Would you say this is more of a monitoring tool? For example you are shooting in a very bright outdoor area and you need to retain more info in the highlights, you would higher the EI value making the monitor brighter again and you lower the value thought T stops or ND? and the same in reverse with shadow retention by lowering the EI and adding T stops and removing ND? I'm just curious as I'm really struggling to get my head around the new cine EI system.
Hi Daniel, Yes, I agree with you. I would consider how much more dynamic range I would need in the highlights vs. shadows and choose a number 1600 for example, which, according to the dynamic range graph, gives me a "highlight" preference +1 stop. similar to shadows. With more testing, we will know when to use specific numbers. I would like to hear how you continue to develop good skills with EI in the following months. :) Cheers, Magdalena
I’m so new to professional cameras and the world of videography and photography. I got my FX3 in May and have been slowly learning it. The firmware update came out just as I was getting used to the menu and my settings. Question about Cine EI: Why do I need it? Couldn’t I have just shot a scene in S-log 3 and set my ISO to 800 or 12,800 and done the rest of the work in post?
Hi, appreciate you stopping by. :) Well, of course you can use the 2 base isos and correct the rest in post as i said in the video. I think you need to answer the question yourself. Test out many specific scenarios while playing with the index and you'll see if you need it now or figure out when it will help you later to get the best possible shots for your postproduction. ☺️ it is also a kind of prep for bigger sony's cameras that work also like this (fx6 etc)
@lucaimmesi I would think when filming with shadows that would be the case. As she showed in her video going above the EI, produced great results favoring the highlight dynamic range. I tried this yesterday on fx30. Pretty interesting too see the highlights maintained but my shadows crushed.
this is the best video I have come across on cine EI! thankyouu!
happy to hear!!! :)))
i like your style of explanation
Awesome to hear! 😁👋
Great break down.. CINE EI! Some new tings to learn & stuff..

Great video! Just got my Sony FX3. Switched over from the Panasonic GH5. I shoot music videos, what would be the best settings you recommend?
Hey! How is it going with the settings? Did you find any cool workflow for yourself?
Merci! 🎥🎬

@@czechvibes Hello, nice video. Alister Chapman, official sony ambassador, doesn't recommend using EI's higher than the sensor base iso.
