Looks wonderful!! I had heard of the cabbage soup diet but never looked into it. Dolly's version looks really yummy! I'm going to give it a try when cooler weather hits. But ohhhh that cake!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Hugs and blessings!!
I've made this cake so many times and never had a clue it was called an Elvis cake. My grandma just used to call it pineapple sheet cake. One of my absolute favorite cakes.
I believe on the soup, you can eat as much soup as you like each day! Along with what else you have one your list.
I remember this soup, had forgotten about it, but remember it. It looks yummy-probably didn't when I was a kid, but then my mother didn't like cabbage. I do...now. Dolly, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, etc....now they were country singers! I love Elvis, still listen to him almost every day. Went to Graceland in 2019 and loved it. Loved him as a performer, but also loved the beautiful, generous person he was. Yes, he knew food after not having much food growing! He wasn't going to do without anymore nor would any of his family. That cake looks so yummy! I will definitely make both of these recipes! You and Mr. Brown are so cute, love you guys! Hugs, Brenda
I've been making cabbage soup for a really long time... It's amazing how many variations are put together by different folks... I swear you could ask 100 people for their recipe and you could do a cookbook because they would all be different somehow... Great video!
True
Hi Ms. Lori,
I feel like I know you guys and would love you to come for dinner... I love your videos and have tried many of your recipes; truly yummy! Mr. Brown is a favorite of mine as well.
I'll be making the Dolly Parton Soup (which I remember my mother trying in hopes of losing weight) and Elvis Cake for sure. They both sound wonderful.
I read in the Comments about Becky of Hillbilly Kitchen losing her husband to Covid. It made me want to urge you and Mr. Brown to get your vaccines if you haven't already had them. You are two very special people and we would surely hate to lose you! My family gets the flu vaccine every fall. I don't see why the Covid vaccine is any different. I thank the good Lord that he has sent us an effective vaccine.
Please take care and thank you for your heartwarming videos. With warmest wishes and God bless!
I'm a sub of Hillbilly Kitchen and hadn't heard, so thank you for sharing that. I read his obituary. So sad! At least we know he's in heaven, but how devastating to Becky and their family. I remember when Mr. Brown got sick.
btw Tammy from CVC said in her video that she and her husband had the vaccine, so she must have what they're calling a "break-through" infection!
My thoughts too.
Hello hope yans are doing well thanks for always shareing with us
Y’all are the sweetest couple going!!!I love your videos and watching both of you God bless both and your channel!!
Ooof....this one hurt. Brought back memories of all the diets I was forced into as a child/teen (none of which worked). I do remember my mom doing this soup a few times. I was never a fan but I bet it would be better with some ground beef in it. Will have to try it that way some time. "Are you aggravating me?" made me smile, though. You and Mr. Brown are so precious!
That soup with slices of pecan smoked venison sausage in would be awesome on a cool, autumn day! Tfs Miss Lori! 😊 🍲
Thank you, Lori!!
Miss Lori...did Dolly really make this soup and Elvis really love that cake? I don't need to lose weight but from being ill need to gain. The soup sounds great!! And any cake is a friend of mine. Bless you.❤💚🌿🕊🕊🌿🕊💚🕊❤
I remember this soup and the diet was called the Cabbage soup diet. I did do this once and did lose weight. I think I’ll be doing this again, as noting else is working right now. Lol. Thanks Lori!
I tried this soup years ago. The only problem was it gave me tremendous amount of wind (flatulent). I think I lost a lot of friends and no lbs. 🤢
Oh my goodness.
@@Nandini_1. _"it wasn't me, the dog did it"_ 🐶 .... LOL.. 😁
Soup is more filling than other foods. All that water.
Raw and cooked veggies are very filling as well. So, eating as much as we want still won't be as much as we think. Many people don't eat the recommended daily amount.
Stuffing ourselves with all those fresh fruits and veggies will probably be what we're supposed to be eating normally on a daily basis anyway.

I want to come live with you guys ,lololol .That cake is a must try.Thank you , Many Blessings 🤩
Never heard of this cake but obviously a winner.
I still have the original soup recipe from 40 years ago in my recipe binder, typed out on a typewriter & shared with other nurses I worked with at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. The soup was delicious, but we never followed the rest of the diet. It was too crazy for us! Thanks for sharing. It brought back great memories! Blessings to you 💖
Oh, my! I do love cooked cabbage. The soup looked delicious and will cook some up if/when cooler weather starts. (still 80 all day, most days). Funny, Grandma and Ma always made sheet cakes but we hardly ever got frosting. If we ate all our dinner we'd get a piece of cake with a spoon of canned fruit over for dessert. :)
Funny 80's can only wish! Lol
I’m gonna have to try the Elvis Presley cake, but I think I’ll add some coconut to the frosting.
Love your videos Mrs. Lori. Thank you so much. Would you please keep Mrs. Becky, from The Hillbilly Kitchen, in your prayers, her husband passed away. Thank you.
Dennis & I sure enjoyed this video, Lori. Especially when Danny came in and snuck a little bite of cake from ya. 😉🙂 We'll have to try makin this cake soon. Y'all have a blessed Sunday . Love yas!
🤗💋🤗
It’s an “eat all you want soup” so delicious even if you don’t want to lose weight. 😊
Correct! That was the point... you could eat as much soup as you wanted because it was low calorie, and then you would not want as much other food to fill up on.
Lori, did you hear about CVC(Tammy) having Covid-19, and Hillbilly Kitchen(Becky’s) husband passing away from COVID-19? They both need our prayers 🙏🏼
Omg I used to watch her
