- Check out the Lekato WS-80 Wireless - amzn.to/3o9gurF
In this video I'll be going over the WS-80 in depth - what I like about it and what you can reasonably expect out of an affordable wireless device for your guitar, bass, or other instrument. As always with my reviews, I like to spend at minimum 1-2 months with the device, testing it out in different venues and seeing how reliable it is before committing to publishing a review. Lekato had reached out directly to me for this video since I've owned a few of their products in the past and have been happy with them, however the thoughts expressed in this video are mine alone.

I've just ordered this before the review you have done and I'm glad I watch the review too thanks
Glad I could help
I've been used for a long wile now, best wireless for gitar at an affordable price, I got even the Rowin wireless system witch are also great but they are a little bigger and for me that moves a lot on stage are not the best solution. I never feel latency unless I move quite far from the stage but that's during the distance of the sound fonte and I use digital prosessor. This wireless Lekato are reliable and well build.
Good comparisons. I've got the ws-70 which I'm using with a wind synth. No complaints so far.
Hey, are they still good? have you compared them to the ws80?
@@Robin_0011yeah same question here..I’m about to buy thinking w80 is better but actually it’s different technology, uhf & wifi, so which one is better?
@@onzkicg i have the ws80, they’re good, no latency. But I can hear some sort of distorsion when I play loud. I would never use them live for that reason.
Convinced me. Just bought a set
That intro tho! 😁
Steely dan
cool violin too, I am a midling guitar player at best but if I could learn the violin I would always be in demand
Lovely steely Dan solo mate 😊
You know what else runs on 2.4? Routers,Modems,Phones,Tablets, etc. Pretty much EVERYTHING in a bar/Venue! So i got the Lekato 5.8ghz. Has never skipped a beat.Ur welcome
Nice entrance
I’m looking to buy one of these just for bedroom practice but I can’t help noticing a slight drop in brightness on the wireless receiver, might just be me but I could live with that for fourty quid
Thanks for the great content. Sub'd🙂
Alex - also get the 5.8 GHz Lekato. If one has interference, use the other. I’ve been using the 5.8 and have yet to have any interference.
Good to know! The 5.8 GHz band as I understand has some slight differences - improved range at the cost of being more sensitive to objects for example. At least that pertains to WiFi signals. I’m no expert in this so maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong.
@@AlexPriceMusician check out Scott Uhl’s videos. He has a series on these plug wireless gizmos. His recommendation is to get a 2.4 and a 5.8 and swap if needed. My observation is that the 5.8 is significantly better. I hardly use the 2.4s at this point.
ahhh.. I’m bassist unfortunately it seems not to work well with bass killing the low end. Your demo on elec guitar, how long is that cable? I definitely noticed tone quality reduced on clean tones, but maybe same or equivalent if you’re using 10meters long cable. I’m just guessing. Overdrive tones are very subtle differences… acoustic and violin to my ear is passable almost similar to cable.
So in summary seems like just the elec guitar clean tone was badly affected. Great review, thanks 🙏
Hey Alex, great review. I bought 3 sets of these to use live my 3 guitars. One always works great. The other will cut in and out. I noticed you pressed both the receiver and transmitter channel switch at the same time to change channels. Should my 2nd and 3rd unit be on different channels? And is it the switching both units together to change the channel the key? Thanks, Paul
Hi Paul - it has been a while since I went over this product, but yes they should be on different channels. Try re-pairing up one set, then mark them with tape or something so you know which two go together. Then do the same with the 2nd and 3rd set.
My kit still works reliably and I leave it at a venue with a couple pedals that I'm at each week. I don't think you need to press the buttons at the exact same time. You can press one and then the other.
Thanks for this video. For the violin, I feel like I was hearing it acoustically and not through the amp. Can you possibly do a demonstration where you and the violin are at some distance so we can hear through the amp? Thanks!
That’s because my violin “pickup” is actually a mic.
So did this not really work for a violin, then? I played through a Shure SM58 to a Bose L1 tower for years and it worked great.
