  • A review of this great little sander which costs under £20.00 (Amazon Dec 15). Excellent DIY tool.
    Great for sanding all sorts of timber, paint, varnish and rust removal. Also, cleans glass. Easy to grip with a convenient shape.
    Buy one!

    Those diamond shapes you say to cut off, have a purpose. Because the tip of the mouse gets more use, it wears away more quickly than the rest of the sandpaper. When the tip of the mouse is worn, cut out the diamond shape and use one of those you cut off. Essentially giving you 3 bites of the cherry.

    I found replacement pads cheaper than original
    but they don't have holes.
    With no holes is there danger of overheating the motor

      Yes. I purchased this sander to sand between the rails on my deck. After 20 minutes I noticed that the mouse started to loosen. I had screwed it in very well before I started sanding. I tightened it again but noticed that the thread seemed a bit loose. I kept sanding and very soon it got very loose again and the screw felt even more like I was screwing it into butter. The sander was getting very hot and I believe that the problem is that it got so hot that the plastic on both the mouse and the part it attached to softened. After 30 minutes the entire mouse fell off in the middle of sanding. I was appalled at what poor quality this sander was. I used a DeWalt random orbital sander for the rest of the deck for many hours, with no problems. I'm returned my Black & Decker detail sander tomorrow (purchased on Amazon) . I do not recommend this product.

      My update / two pence on sanding floors: for anyone thinking of buying a sander to sand their floors - don't bother with a belt sander, they're too small, and way too time consuming, and don't apply enough downwards pressure to even out an uneven wooden floor. They weigh about 6kg and not designed to be pressed hard onto a floor, only to carry their own weight along a floor. A belt sander may be okay if your floor is very even. But what you really need - especially for any large floor - is a DRUM sander. They weigh 30-40kg and can even out an uneven floor. You then also need an edge sander as a drum sander won't get to edges. It is a long process, and worth planning out to make sure you make the most use of both the sanders you hire.

    Will this help smooth my skirting boarded as they have a lot of bumps?

    • @21stcenturycaveman33
      @21stcenturycaveman33  6 лет назад

      Hello my friend. That will depend what the 'bumps' are. If they're nails which have been painted over then the answer is no. However, if they're just bits off lumpy paint, dirt and grime which have been painted over then no problem at all my friend. Hope that helps, Des

    would this be powerful enough to sand back stained wood, to get back to the natural grain ?

    • @21stcenturycaveman33
      @21stcenturycaveman33  6 лет назад

      No probs. However, you would need to use different grades of sandpaper starting with coarser first. Good luck, Des

      Des thanks for the reply. Do you think the sheets that are included with the mouse would do? Or would I need to buy something else? Thanks again, take care

    • @21stcenturycaveman33
      @21stcenturycaveman33  6 лет назад +1

      No worries Sir. Unfortunately, I cannot remember exactly what sheets came with the Mouse but I do know that I used them for a multitude of tasks and they were more than adequate. They are quite easy to come by but the stock replacements can be quite expensive. I seem to recall someone leaving a comment to say that he bought quite a few at a bargain price from flea bay. Might be worth checking it out. Alternatively, I did another video illustrating how to make up your own. You ned to get the Hook and Loop backing and just cut them down to size. Check out the vid my friend. Good luck mate, Des

    Hi, would you say it is safe to use this on interior walls (plaster) before painting?

    • @21stcenturycaveman33
      @21stcenturycaveman33  4 года назад

      Hi there. Yes, it will for sure but you need to wear a mask due to dust. I've already covered this in an earlier video. Plse see below:

    Thanks for the review fella: this one was made in 2013, so I guess later version than the one you are reviewing: my full review of the updated version of the mouse sander is on here, I paid £25 for it off Amazon too: ruclips.net/video/HxnF-78SKkU/видео.html

    the pads have different numbers on the back p80 p120 p180 any reason why?

    • @21stcenturycaveman33
      @21stcenturycaveman33  7 лет назад +2

      Hello there my friend. Yes, it relates to how course the grit is on the paper. P80 for example will be a coarse grit suitable for removing wood and material whilst P180 will be used for finer sanding. Basically, the larger the number the finer the grit. Manufacturers also helpfully indicate which grit is best for different types of tasks. No doubt here will also be loads of info' if you Google it. Hope this helps, Des
