I've been in those tunnels and just think, you were just 10 miles away from the finest cuppaJO east of the Susquehanna! Kind Thanks WW! The Best New Year Ever! Joy of Spirit! DaveyJO
Awesome culverts/tunnels! Thanks for walking through them and letting us see the amazing craftsmanship. Not sure I'd be able to reach them. I'm short so hiking down steep inclines is sometimes literally done on my butt. Then there's the problem of getting back up said inclines. Gets kinda comical at times. 😂
That was sooo fantastic. Those tunnels were all fantastic the stone and brickwork was stupendous. Loved all tunnels but that last one is my fave. It’s true it is very much like the mines of Moria. My fave book. Thank you so much for taking me along and please stay safe and take care
Great video, Cliff. Thanks for sharing. All of the tunnels were nice but I also like the last one the most. The masonry is so impressive. It looks in near perfect shape after many years. My one grandfather and his father were masons. The trail is inviting with its good condition and spectacular views of the mountains and river. It looks like waterproof shoes or boots are a necessity for going through the tunnels. We'll check the trail out at some point. Have a great Christmas.
Hey bud!! Nice to see home! I live near here(Harrisburg) and yes folks it's darn near like this ALL.over!! Love it! Grew up in Pittsburgh but moved here 30yrs ago and instantly fell in love with central Pa!! Never left.
I live right in this area. At the library in Lancaster, I read that they brought in Italian stone masons specifically for the stonework on the lower and upper rail, there were some really cool photos of the men building the RR and bridges!
If you get a chance check out the Muddy Run culvert to the south. It's steep, old school construction with waterfalls and cascades for about 75 feet. Some cool calcite formations coming out of the masonry too.
Has nothing to do with the cool site you were at but when I first saw "The Hall Of The Mountain King" it immediately brought to mind an old Savatage song that I hadn't heard in years lol. Thanks for that AND the cool views in this video :D
Amazing Cliff!! Loved all the tunnels. I think the one with the drop off & the 2 little twin tunnels are my faves!! Thank you for taking me through the 2 smaller ones not quite sure I could have walked through those by myself. Loved all the stone brick work, & the lil waterfalls inside. Sorry you fell.😘 Thanks for this awesome explore!! Very enjoyable❣🥰
Hey Cliff if you go to Pequea on Martic Forge Rd to the red hill rd parking lot of the enola low grade and hike south toward quarryville about a quarter mile there are on the right you will see a stream and if you look over you will see some railroad ties there are another set of twin culverts but I must warn you im 5'6" and I had to do a lot of stooping in those too this infor is also on UnchartedLancaster sie
Hi Cliff, my favourite was the second one because of the drop and the waterfall plus just the whole look of it. I thought the lighting was okay, we could see all of the features in the brick/stonework and also the path through so don't worry it was fine. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx💖
Interesting place to visit these culverts, I agree with you the first and forth were the best. The stone and brick construction reminds me of ancient castles from a old novel. Thank you
Great vid as usual Cliff!! Should have shown end of 3rd one. 4th one very cool.1st one my fave. 2nd one was unusual. You should see how much water runs through these after a heavy rain. Pay attention to the echo...i went through a stone culvert in Ashland and half way through i noticed no echo and the rocks had big gaps between them. Scarry stuff!! B safe!😁👍
You brought back memories of seeing trains on the low Grade as a kid in the 50s. The area along the Susquehanna in So. Lanc Co is known as the river hills. Use to take a ride in late Oct from my home in Perryville Md up the east side of the river to Columbia and cross over to York Co and come back down the west side of the river. A good view of the river is at the Pinnacle north of Holtwood Dam.
I hope to find out which I like best in person when I'm back in PA this summer, I've seen videos and read about the tunnels, but this video gives the best information on how to find the trail. Thanks. Incidentally I have been chased off live tracks twice already. Do I know it's trespassing and against the law? Yes. Would I do it again? I don't know. I also loved to see the light of day at the end of a caving expedition.