No, it works but you have to make sure that the mic you’re using it outputting the right type of signal (unbalanced, high impedance), which is what the wireless is designed for. Most mics will have an XLR connection but the Myers pickup I use is specially designed so you can use it with typical guitar-type equipment.
It’s this pickup - www.amazon.com/dp/B00VMT3FDC/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_JD817GA16SCFBCKPV3B1?linkCode=ml2&tag=alexanderpr0d-20
In this video, I plugged the wireless transmitter into my violin mic and the receiver into my interface.
Nice review. I would try that one. I have the xvive which works well and very similar. My other band mates have line6. I have found the distance has shortened for some reason ever since the other 2 guys got their line 6. I do not have any interference but I think all the cell phones etc create distance of reach issues. Maybe it’s also line of site. I play a lot in a garage and used to be able to walk down the driveway and across the street and into the park. Now I can only get to the sidewalk and it breaks up. Any ideas on that? The only thing blocking my site is a pa monitor.
Could possibly be other WiFi networks blocking it? I would also believe that more wireless units and cell phones around it affect the range. I’ve been using this Lekato kit and the Brian Fay wireless every week since last Summer on this church gig I have where I play guitar and also run FOH sound. Has been working well so far, even when the place is full.
At the end of the day, these internet-band wireless kits are good fun but not entirely reliable in a situation where you can’t afford failure. I have yet to run into a major issue with this kit or any of the others I’ve reviewed but it won’t surprise me when it happens.
Be careful with the line 6. The company deemed it a fire hazard.
Hello!
Can I use Lekato ws with my digital piano Yamaha P125?
Thank you!
My WS-70 cannot take the DiMarzio Evolution, the output is too high. It's compressing when I strum hard on the string.
Any differences between this one and the Joyo JW 03????
What a lot of people overlook when they compare these things is that most of them have non-replaceable rechargeable batteries. Some may perform better than others but, if the batteries can't be replaced, they will be useless in 2-3 years no matter how much they cost. I have the cheap X-Vive set, and they perform as well as the similar units from Boss and Line6 that cost more. Some similar sets cost a lot more, but they will all be going in the garbage in 2-3 years if the batteries can't be replaced.
(A year later....) Not that I'm a big fan of our "disposable" culture - but the thing costs $40. My primary wireless is a G50 and I assure you that in those 2-3 years I'll spend more than that on the batteries for it. So kind of a wash - tho personally I lean toward replaceable battery units just cuz you can toss new ones in quickly and keep going.
That’s one of my concerns with these, I have 2 set of gigs 2 hours each, 20min break in between. So I need at least 6hours before it drops low. I guess having replaceable rechargeable batteries is best for longer gigs or buying 2x sets of these.
I honestly dont care as long as its under $50 and main reason i bought it was for the wireless convinience and using it on keyboard and electric drums and etc
@@riccampbell I have g30 and i use eneloop white batteries. They can be recharged 2000 times. So you need to buy batteries only once!!
How to choose between their UHF, 2.4 and 5.8 models? The biggest selling point of WS-80 appears to be 8 hours of use per charge. Is there anything else that differentiates it?
To be honest, I'm not sure how one performs over the other. With wireless internet routers, 2.4ghz generally travels further and through objects a bit better while 5.8ghz is in general more reliable at close range. Not sure if that applies here at all though.
There's a comment a bit down about another video on RUclips advising to get one of each to cover a situation where one has a hard time working.
They're OK for practice or rehearsal.
I've just done an A/B test against my Line 6 G75 and it made the Lekato sound awful
I bought 2 of these to use for bass and guitar in my solo act. Using only one at a time they work great. When I run them at the same time, I keep losing signal. I can change channels and usually resolve it, but the fix is temporary. Sometimes when I lose signal the receiver light flashes as it should sometimes it doesn't. The receivers are only 2-3 ft away. Contacted Lekato and got nothing for help. I have ordered a WS-70 which is UHF, it should work better with the 80 as there is no opportunity for Interference.
