This sums it up pretty concisely. I watched yyh when i was a teenager and it was just enough of a combo between power fantasy and understandable to resonate / stick with me the rest of my life

I forced my kids to watch YYH. They was hooked by Ep 2 just by the animation alone. "Yusuke is pretty" - my oldest daughter's words back in 2016.

Kuwabara even mentions that, after each major case Yusuke becomes more withdrawn and unsatisfied or "crabbier" as he puts it. So it's nice to know even the side characters know Yusuke needs a purpose in life; arguably the entire theme of YYH.

Best shonen MC in the game imo and one of the most iconic characters in fiction.
Elite trash talk, drippy, funny as hell, badass, powerful and doesn’t lose any of that over the course of his journey of maturation and emotional healing.

This is a great series, I watched it growing up, I agree it has a lot of good examples of it's themes. Older now, I understand why Yuske is the way he is early on and his story is a great example of finding yourself and your place in the world. Tagoro is a dark reflection of him but even he goes out of his way to help him, he knows he's screwed up his chance at life. He plans things out and as Genki says "In your own screwed up way you've been teaching him." Tagoro is tragic and ultimately he wants Yuske to be better than him, be the person he failed to be himself. "Don't turn out like me, be better."

The impact this series has on, I never thought of it until now. Your vid makes me want to answer. I think the impact is the aspect of growing up. Yusuke matures over time much like I do in this reality. The concept of growing up is on my mind a lot so for me, the next question is how far will I go in life?
Yusuke’s story is over, mine still going. I wonder how much fight I have to find out. Be strong and wise, like Yusuke is what I’m saying.

Yusuke is known to break bones, not caring about the world as a worthless delinquent.
Yusuke’s history is a pretty much as a struggling kid who has a missing father and a deadbeat mother. His early trials that were in the Manga and not the anime.
To quote genkai: “Yusuke has a 6 foot wall of crap from him and his *actual* emotions.” Yusuke takes this well much to heart. During his time during final arc, she even mentions how much he needs to goes things now alone due to Yusuke’s own history.
From accepting his now Demonic Mazoku and controlling it and accepting himself.
And now, Yusuke lives a hero who comes from a punk to a good hearted young man.
And this is why Yusuke is my favorite protagonist. He’s not edgy, but real to the heart.

6:19 granted it’s not nearly as explicitly stated as it is for spirit energy in YYH, but ki in dragon ball does work off of the principles of ki from eastern mythology, body, mind and spirit being in tune boosts your ki. That’s why situations like Gohan during the cell saga happened, his body was in the proper state for his power, but his mind and spirit weren’t caught up, so he needed a mental shift to access his true power

    • @The_Ciple
      @The_Ciple  4 месяца назад

Your right, there are very interesting parallels between Yusuke and Gohan and their power up. Toriyama wrote about different aspects of Ki like Yuki Shoki and Genkai, but it’s not as explicit in the story like in YYH. I wish this was explored more in DBZ, and I’ll definitely have to talk about it when I get around to my DBZ dissection Videos.

This is a pretty good analysis video for Yusuke Urameshi's character development throughout the entire Yu Yu Hakusho story. Nice props to Raizen. Despite having such little screen time, Raizen does have a positive influence on Yusuke in the short time they've known each other. Even though Yusuke used most of that time trying to defeat him, learning a bit about Raizen's backstory and motivations, along with seeing people at Raizen's wake, makes Yusuke accept him as a father figure, more than his actual father. Enki, a close friend of Raizen's, was even able to see the similarities that Yusuke has with Raizen. Not to mention that during a moment in which Yusuke loses sight of his reasons for fighting while fighting Yomi, Raizen's spirit is there in the pivotal moment to help. I especially liked the final conversation that Yusuke and Raizen's spirit had with each other, which really cements how alike they are and how close they became.

People complained a lot about the live action series, but my biggest issue with it was the characterization of yusuke. Way too serious / stoic. The thing i always loved about YYH was Yusuke's juvenile humor that disguised a pretty deep personal morality that was kept in check via an aptitude for self reflection and improvement. Yusuke exemplified the human condition, youth, growing up through adversity, etc...
I did like the live action tho, the fight scene choreography was probably the best ive seen since Jackie Chan's hay day.

you know, regarding Chapter Black and the development of Yusuke's character, I really wish Genkai hadn't been revived. this way, Doctor wouldn't have been revived, and Yusuke would have actually had to deal with the idea of murdering a human mid-way through the story arc.

I am so sick of hearing about "nen" as a "power system ".
Nen is in Yuu Yuu Hakusho and is called Nen.
Nen means Mental force. That's it.
    Psi. Psychic power.
Chi (energy, blood breath) follows Yi (will)
Reiki(spiritenergy) is Ki (energy) associated with the Rei Kai (spirit realm) All types of of Ki are present in Yuu Yuu Hakusho.
Togashi DID NOT CREATE ANY POWER SYSTEMS any more then "physics" is the "power system " of slam dunk