Cant wait til they finally connect both parts of the Enola Low Grade Trail they finally got some financial support from some businesses and the Lancaster Conservancy as well as a grant from the State it should be done in the next year or 2 depending on Covid19 Im sorry but I wished they would have caught the thoughtless person that burned the deck of the other one I was planning on riding that section a week or 2 later im glad they are putting a concrete deck n this one and they trying to secure more funding to restore the other one too
Thank you for sharing your adventures I can hear how much enjoyment you have doing this explore. I like the twin tunnels the most. Very enjoyable. Like the YAPPIN stay safe.🧝♂️🧚♂️🧟♂️🧝♀️🧚♀️🧟♀️
Another awesome vid Cliff...As you can imagine, I am a fellow science teacher so really, really appreciate all that you do...I agree, the first culverts were my fav as well. Just seemed more .... Mystical some how...Like you had a choice or path to take that would determine your destiny!!!
AT LEAST NO KIDS FOUND THE TUNNEL FOR SPPRAY PAINTING WHICH IS NICE. BEAUTIFUL STONE. WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A HOUSE OUT OF TTHAT STONE. GRREAT FIND. YES I LIKED THE FIEST ONE, BUT REALLY THEY ALL ARE GREAT. GREAT DESIGN ON THE TUNNELS.
I am surprised at how clean the tunnels are. I would have thought they might be filled with debris from heavy rains. Very interesting. I most likely would not have done the first set. A bit too small and close for me :>).
The Safe Harbor Dam is an amazing site to see. The video doesn't do it justice on how big it is. I highly recommend anyone who has time to visit that area.
What would be the advantage of having two tunnels, rather than one larger one? It seems it would have been more work and more materials to make the double culvert. I did like that first one best. I was very close to that not long ago, but didn't know it was there.
Numbers on top direct you to the certain number, which needs cleaning, repairs or unblocked. Many people were drowned unblocking them either during or after a rainstorm,.
excellent exploration video...same tunnel building techniques & materials as the imploded Williamstown Tunnel & mine drainage main tunnels (Big Lick, Bear Gap, Jeddo (near Hazelton), etc; the constant toxic acid drainage from mine tunnels & boreholes leaves a nasty scar on the land...sorry, personal rant
I was down there this summer and filmed but my sd card got corrupted and wasnt able to post these on my facebook page so i will be going back in the spring or summer of 2021
Sounds like something I’d do. Forget to charge up a light or some other battery. Going through old passageways or tunnels is a little unnerving for me. I’ve only done it a handful of times. Just something about it
Be careful going in caves and underground structures, etc. There may be bat drippings in there that can cause fatal respiratory illness. If you must explore these areas, use as respirator-type mask. A friend's father went spelunking and contracted a rare respiratory illness from bat droppings. He was comatose ad nearly dead before a doctors on a hunch asked the family if he had been in any caves recently. When it was confirmed, then they were able to give him treatment for the presence of those droppings that were destroying his lungs. But because this is rare and doctors don't see these types of illnesses often, one could die before doctors figure out what is happening.
Watch out NOTHING jumps out at you like a raccoon . Now that sounds like a natural spring water just be safe and careful ok wow a little bit loud with water in it wow a babbling brooke
The numbers at 7:26 are mile post markers for the rail road.
Omg !!! I’m a Hugh 66 yr old J.R.R. Tolkien fan ! This place is incredible
This video made my HEART RATE GO UP !!!! Your so brave !!! Very exciting 🍄
An amazing amount of labor went into building these culverts! Thank you for taking us along on this adventure, Cliff.
Those were super cool. The first one was the best. Thanks for sharing.
Incredible craftsmanship. That trade seems long gone.
"in the hall of the mountain king" is a reference to a musical piece by Edvard Grieg. It is part of Peer Gynt.
Hiked all four culverts today with the family. Thanks for the video
Awesome
We did at least ten of your adventures so far!
I've been in those tunnels and just think, you were just 10 miles away from the finest cuppaJO east of the Susquehanna! Kind Thanks WW! The Best New Year Ever! Joy of Spirit! DaveyJO
Very good video, CLIFF ! NICE TUNNELS !!! PENNSYLVANIA IS SO BEAUTIFUL, NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO HIKING ! JUST LOVED IT !
Last tunnel was nice !!!
Enjoy your week , CHRIS !
County of my birth! Love Lancaster !!
Thanks for the tour ... excellent workmanship on the tunnels. RWB

