  • This Acura is a good place to start if you want to get into rebuilding cars. All the damage is bolt-on parts, the vehicle cost is low and these are good sellers. I am going to let the gnome have a chance at rebuilding. Let's see how it goes..

@@anthonyevich3836 I can acknowledge that. Once we hit the 10’s it sort of felt like most major players had settled on long term architectural decisions and had a solid roadmap. From 2000 until then, things were a lot more fluid.

same here. last year bought a 2017 Crew Cab Silverado 1500 work truck 4x4 with 94k miles for 15g at auction from a rental company so it just needed a wash. then this year got a "wrecked" 2015 ford explorer with 95k miles for 7g, just needed a new front end. Replaced the bumper reinforcement, radiator support, front upper and lower bumpers, and gave it a new paint job. A 2015 ford explorer for 10g titled and licensed is not too bad if i say so myself, 60% discount over buying it at a dealership. And the they still have clean titles.

Im rebuilding the rear end suspension on a 98 camry and both rear abs wheel speed sonsors were stuck and i needed new knuckles, so i ordered a pair of knuckles off ebay from the south. They arrived with a lot of things attached to them, including part of the speed sensor, so i cut my old driver side one just above the sensor, spliced the wire with the head of the sensor from the new, used, knuckle and saved myself $85.

I really enjoy your videos. You have an iconoclastic perspective that I find entertaining even if occasionally challenging. I do wish you'd focus just a little more on safety. I'll admit that everyone seems to be hellbent on promoting safety but can't help but wonder if it's altruistically motivated or inspired by a desire to avoid litigation. In any case, please be careful so that you'll be able to see and dance at the Pizza Delivery Girl's wedding, which is something you both deserve and have earned.
As far as this specific video, I hope that the Gnome grasps and values the wisdom, knowledge, and contacts that you bring to this rebuild. Clearly, it's not as simple as buying a banged up car, rounding up some parts, and putting it back together for a tidy profit.
Based on what you've captured on video regarding your work ethic, skill, and attention to detail, I'd buy one of your cars-rebuilt, salvage, or whatever title, with complete confidence.

“What’s the first thing I taught you? In the pile”. It even says so on the shirt.
I guess the big question is: how to tell it’s only bolt on parts repairs vs some restructuring? Certainly not only by auction pictures.

Now there's a neat idea for a Vehcor Tutorial: how to deal with wheel locks when the key is missing. Perhaps there is a Missing Wheel Lock Gnome. Nocturnal, of course...

The Iowans need to use a little more road salt in winter like they do here in IL, their 9 or 10 year old cars aren't rotted enough. What fun is it to just spin nuts and bolts free without a torch? Takes all of the thrill out of working on cars imho. I've watched many of your videos and have no doubt that this Acura will turn out great.

If you want to see real rust, the Lake Ontario and Lake Erie snow belt is where it's at. IL and IA cars are rust free to us.
