Just to add what crazycanuck said with the add pins. When you add pins position for second pin you do NOT have to exit back to menu to add third and fourth pins. Not a big deal to exit back to menu but it saves a few seconds and you know that that is what you are adding without risking clicking on the wrong thing.
For Pin Placement: USGA rules state that the pin must be placed in an area where the ground is as level as possible with a uniform grade. This of course doesn't mean flat - it just means not in an area with a heavy slope where the ball will roll after coming to a stop. I'd suggest leaving a minimum of 2 yds. from any severe slope otherwise you'll have people swearing at you. As a general rule according to the PGA, the pin placement should be 12' or 4 yds from the edge of the green. And play test... play test... play test.
About to start my second course. Took me forever to finish the first and haven't jumped back into it in a while so I am coming back to this series for a refresher and some inspo! Thanks, Crazy C First course: Carlsbad Ranch
Will you eventually be doing things like adding aesthetic stuff such as roads, cartpaths, driving ranges, practice putting greens, parking lots, etc? A lot of that stuff seems to be giving me more issues that creating the playable part of the course lol.
My first real course i built in 2019 was Redwood canyon and its good but exactly like you said gotta get some practice in. My second and third(San Ramon Golf club & San Jose Muni) are amazing and pretty darn good. I like to build my home courses with a PGA twist! Stadium courses! i will be updating them to 2k21 very soon
Thank You for explaining what all the available designing options are that the game offers. I never could understand what mirror handles did. A bug I found in TGC2019, when laying down greens and then placing your pins, when trying to level your pin placement to make the pin legal, (all nine squares, the tic tac toe box around the pin are green in color), the grid pattern of the green when scuplting did not match the grid pattern when playtesting. Do you know if this bug has been fixed with the new game? I preordered the game, unfortunately, I won't get it before August 25, but I saved $10.00 on the preorder cost. Thanks again, I do appreciate the time and effort you put forth in these tutorials.
@crazycanuck1985 You mentioned tracing tools to use to create local courses. I have looked all over and cannot find anything other than google maps measuring tool. Is this what you are talking about or are there better tools that you can reference? Thanks!!!
SwingU app will give you a pretty accurate layout of almost every course you could play. My problem is I want to make a flat course then add hills and all that as I create each of my holes for my local course but that’s literally impossible
Correct me if I’m wrong, but does the top right corner not indicate in inches how much the landscape is being raised? Obviously it would be much nicer to have in the middle of the screen but it looks like the inches are working in the top right corner
Is there a way to reuse a green for multiple holes like at St. Andrews and some other links style course? I can place a pin for another hole on a green I’ve already built, but the game designer doesn’t seem to recognize the hole very well.
Is there a way to make the fringe and the fairway one distinct cut/color? Such that the fringe and fairway are the same and the fairway flows right into the green?
Great video, love the pace and tone you make awesome videos. Loving the content as I really struggled to understand TGC 2019 looking forward to purchasing this game.
Does anyone know of a way to get the long fescue look, á la Oakmont/shinnecock/ Chicago GC. It takes up so much plant space, but there’s gotta be a way to pull something like that off right
It's kind of surprising that they didn't catch that bug with the raised landscape before this game was released. Have you found any more since then? Did they say when they were going to release the patch? One question for you, when importing from the previous game, does it take into account the previous object count? The reason I ask is that a fair number of the courses I did had the object meter maxed out?
is this your typical flow? like green then fairway then tee? does it matter or is it easier one way vs another? the problem i have when trying to design courses is my vision never transfers to the course. hoping this series will help me with that.
This is my general workflow, but it really doesn't matter. I love backwards design. Start with where you want the golfer to get to, and work backwards from there!
Always wanted to use the course designer in Golf Club games. After watching you do this...I am running out to buy the game. HB Studios should give you a percentage!!! This is awesome man.
Hello, I just created my own golf course and I’m happy with how it came out!…. The only issues were the pin positions. So, I was changing the set 1 for each and every hole. But, for some reason some pins were on different holes…Example: pin of the hole number 4 on the 6th green and viceversa…also the 7th with the 8th… I tried to move the pins to their respective holes…But it doesn’t allow me to do so. Could you please explain how to solve this matter? Thanks
ive been told by people while streaming tgc a while back that greens that size are too large. it drives me absolutely nuts when ppl tell me this and yet i watch other designers do the same. just as you say it my preference on how i want me course to look. you see the games green are small, medium and large throughout the game so why cant i do the same. ive learned some people just want something to complain about. thanks for the videos though. got me back in the designing courses again.
Great videos, thanks for posting. Question, can I design a course on my PC but play it on Xbox? I struggle a bit with the navigation on Xbox in the design a course section. Feel it would be easier for me on my PC.
Been waiting on this...any suggestions on best way flatten large area? Would you use raise and lower ground as well as the sculpt Edit: 4th Page Brush! THANK YOU
I am hoping you might be able to help me. I'm freaking out now, as I have spent MANY hours creating a new course on PGA 2k21's Course Creator. I accidently deleted the pin on Hole 18. Now I have zero pins on the green. For hours, I have been going through all the options on Course Creator to create a new pin for the 18th--as there are no options to "Add Pin" when zero pins exist for a hole (which I accidently made happen by inadvertently deleting the 18th Pin). There are other Green options on the hole, but pin creation is not one of them. (You can add a pin on a hole when there is already one--but there is no option to Add Pin if one doesn't exist at all). I really don't want to delete the hole entirely--as it intersects over water, with a creation made in that body of water that affects another hole (and would also be deleted).
@@Crazycanuck1985 Well some good news, and yet a lot of not so good... I actually FOUND the pin--and it wasn't deleted! However, it is sitting just off the 2nd hole fairway. Whenever I try to move it back to hole 18, it moves itself back to the 2nd green (even though it has an 18 on the flag). So then, I tried to create a second pin for the 18th flag, and move that one to the 18th hole. When I do this, that flag on the 18th green will have the number 2 for the second hole. I can't get the one marked 18 to go where it belongs and keep that number 18. As far as deleting the 18th green, I couldn't do that by itself. I also even tried building a "new 18th green" on top of the old one, but still didn't matter. Any suggestions? And I thank you tremendously for your help... and responding so quickly!!
Love the content CC... when you get to bunkers, please could you try to create a links style bunker with a deep layered turf face. I couldn’t suss how to do it in TGC2019, so resorted to adding retaining walls and fences with long grasses to try and make them links style... also beaches I find difficult.. 👍
Unfortunately, making true pot bunkers in this game that you describe isn't possible. There are some ways of "faking it" but I'm not comfortable enough with that technique to do a tutorial on it at this time.
@@Crazycanuck1985 The grid lines show up when I created a green for hole one. The lines were not showing up on a putting green I created by the club house. Not sure if this is normal or intended but definitely not a show stopper. Does your grid lines show up even when hovering over fairway or other terrain?
@@Nate-mp4mf ah, grid lines will only show up when you are creating a hole. If you made a putting green that is just for aesthetic purposes, grid lines won't show.

How do you find courses people made and download them?
You dont need to download them. There is a search option inside the game, if you know the name, search and hit play
Go to local match and you can click on trending to see the most popular made-up courses or search for specific ones
Can you show how to do a tiered green or will it be in the 201 series or just briefly explain how?

Not necessarily, Ive been doing just fine with a controller for years.

not necessarily. It's how I like to work though.
