Black Widow! Looks like more people hated this movie than I realized when I started making the video. Are they wrong? Oh well, I kinda loved it! So here's everything right with Black Widow Part 1!

The biggest win is certainly Florence Pugh as Yelena. Florence fit right into the MCU, and I hope to see her in more Marvel projects.

The "fightning pose" scene is even funnier when you find out it was only added because a writer overheard Florence Pugh teasing Scarlett about them not being practical after being told they would hurt the person doing them

I saw so many complaints about the hysterectomy bit, but I love it-the acknowledgment of trauma with dark humor that implies some measure of healing.
The characters have the right to talk about it.
I'm glad it was acknowledged, and Yelena approaches everything with dark humor, so it makes sense that she would talk about it that way. I'm so excited to see more Yelena/Florence in the MCU!
Especially if you look it through the double lens that is so common for Eastern European women today, and a factor of 5 during the Cold War. To an extent after Stalin (depending on where you lived as this wasn't so true for East Germany and Romania) the Soviets sort of allowed us to use the vehicle of dark humor to ridicule the powers that be to the point they allowed us.
That said, underneath that surface, women had to contend with the limited education they received in anatomy, the hush hush battle for contraceptives from the '70s (while we don't have "lovely" faux clinics with preachers disguised as doctors and nurses most male doctors still resisted), these were and to a point still are viewed as "women's stuff" and through the machoistic attitude it's not something "men need to contend with".
The bitter irony is that shooting the movie partially in Hungary you have a country that under Stalin demanded 3 kids from every couple, and nowadays even the highest in power can muse about "getting how women are tired after a day of work but so is the husband so they shall find the energy to serve him". A bit of paraphrasing here, but he did say that just a few months ago.
So Yelena basically talked about the "unchangeable perspective" of women being viewed as second rate/disposable in an oppressive regime where they can't rely on men.

I myself love that moment, but if I was a parent I probably wouldn't. Most MCU movies are appropriate for ages like, 8+. I would not be happy if I had to explain to a kid that young what a hysterectomy was because there was no indication Black Widow ws intended for an older audience than most MCU films.

I wanted to say that you were wrong with Ant-Man being the only hero Thanos hadn’t defeated.
Because of Thanos, Scott missed five years of his daughters life as well as losing his love interest, mentor and the one that he had struggled to rescue earlier.
My argument to that is there wasn't a specific target in mind because of the snap. That was all coincidence and thus Ant man couldn't be involved he never had direct contact with Thanos tho Thanos did take his loved ones. It was random
Technically he wasn't defeated though, since Thanos never knew of his existence in the first place. Not to mention from Scott's perspective, Hope and her parents were only gone for maybe a week at most.

I was never so happy to see anyone getting "always a win". Florence Pugh deserves it and she is only 25. I hope that means Midsommar and Little Women CinemaWins videos are on the way.

If you watch his Hot Fuzz Part 2 video at the end he says something along the lines of "Maybe I'll break my horror movie rule for Last Night in Soho (upcoming horror movie)"

As a Russian I can confirm, It _is_ pronounced "Yelena", no clue why Google translate said Helena.
Also I'd like to give my own win for all the Russian used in the Movie, It really helps bring Russian's like me into the movie making me enjoy it just all the more.

Because Google cannot differentiate between the umlaut on the E that makes it Yelena and matches it to the closest one. Also, if you may recall, Murder on the Orient Express had a similar twist with Hercule recognizing the letter N written in Cyrillic, and not H for Helena. If I recall correctly she too was Elena/Yelena.
As another Russian, it saddens me that the only good Russians in American movies are the ones abandoning or betraying our country.

