Excellent video! Your advice seems spot on. And on a personal note, I also appreciate your delivery, which is blessedly quiet after all the hyperactive "HEYWHATSUPY'ALL!!" style of so many YT channels. Keep up the good work!
This is very kind of you to say, thanks so much. I often feel like I should have more 'HEYWHATSUPY'ALL' energy, but I'll just keep being me 🤔😂
I agree!
That's one problem I don't have - I live in the Highlands. Cudos to those of you who train for hilly ultras without hills! And I second the comment about your calm delivery. I appreciate not having my ears assaulted!
I think the Poliquin step will still be good for you to add that extra stability. Let me know how it goes 😊🙏
@@ChrisBranch OK...I'll get myself some wedges 👍
STRENGTH TRAINING!!!!! Gosh I’m absolutely shocked that any runner would still neglect it with all the science now available!!! I also make sure to do 1 or 2 yoga/ Body Balance sessions per week with lots of barefoot balance exercises … truly underrated in the running world!!!
Totally agree. Yoga changed my game.
So happy I found your channel, my knees agree too!
Thanks so much 😊🙏
Really useful advice. And presented in a very pleasing way. Thanks 🙏
Thank you so much, I appreciate that 🙏😊
I wish I had watched this 3 months ago! I blew my quads on UTS 25k a couple of weeks ago running the steep downhill, but that was a training run for the Cateran Yomp I'm hoping to run in 2 weeks time. My lesson from UTS - take my time on the downhill sections! I'll be doing this afterwards so my future ones aren't nightmare quad burners!
I learned this lesson the hard way too! 😂
Great advice - I’ve not heard of slant wedges and will definitely get some now!
They're so handy! Great for deep squats and calf stretches too 😊🙏
Great video! Running actually looks fun the way you sell it 😆
Hey Tammi! Great to hear from you! And running IS fun 😂 ... but so is rolling, so I hope you're doing well on the mats 👊🙏
Very good tips!
I'm glad it helped ☺️🙏
Excellent video Chris. Love the creativity on this one.
Thank you, Simon, I really appreciate that 😊🙏
Great video thanks Chris. The slant wedges sound a good investment when preparing for a mountain race. That is a good point about protecting the knees.
They're great! Really help the knees feel strong :)
Not much an issue here in southwest Türkiye, but finding flat territory for flat road races can be a pain. I always include two other elements for all hill run training blocks:
1) Stair running on a metal footbridge over a main road. Gentle 5km run down there, then run up/down the 42 steps continuous 20 times (1680 steps) in under 12 mins (+110m gain). Then run 5km home (another +110m gain).
2). Tyre pull running. Between 8k-15k once a week, including 3km up a 5% steady incline. Great muscle adaptation for those long dragging hills. Occasionally I'll do a long distance pull (max 31k).
Ooh yes, tyre pulls are great!
What a great video! some great tips in there Chris! I live in the Fenlands in East Cambridgeshire so I don't think it gets ANY flatter in the UK than here!!!
Thanks so much, Phil! I hope your training is going well 😊
Such a great video with some really good tips, which I’m going to incorporate into my training 😊Also, agreed with the previous comment re your style and delivery 😊
Thanks so much, I appreciate that and I'm so pleased it helped 😊🙏
Nice video 😊 this gives some more information than the short clip! I could've listened a while longer though 😉
Thanks Philip! I'll be making more on this topic for sure 😊🙏
Nice video Chris! Really appreciate it! What is the type of tempo workout you do on the stair climbers and treadmill? I am training for the 50k Snowdonia from London...
Thanks so much! I do a 10-minute warm-up in Z2, then I do 2 x 15-min in high Z3 (~157 HR for me) with a 3-min easy between, then a 10-min cool-down.
Hey Chris, which slant wedges have you got? Seems like a great tool to have!
I have two sets, one at work and one at home. One I got from here: slantboard.co.uk/collections/all-products/products/adjustable-single-slants ... but my cheaper ones off Amazon are exactly the same.
But yes, they're a tool every runner should have!
Thanks so much @@ChrisBranch
Question, do you narrate meditation apps as a side hustle? Your voice, tone and delivery sound just like a meditation app narrator
Haha you're not the first to say that! I have done a lot of meditation, so maybe it's rubbed off on me 🤷♂️😂
What tempo work out do you do on treadmills and steppers?
It's a 10-15 min easy warm-up, then 2 x 15-min blocks at the top of zone 3, wit a 3-min easy recovery between each block, and then a cool-down (sometimes I do the cool-down on a flat treadmill if my legs are gassed 😂)
@@ChrisBranch Excellent thank you. I've taken your training plan and rejigged it to my lifestyle. Really loving the zone 2 training at the minute.
