BttBaM started in the death metal arena and have gradually gotten more into the clean vocals as the years go by. Each album has a theme, and the lyrics only make sense in the context of the whole album. Usually, every song blends into the next one. That's why you're not getting it. You're only reading one chapter of a book.
Haha, it's fine. As I said, I fully understand BTBAM is not for everyone; as you said, I as well find myself enjoying some parts/songs more than others and my BTBAM listening session are not long for the same reason. They still pick my interest and entertain me, but not totally sold on them.
Btw, for the future, feel free to use any song from the list your wifey has, if any of those pick your interest.

Honestly Prog has always been that way for me and it's my genre of choice.
You almost never "get it" on the first listen. But that's almost always the point I suppose. You end up still discovering new things after 30 plus listens.
And yeah that part on the song is supposed to be almost "funny". They do that in quite a few songs. Random country hoe downs and lounge jazz between death metal prog.

good song but not a good song for someone not into the band imo
You called it, almost identical reaction lol. Loved the first half with the folk vibe, middle was more of the same filler, and the end was cool, kind of also gave me an Amorphis vibes in parts. When I have more time I'll explore that A1 song.

unfortunately, you keep getting recommended weaker songs. don’t get me wrong, the songs are good but they do lack a lot of aspects many of their other songs have.

Blot is not weak and automata are not weaker albums. Each album have different styles. Just preferences. Most people like the easier to listen to Colors, some like the more streamlined coma ecliptic. Some like silent circus the best.
Just preferences. None of their CDs are weak or bad.
@@JGAbstract that’s your opinion. Don’t try to correct mine.. this is my favorite band so obviously none of their songs are bad. Some are weaker than others which is perfectly valid and reasonable.
Unfortunatelly, this is a song that i don't like so much... I like all the BTBAM's songs, but some songs are 'normal' and nothing special. And you did choise this song.
But BTBAM is a amazing band. The "problem" is: You have to listening the album, because a music continue in the next.
Yeah definitely gotta just learn the song. They are unusual and not normal music. I'm sure if you haven't listened to them since their first CDs, it just sounds weird and random with the different section.
But once you just know this is their style, you just hear it as one cool creative piece of music rather than weird circus parts and silly randomness.
It's definitely worth going back to their older stuff. Most of their albums are conceptual, so they'll end or start abruptly and that's bothersome for some listeners.
Most people will suggest older stuff, specifically Colors or Parallax 2 (my personal fav). If you've only ever listened to Extremophile Elite and now Blot, I would go way back in their catalog and try something there next. I'd recommend from their album Alaska either "Alaska" or "Selkies" maybe "Backwards Marathon" for one most don't review. Or from Silent Circus "Mordecai" or "Ad A Dglgmut"