10:57 When I saw this scene I assumed that the Red Guardian was a Russian propaganda machine, going into staged fights against a fake "Captain America" while Alexei was none the wiser. It would explain his future feelings of inadequacy, and would also serve as a great counterpoint to Captain America's original purpose as an American propaganda machine
I think the opening credits scene deserves AT LEAST 5 wins! It was hauntingly stunning! Like I got chills in the theatre when I saw it the first time, I still get chills!
I enjoyed how Yelena and Natasha's fight called back to Nebula and Gamora's in GotG Vol 2. It shows that they built a relationship while demonstrating the damage they took during that time.
Also the general parallels between the two sets of sisters

@King Wobbegong, Sea Urchin Farmer The original version, as amazing as it is, doesn’t fit the tone the credits are going for. I definitely would not object to them using the song in an action scene in a later movie though much like Saturday Night’s All Right for Fightin’ like in Kingsman 2.
Pugh’s line are frequently dripping with sarcasm. That’s why her lines are wins!
And they criticize Fallout 4 for including sarcasm lines....
When my older sister and I were watching together for the first time, we had to literally stifle our laughter in the theatre during the "jacket with the pockets" conversation(9:45) just because how Florence Pugh and Scarlett Johansson just fucking NAILED the way sister's talk to each other.

To be fair, I loved Taskmaster's "Terminator" style, kind of reminded me how the Red Room literally Sterilizes, trains and mind controls their Widows, making them almost like living T-800s or something like that.
I thought it sucked, Tony Masters actually has a personality, and is quite chatty.
Ehhh, they changed Taskmaster a lot from the comics.
Taskmaster had always been one of my Marvel Villans, because I found it so cool he xould perfectly imitate someone buy just qatching them and was always an interesting character for me, but Black Widow totally ruined the charactet

The problem is, Marvel already had a Terminator. The Winter Soldier. This kind of feels like a rehash of that.

This movie really showed me how people really focus (in my opinion too much) on the plot and dismiss everything else that makes a movie. The plot of Black Widow is pretty forgettable, as are the action scenes and the villain, but Florence Pugh and David Harbour's performance was AMAZING, so much so that this is one of my favorite MCU movies honestly. When Yelena talks about her jacket in the car, the way she emotes and delivers her lines, and the dinner table scene at the end when she breaks down, were simply iconic.
The opening credits too are absolutely amazing and my personal favorite of any Marvel movie. We’ve heard Nat’s story told to us before and it’s dark as hell but to visually see it elevates the emotion and heartbreak of it to a completely new level.
@@theemeraldepiphone644 Agreed! And the cover of Teen Spirit was spot on too, the lyrics have a whole new, tragic meaning when you hear them in the perspective of the young girls in the movie.

The blue light during the prison avalanche scene was from a transformer(s). When a transformer blows it gives out a bright blue flash of light. The structure at the source of the light was a series of industrial HVAC systems, which can be seen when the avalanche starts. These units at this scale have pretty beefy transformers, which would definitely blow during a freak avalanche.

But the MCU/TV Jeffery Mace was the Patriot but he would’ve been a kid or even a teen during the Alexi fight. So it was probably Burnside if he didn’t mention It being a black man wear the Captain America uniform

@@mimicoffey1393 Isaiah wouldn't make sense because 1) he doesn't look like Steve, 2) Isaiah was imprisoned in a black site from 1950s-1980s, and after he was freed he lived incognito in Baltimore. He wouldn't be operating as Captain America in 1982 or 1983.
His videos bring joy to my face, seeing good movies and pointing out the awesome stuff, even though the movie may be flawed at times, he does his best

Knowing that Florence Pugh gets "always a win" status makes me very happy. 1000% deserves the status. I'm hoping you do a video on Midsommar, because honestly it's such a good and unsettling film, and Florence's performance is incredible throughout that entire film.

I was greatly anticipating this movie because my whole family loves Black Widow, and this movie did not disappoint. I loved virtually everything about the film, looking forward for the future of the MCU (or multiverse, does that make it MCM?)

Now that you've asked, I was still hoping whether or not he'd doing Rango or Murder on the Oriented Express (2017) since he teased back at the end of WandaVision (episodes 7-9), as for Raya and the Last Dragon, we've already past that.
But yeah, I'm still hoping for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki to come up before this film.

Well Techinally Bucky Barnes is innocent, The Winter soldier is not. Similar to how Nat and Yelena is innocent while their Black Widows Brainwashed Personas and all of their Crimes (Except for Nat bombing Dreykov Daughter of course) isn't.

