- Ham was a normal chimpanzee. Purchased by the US Air Force at the age of 2. He was smart and fast learner compared to others.
So NASA decided to launch him in Space. On 31 January 1961, Ham was launched in space inside the Mercury-Redstone rocket.
In the beginning everything was fine but soon after launch NASA lost control and because of it Ham's rocket reached 252km in Space. Somehow they got the control back and Ham's rocket returned back to Earth.
He landed hard in the Atlantic Ocean & somehow survived the impact. That day Ham became the first chimpanzee in space.
After the flight, Ham lived all alone in a zoo for the next 17 years. Ham died on January 17, 1983.

he was depressed when he came back from the trip, which is why he stayed alone for 17 years. he didn’t want to interact with other monkeys even though everyone tried to get him to his normal self again. human testing really had an impact on him and my heart aches for him and laika everyday. i’m just glad that he didn’t die in space.

The reason he was kept in captivity alone was because the other zoo animals wouldn't accept him and he wouldn't be able to live with them because he was too used to humans. And he wasn't neglected, the humans took care of him and he died peacefully from old age.

Story of how humans let Ham be a subject to their experiments and stuffed him inside a coffin like container. Imagine the horror he must have felt not knowing what was going to happen to him. At least he survived but then kept alone in a zoo 17 years. I am sure they made a lot of money by putting a sign outside his cage saying 'hey look this is the chimp who went into space and came back'.

Everyone's feeling sorry for him. He was one of the first Chimps to see SPACE and live to tell other Chimps about it. He got to live in a Zoo where he was fed, showered, treated for health and visited by so many every day. He may have been "imprisoned" in a zoo but at the time these Chimps were being captured and tortured by hunters in other countries. Would you of rather had him in a Zoo or in the jungle where he would be targeted? He got to see things that 99.9 animals in this planet today will never see. He was very well taken care of and lived 20+ years. I guarantee he was the smartest chimp there to. I don't like seeing animals in zoos or sea animals in aquariums but at least they get to live a hell of a lot longer and they don't have to die being paranoid about some human hunting them down. Ham lived a good life. Look into his stories and you might feel better.

Animals may not have the same brain as us, but they have feelings too, and they aren't completely stupid. The relationship between animal and human should be one of distance and respect. We are the ones who invade their privacy and we are the ones who take them away from their homes and bring them to ours, and then we get shocked when they fight back. We should just leave them and their homes alone and let them be.

I think it's nice how they keep his bones there and remember him as the first monkey to go to space, he achieved much more than I will probably achieve before I die, he is lucky to be remembered.

This is where the idea of 'Zero' came from. At least Most Probably. The film needs to be directed well. Name should be at least "Zero?" instead of zero.
