Well from what I been learning El is the same god of the Israelites but something happened which caused the Israelites to kill off most of the Canaanites & take their land. The whole world at 1 point spoke 1 language & worshipped the 1 & only GOD: YA'OH.
EL does not merely mean God. The English word God has its complicated origin in Proto Bantu, Phoenician, Sanskrit, Persian, Dutch, and German. And the way in which we use it today actually correlates more with the Latin word Deity which means sky or heaven, in other words "the one who is above" stars, planets, etc. EL on the other hand means strong and powerful, yet thoughtful and wise teacher or leader. What we translate into English as the letter E is actually ALEPH in Hebrew which means first, leader, strength, power, might, but also gentle and tame. The letter L in Hebrew is LAMED which means to control, to prod; to urge forward or to go toward with your staff or rod. It's also used for teaching and learning. And of course it makes sense for the people to apply those qualities to their chief patriarchal deity

@BR2049 I wasn't good brotha, we are on the same page apparently. EL is the father of all the gods including Yah. EL's wife was Anat and later Asherah if we're honest.
I disagree with the claim that El and YHWH are the same god. Where El is mentioned in the Hebrew texts it does not refer to YHWH. That is a false claim made by Christianity which translated the Hebrew El into English as "God". They have done this to back the fraudulent claim that there is only one diety (while, infact, Chrisitanity has many dieties). Abraham and the Ancient Israelites did not believe there existed only one god, as is clearly written in the Hebrew Bible. They were not monotheistic, but henotheistic, believing there existed multiple gods, but owing their primary allegiance to their national diety, YHWH, the personal name of one of the Elohiym [plural of the singular word Eloah meaning deity] that created the earth [See Genesis 1]. It is also highly likely that El was the Canannite name for Sumarian and Akkadian Enlil, ruler of the earth and head of the council of "gods". It is likely the personal god of Abraham was Enlil, but as he lived in both Ur and Harran, which was ruled by Enlil's son, Nanna aka Sin [in Akkadian] rather than Nippur (the city ruled by Enlil) so it is possible, his personal god was Nanna. ... if of course, Abraham is a true historical figure.
The Isrealites were very familiar with Enlil, including the Jews. During the 70 years of captivity, Marduk, the Son of Enki (brother of Enlil) was the city god of Babylon, and it is he who (in the Babylonian Pantheon) gained rulership over the earth in place of Enlil. In fact, when Cyrus released the Jews from Babylonican Captiivity, he gave homage to Marduk and Enlil, not the Hebrew God YHWH as the Jews, today, like to claim. But then who knows, maybe the god the Jews were worshiping in Babylon (and after their release) was not YHWH at all, but Marduk.
@@carlanderson2468 Where do you come up with "El is the father of" Yahuah (YHWH)? You don't know your Hebrew, the Hebrew Bible, or the history of biblical religion. אֵל [transliterated as El] is the personal name of the Canaanite primary god. El appears in the Hebrew Bible 245 times. He was the god of Melchizedek [Genesis 14:18-22], he appeared to Abraham in Genesis 17:1, and states in Genesis 31:13 that he is the El of Bethel [house of El]. Exodus 6:3 states that the god of Moses appeared to Abraham, Issac, and Jacob by the name of El. אֱלוֹהּ, transliterated as Eloah, is a singular, impersonal noun that means god or deity. אֱלֹהִים, transliterated Elohiym, is the plural form of Eloah. Elohiym appears in the Hebrew bible 2600 times, often referencing YHWH as one of the Elohiym. Eloah is not a personal name, but a noun that means deity or god. Eloah appears in the Hebrew text only 60 times, and never as the personal name of a god. And Elohiym (plural), by the way, created the heavens (shamyim, also plural) and the earth according to Genesis 1:1, not Yahuah (YHWH). Yahuah does not appear in the Hebrew Bible until Genesis 2:4. Do you not know how to use a concordance, lexicon, or even a Hebrew-English dictionary?
Most likely, El is Enlil. Linguistically it fits, and El did not exist in Ur or Harran in Abraham's day. Those cities were ruled by Nanna, the son of Enlil. The oldest inscription we have with the name YHWH is in the Stela of Mesha dated about 900 BCE, more than 1200 years after Abraham, who probably lived during the Ur III period. At best, YHWH appears 900 years after Abraham if he was a contemporary of Hammurabi (which I highly doubt), so there is no way that Abraham knew his personal god by the name of El or YHWH, no matter which timeline is correct.
@@perusingposts2557 Stop it ✋️ What I said is historical facts, just because history is told by the winners doesn't make it true. The use of “El” by the Canaanites and others in the area is one reason the the Israelites backslid many times in the Bible.