All the main characters in this movie were amazing. Natasha has always been one of my favorite Avengers, Yelena is easily one of my new favorite MCU characters ever, and Alexei was hilarious. I just hate how they did Taskmaster. I don't know who thought it would be a good idea to make a character who talks as much as Spider-Man only have one line. The choice to make Taskmaster Dreykov's daughter cheapens the impact of what Nat chose to do in order to kill Dreykov. Plus making her mind controlled and instantly forgive Nat takes away any consequences for Nat's actions, and her powers being an algorithm means that every Widow could have been Taskmaster but Dreykov chose not to because... reasons? This didn't feel like Taskmaster, it felt like Winter Soldier with control c + control v.
Accurate.
I would say that there's one *tiny* potential hope, in how they called using her involving the "Taskmaster Protocol", which could give us a possible Mandarin situation later down the line.
Everything GREAT about WolfWalkers! It’s the most beautiful hand drawn animated film I’ve EVER seen in my life! Cartoon Saloon deserves more attention!

I'm really looking forward to part 2. I saw this movie twice, the second time I bawled through the whole thing. Not just because we lost Nat, but because I was able to digest the human trafficking metaphor, and how all over the world, little girls are being stolen and sold into slavery. The movie is a great action flick with fun characters and a strong theme of family, trauma, and redemption, but it's also really raw and doesn't shy away from a brutal message.
You’d be surprised how people didn’t see that, especially in google reviews. Literally the first comment was something about how this film was anti- male sexist. And it was confusing when someone mention that, cause like it’s Black Widow. Also did you not watch the movie or were ya just simmering in annoyance that this was about Black Widow? Who is a female and of course she is independent and basically a bad bitch. What were u expecting? So confusing…..
I'm actually from the town of Rome, GA where some of the opening scenes were filmed, namely the American flag lights on the bridge and the football stadium which belongs to one of our two universities. Everyone in the theater freaked out when we saw our little northwest Georgia town's landmarks on the big screen in an MCU movie!

Yelena was definitely my favorite part about this movie. She’s smart, funny, beautiful, and deadly, AND she’s got a tragic backstory. What a character
I’m always slightly angered when cool characters like this are overshadowed by the massive power imbalance of Marvel.
We have someone who’s good at martial arts, fighting, shooting etc.
And we have a literally god with a massive axe.
And really, Thor probably respected Natasha tons and would have told someone off for daring to infer she was less of a hero because she didn't have powers or a suit of power armour.

@@SA80TAGE Just because Thor is boastful about his abilities and under the impression he's the strongest Avenger, doesn't mean he's incapable of recognizing when someone's got game. I highly doubt Sif would have let him get away with diminishing her abilities on the battlefield, let alone Natasha, so I think he has a healthy respect for what Natasha can do.
I mean, Darcy took him down with a TASER in Thor 1 and seemed to like her just fine for both Thor 1 & 2...and she's not a soldier or spy.
@@generalilbis He came across as rather condescending to Valkyrie during Ragnarok with that "about time" comment is all I'm saying.
The worst part about that roof scene is how they made it (either by camera angles or special effects I don't know) so the water reflects the sky perfectly and it looks like there's nothing but an endless abyss of sky below them (that's actually what I thought it was until they actually fell even though that makes no sense). I don't usually do too bad with heights but that legitimately gave me vertigo.

Before this movie I hadn't seen Florence Pugh in anything and I'm now obsessed with her. Although when she isn't doing the accent it's like something's missing. She still brings everything in Hawkeye. I kind of need her to be in every Marvel film and series from here on out because her presence elevates anything in which she appears.
Honestly, not even mad about the 2nd part being available sooner on Nebula; it's a fair intensive for people who want to get it sooner while not completely depriving us adoring RUclips non-convertees. Good video as always. Looking forward to the second part.

In the marvel comics, Natasha and her sister have more than once switched places for each other in past, nearly seamlessly taking over the mantle of "Black Widow" when they needed or wanted to. This means we may see the sister take over for natasha.
Everything Great About The Prince of Egypt would be very much appreciated.
I love Black Widow, because that was my honest and raw opinion before hearing the reviews. I swear they're always gonna find *something* and they're particularly hard on Phase 4. After Endgame I just wanted to enjoy everything and not nitpick. And all the content I've seen thus far has been enjoyable and creative, they reached a level where they could be inventive as they want.
The thing with the tattoos of Lenin and Stalin is it was a way to protect yourself in prison because it was illegal to deface pictures of them so prisoners would get their faces tattooed over vital organs to keep guards and other prisoners from attacking them there.
Remember when they wanted taskmaster to be "le stronk female" so they got a pretty good actress for fighting but realised how weird she looks in frame so every scene with taskmaster fighting is actually a guy.