On the plus side, the WS-80 runs 8hrs + on a charge and recharges in a couple hours or less.
Lekato had actually sent me the WS-70 around the time I reviewed this, but I found that there was a noise gate sort of built into it that wasn’t reacting fast enough and I was losing the transients of the notes. You’ll have to see if you notice anything. I told them I wouldn’t demo it because of that, then they sent me the WS-80 and I thought it worked much better. Maybe mine was a dud though.
I'm experiencing the same problem. We got 2 pairs for our band, but when used together we got interferences. When used solo, no problems. So disappointed, it seems they did not tested the case of using many pairs at once. Maybe it's why expensive brands still sell their products, because of much more reliability :)
@@AlexPriceMusician i bought a 70 and i use it on my bass, no noticeable signal loss and no interference. The 70 has nowhere near the battery life of the 80, but i get by with it.
@@skini82 i saw a few reviews that recommend using not more than 2 at a time but i was not able to use 2. I use a 70 with the 80, no interference. Also you could try a 5 5ghz midel.
I bought the ws-70 which is bragging 70 channels not even sure I know what that means? I bought a second unit for a friend and now I am having problems with mine , the receiver unit drops battery doesn't last , Its gad to full charges. The batter craps out pretty quick, how quick? not sure my noodle sessions run between 10-45min, If I can't get a day of casual usage before it starts shutting itself off than its not worth it. I was looking at the ws-80 but that seems to be a step back in there product line. I have the one I bought for my friens arriving tomorrow I will mess with it and see if I have the same issue. thanks
The company sent me the WS-70 to review as well and I found it had problems maintaining connection. It also had a weird noise gate thing going on. The WS-80 worked fine for me though.
Just bought the Lekato WS 90. When plugged into Mustang LT 25, get a really annoying buzzing. Guitar is hollow body Casino passive pickups. Any thoughts? Would appreciate any advice. Same problem on all 4 channels.
That sounds odd. You may have a defective unit. They're cheap, so quality control isn't outstanding by any means - not like a more expensive system made by Shure or Sennheiser.
The WS-90 should have no issue working with passive electric guitar pickups. I would return it.
@@AlexPriceMusician many thanks. I think that's the way to go. Appreciate your taking time to respond.
Whats difference between Ws-80 (2,4 Ghz) and Ws-70 (uhf) , Whats the diff between UHF and 2,4Ghz ?
UHF band is from 300Mhz to 3Ghz. So technically speaking, the 2.4Ghz is a UHF band. But generally, we talk about UHF in general for frequencies between 300 and 1000Mhz. Because some frequency range are reserve for old cell phone, TV, radio, radars and so on. The WS-70 is probably using the 500 to 600 Mhz, providing more range but being more easily affected by the environnent.
What's the difference with all these ws60 ws70 ws80 etc.?
Good question. Lekato seems to have so many of these models. One thing I noticed in the specs is the WS80 has longer battery life, lower latency, but a lower bit rate (16 vs 24).
I’ve just gone ,sounded great at first now is wobbly sounding ? Any ideas ?
Is it fully charged? I would also try it in one or two different locations. It’s possible something is interfering with it where you are
Fully charged and now sounds OK, hopefully they were just running flat.
So which is better? Xvive or Lekato?
Xvive is an unethical company, also has a history of slapping their name on cheap, generic products and upcharging a ton.
Lekato also sells cheap, generic products but at least they’re honest and appropriately priced.
@@AlexPriceMusician I agree, I sold my xvive because I didn't notice any difference between them and the Lekato ws80. Have you tried ws90 or 100 btw?
@@AlexPriceMusician i have the ws80, they’re good, no latency. But I can hear some sort of distorsion when I play loud.
This sure looks like the Joyo model ,the way the front lights are.
I believe they are sold in bulk to a number of different companies and then branded. The Joyo system I’m sure works just as well
wow Many thanks for the video! I was nearly buy these clearly ruins the tone thats for sure Nope thanks 🫡👍
