I wish we got even more information off of TCG Player, like how many new listings there are per day. Also for singles, you see sometimes that not the cheapest option sells. I'd like to know if that listing had a photo
I'm genuinely curious. "Scalpers" are frowned upon. But what is a scalper? Really. And how is a scalper different from any pokemon shop owner who buys product from a distributor and sells at a higher cost to make profit?
No official definition of a scalper of course. My definition is someone who buys product and quickly sells it for a profit. To be clear, I don't have anything against scalpers. They are not evil and typically just exist as a symptom of the market. An LGS is very different in that yes they are trying to make a profit but also provide a touch stone for the local card community. A place to play, to browse singles and sealed, to discuss the hobby.
A scalper is someone who fights others at Costco and buys out all the inventory to hoard product so they can run home to ebay and try to flip for 2-3x price. A shop owner selling at market price is just economics. The former are loser scum, the latter have a business.
@PokéMarketLab-t7j depends on the lgs as well. Some are better than others for sure. But for example if SS comes out at $120 a booster box at the LGS and the scalpers drive the price up to $200, all of the LGS will also raise their prices. Do they have to do it? No. But the demand is there, and if they see that people are paying that on TCG, they'll be right there behind them. I personally love the hobby and love your channel, but i don't exactly frown on the scalpers. Whatever they were in line first, they bought the product, they have a right to sell it. And i bet a bunch of the people who complain about them not leaving stuff for others, were also the ones who stocked up on toilet paper beyond their own needs during covid.
I know EVERYONE says this on RUclips, but this is really great content. Thanks for sharing your knowledge ✌
I appreciate that!