I feel like I'm one of the few people that genuinely enjoyed black widow. I am adopted from Russia so I always felt like I really liked Natasha's character.
to be honest, it's not mentioned often but out of marvel movies, black widow had the best action sequences and stunts. No other movie comes even close.

Also: I dont think Yelena's 'like the avengers weren't really your family' was a stab to try to invalidate Natasha's relationships but rather a place of jealousy and payback that her sister would dismiss her like that.
How is it possible for you to not give the opening scene montage to smells like teen spirit at least 5 points? That was by far the best opening in the whole MCU! It just fits so perfectly

I really love how Yelena is totally different from in the comics, yet somehow exactly the same.
In the comics, after Natasha defected and joined the Avengers, Yelena became the new Black Widow, and there was always a strong resentment, Yelena wanting to prove she was just as awesome as Natasha yet still feeling in the elder Widow's shadow, while Natasha felt annoyed about having to deal with a younger upstart version of her and simultaneously wondering if just maybe her best days were starting to be behind her.
The change, making them older and younger sisters (or "sisters"), keeps much of that relationship. Yelena a bit bitter that Natasha's gone on to such great things without her, Natasha annoyed by the reminder of a past she'd rather forget personified by Yelena, but both having a connection they can't deny. And it opens the way for Yelena to be a much more heroic character in the MCU then she usually gets to be in comics, which is very fun.
And yeah, Florence Pugh carries it brilliantly, SO looking forward to seeing more of her in the MCU. A lovely woman and amazing actress well able to succeed Scarlet Johansen.

One of the best things about the movie is the jumpscares! I saw this in theaters and the first jumpscare made my family and I jump in our seats! I LOVE BLACK WIDOW!!!
The deadpan delivery of the hysterectomy conversation was excellent. One of my favorite macabre lines in the movie.

Personally I think the opening credits with the cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit is the best scene in the movie. Works as a aging montage and it *hits* you. It’s powerful.
I think Rachel Weisz would have been perfect for Nat. She hasn’t aged in years, she showed through this movie that she can DO the demanding stunts, and honestly, she feels more like the Black Widow than ScarJo.
A little fun fact about 6:08 is that this wasn't in the script, Florence actually stumbled and Scarlett improvised

I think the personality of the youngest siblings always take the cake anywhen. The family pays the attention to them, and SO DO WE!

I really enjoyed the pacing of this movie. All the action scenes are short enough so you don't get bored, but long enough to pack it full of details.
"Ok, well they´re at least on equal footing, and Tony didin´t have to fight his best friend for the honor." ........ No, he didn´t. But he gave up the chance to see his daughter grow up. I know for sure which one hit harder for me.

When I saw this in theaters, I was seated next to a four year old kid and his mom. When we got to 12:11 I looked over to see the kids mom was covering his ears.

Comics Taskmaster is a "mutate" like Spider-man...someone who's biology was modified after birth to give them powers. Pretty sure Daredevil is one too, as well.

4:11 What I really appreciated here is that they didn't just use the old footage from Civil War here but gave us a bird's eye/satellite view, since there obv weren't any cameras around. So many movies just use old footage so mad props to them.

Taskmasters whole appearance in this movie gave me Halo Spartan Vibes. The whole expendable super-spy/soldier thing too. But the S-III program gets a leg up because of the “trading lives for time” thing while Drakov just does it for the hell of it it seems.
Fridge brillance:
Alexei's stories about fighting Captain America are seemingly treated as him making up stories. But the revelations of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier about further super soldier experiments, it's possible Alexei wasn't lying and actually did fight another American super soldier fighting as Captain America (possibly William Nasland or William Burnside). In fact, Steve Rogers slept through the entire Cold War.
Me and my sisters watch this in a theater with no one else! It was awesome!!
The Intro to this movie is the darkest out of any MCU movie, I just wish they kept that energy throughout, like guys is OK for your movie about child trafficking to not have Bathos
While I partially agree with you - this movie would benefit from being darker and more realistic - I also like that it tells the audience that human trafficking is really not that bad. You can grow into a normal, socialized human being after that