Hi, Thanks for this video! Worked on the Low Grade from when I started on the railroad. Penn Central. In 1975. Great to see this video!
Pastel stone and brick work tones plus trickling water👍
I think I like the last one..but the first 2 were awesome also. Great video!
The culverts are spooky! Thanks for sharing. 😀
Thank you for the video 😁 I wish you and your viewers a wonderful day!!😁🎄🎄🎄
The First One i liked the most look like walking catacombs in a castle, awesome explore and thank you for sharing.
I wish you had been one of my teachers
I agree. Cool teachers are in short supply.
That was sooo fantastic. Those tunnels were all fantastic the stone and brickwork was stupendous. Loved all tunnels but that last one is my fave. It’s true it is very much like the mines of Moria. My fave book. Thank you so much for taking me along and please stay safe and take care
Unchartedlancaster is great! Adam does an awesome job with it. My son and I explore alot of his cache hunts. Born and raised in Lancaster county
Great video, Cliff. Thanks for sharing. All of the tunnels were nice but I also like the last one the most. The masonry is so impressive. It looks in near perfect shape after many years. Enjoy your videos very much 👍
Loved the double tunnel!!

Same here, but I listen to Savatage alot.

Thank you for exploring. You are much braver than me! I liked the second culvert the best.
I was getting claustrophobic in that double tunnel🤣🤣✌️
I like the first and forth. Beautiful stone and bricks. Thanks for showing these to us. Merry Christmas.
Interesting subject material. Thx. For sharing and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Loved all the stone work n brick, but loved not seeing graffiti n garbage anywhere.
Hi Cliff, my favourite was the second one because of the drop and the waterfall plus just the whole look of it. I thought the lighting was okay, we could see all of the features in the brick/stonework and also the path through so don't worry it was fine. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx💖
Yeah - best part of the trip... he goes a good ways down a deep tunnel in the earth, and his light fails! 😂😂😂 "Boogah! Boogah!" 🤣🤣🤣
Interesting place to visit these culverts, I agree with you the first and forth were the best. The stone and brick construction reminds me of ancient castles from a old novel. Thank you
Godspeed Cliff. Have a very blessed Christmas.
I also liked the 1st one.

You should see the old train tunnels in Dingess West Virginia

Loving the LoTR references 🧙♂️
The end gated bridge was not the one that burned down. That will be opened in the future. the one burned down is out by pequea Camp Ground

Still remember that like yesterday I live right by it

We all float down here
I've been meaning to float the Pequea Creek too but I heard they sold Sickmans' s Mill and it now privately owned
Sorry, I was making a movie reference. Remember the movie it when the kid says we all float down here. Hahaha
@@mzimm460 the refernce is from the movie IT!

Hey Cliff, Charge your lights!!! I liked No1 as well. It seemed more homey and quaint!!! Thanks for the tag-a-long, it's appreciated...Peace!!!
Bill
Eric Burton used that line “In the hall of the mountain king “ in the song Spill the Wine.
"Dig that girl!"
Hey a tunnel and a waterfall cant beat that!!!
Love the simple stone arch architecture of those tunnels. It does look like something dwarves could have had a hand in crafting. 🙂
Neat video. You're right: the quality of the rock work and brick laying is amazing.
I slightly liked the first pair the best.
The craftsmanship put into a drainage ditch is unbelievable. I guess they didn’t have any other options to get the job done.
i liked the last one the best.

Pretty awesome!
Thanks for the awesome video. The construction of the railroad was an incredible project, check out links detailing the history of the rail line.....

I like the last one had a walk way on nlth sides. First ones were cool
Does anyone know what year those tunnels were built?
I have to reiterate other comments, stonework was impressive
excellent exploration video...same tunnel building techniques & materials as the imploded Williamstown Tunnel & mine drainage main tunnels (Big Lick, Bear Gap, Jeddo (near Hazelton), etc; the constant toxic acid drainage from mine tunnels & boreholes leaves a nasty scar on the land...sorry, personal rant
I think the bridge that was burned is east of where you were. Crosses River Road>
Interesting place
I was down there this summer and filmed but my sd card got corrupted and wasnt able to post these on my facebook page so i will be going back in the spring or summer of 2021

Beautiful stonework on the tunnel. What RR made them?
pennsylvania railroad

In a few years you should get out to the U.K. Martin Zero has a RUclips channel and he does all kinds of tunnel, drainage channel explorations. Hans.
When u went through the tunnels it kind of sounded like people talking it was worried I had my head set on
I'd get closer phobic in those 2 tunnels looks like they are for storm water flow
your friend jp would love this place
Whats the video with the train wreck please?
Next video that comes out.
I would be thinking of Lord of the Rings the whole time too.😆😄
Are these trails visible because they are used so much or do they take some sort of maintenance?
No maintenance, just visible because people use them.
What year was the train wreck?
I'll explain all that in the next video.
I'm sure that you've heard this b4 but ya' might want to invest in a solid pair of waterproof hiking boots.
would love to see them with lots and lots of water gushing thro them
Song by a music group king crimson simile to early genesis with Peter Gabriel
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
🤔😯👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It was nice NOT to see the tunnels being tagged!
Cliff looks like Jake Plummer
SAVATAGE:HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING
I liked 2 , 3 & 4 best , the first was too long and too narrow .
The long narrow ones were my favorite. 😆
Check yer mail Cliff :) Merry Christmas!!
I like the videos and stuff, but what's the big deal about culvert....js....no judgement.............just wondering
They are just fun to explore.
Hay I'm forgetful make a check list
Watch out NOTHING jumps out at you like a raccoon . Now that sounds like a natural spring water just be safe and careful ok wow a little bit loud with water in it wow a babbling brooke
