Actually, Santos comes over as the sort of personality that, no matter how young and impressionable, you didn't need parental advice to steer clear of.
5m km = 3.1m miles. So a couple of million miles out. I WOULDN'T have let that slide. The clown can't get basic facts right, and he tries to correct an expert. It's pathetic
I see Santos is following through on the flat earth definition of “do your own research”. In other words, watching videos that confirm your existing beliefs.
That is flat earth research It is NOT "think on your own". They never learned that, learned to connect the dots, learned to connect literally stellar observations with everyday experiences. E.g with how relieble are measurements, how often have you measured something, thought you are exact and it did not fit. E.g with how relieble are your eyes, with the myriads of optical illusions (e.g. the distorted room that shows that what you think is perfect perspective is TOTALLY wrong). Or trying out whether you can really see without ANY reference whether a pencil 5 feet away is leaning back one degree. Or even sideways by one degree. Or whether a coin on the ground and you are standing is 10 feet away or 11 feet away when there is NO other object as reference. Just estimating 20 times "is it now nearer or farther?" E.g that things MUST accelerate. When you let them loose, they have speed zero. After a second, they have some speed. Change of speed = definition of acceleration. When you throw it up, it gets slower and then faster as it falls down. Deceleration and acceleration. NOT constant speed, as they often claim when they need it. When you drop a rock on your foot, it will hurt more when you drop it from 6 feet than from 6 inches. What has changed? Not the mass. It must be the speed. And that what creates the pain, we call force resp. impulse. E.g. that water can have other shapes than flat and level=horizontal when forces act on it. Best was the guy that shoved a glass basin in front of the camera, the water sloshing left and right, and screamed "See? Water is always flat". I can swirl water in a glass, the centrifugal forces create a trough in the middle that can reach down to the bottom Water not level and centrifugal force is a thing. I can swirl a bucket on a string and the water in the bucket remains flat, even when I swirl the bucket in the vertical. Level water upside down. E.g. verifying perspective can be described mathematically by trying out YOURSELF how the apparent size changes with distance. That an object of the same size appears half as high in twice the distance, resp. an object twice the size appears as high in twice the distance appears of the same size. You can do that with Lego on a table. Takes 30 seconds. There is so much you can demonstrate yourself with simplest means.
But OK, as christian, research is "believe what the preacher says, NEVER doubt it, NEVER think, or you go to hell."
The video doesn't even confirm his believe. He just missunderstands the globe. Those things are obviously visible, and if you would really resolve them pixel by pixel you would see that these videos also show a curve... what they also show is a horizon. A horizon just doesn't exist on a flat earth. It can only exist on something with an at least partially circular cross-section. A cylinder could have a horizon, a half globe could have one (only on the round side), and a donut would have an horizon. But a flat disc would not have a horizon.
Yep. Random video showing you can see far from high up, and a graphic that shows very little other than his complete failure to understand how gravity works at all. He thinks it's like a magnet where when you get close enough you just zoom right in. Ridiculous
@@herzkine …and Sleepy Joe!😝 But at least Biden has an excuse…ongoing senility! And at least Trump made his money in business, unlike Biden and co. who made theirs from corruption.
That's the joke. Flat earthers are either being malicious or incompetent. The troll leverages the Dunning-Kruger Effect as a litmus test. Either a flat earther is crazy, so there's no point in arguing with them. Crazy people believing crazy things is what crazy people do. Or they are being malicious, nobody is going to convince them since the malicious flat earther knows more about the Earth being round then anyone else on the planet, since everyone keeps "correcting" them. They always have a comeback because they know what the truth is. The only way to win is not to play. Flat earthers aren't trying to win, they're trying to make you lose.
They train themselves, because the belief system helps them believe they and their pet beliefs are more important than in reality. That's why you can give them arguments they cannot refute, but don't subsequently modify their beliefs accordingly.
Santos is an idiot, he wouldn’t understand Orbital or Celestial mechanics if you spent 10 years teaching him! Well done on your result lad! Keep studying hard!
What flat earthers don't realize: JTolan is literally trolling them with his videos. His claims are utterly absurd, sometimes he even declares some clouds to be mountains, very well knowing that flat earthers will believe everything. In his home/office he has real astronomical literature, pictures of the space shuttle and so on, as seen in some of his videos. Definitly not a flat earther. Also funny that Santos calls the difference in the sun's distance a lie - did he prove it? All it takes is a picture in January and one in July, done with a sun filter, the same camera and the same focal length (around 2000 mm will do, like the P900 for example). The images will clearly show that the sun appears to be about 3 % _bigger_ in January than in July. Would be funny to see how he tries to explain that ...
I still choose to believe people who sacrifice and spend their lives studying science and our universe, rather than a guy that look like he was spawned from a sewer, with a laptop and internet.
Regarding the distance to the sun - they just make up something to account for it. I am always repeating that flat earthers are conveniently using the "Azimuthal equidistant" map projection with the arctic at the center, so that Antarctica forms the rim/edge of the flat earth. Convenient because there are no commercial flights that cross Antarctica. Because otherwise just recording such a flight would pose a big problem for flat earth theory.
Santos is one of the conspiracy types that I find incredibly hard to watch. He is just so nasty, hateful and full of spite. I can't really laugh at him that much because his negativity disturbs me.
More disturbing to me is people who allow themself to get emotionally touched or offended by ramblings of an ignorant person. Grow a skin, will you? Also, from a different pov... Laughing at ignorant people is morally wrong, but you don't feel being nasty, hateful and full of spite doing that, do you?
@@damyr Grow a skin? The comment was merely stating that they find it difficult view the ridiculousness of this individual flat Earther in a humorous way because of how it felt like they were attacking others in a disrespectful way. Are people not allowed to have feelings now, or not allowed to comment their opinions? Did you see them comment asking the video to be removed or for him to not have a platform to speak his mind? I'm not saying you can't comment, I just don't understand your point. The flat earther put their video out for public viewing and therefore are open to being criticized for their content. People are allowed to express how they feel about someone's work even if it is not positive. Not to mention, he is ignorant because he is so distrustful of people that try to educate and inform him about the currently existing models so why should people feel bad for laughing at him?
Sci man dan. I am not a flat earther nor a glober I am a CONCAVE Earther. Because my dad told me that he had to walk to school 5 miles ,uphill both ways. How could that be on a flat earth or a globe. The only logical explanation is a concave Earth ...because my father would never lie ..🤪
You’re wrong, we’re on a giant rocking chair and the reason he had to go uphill both ways is because the chair rocking changes which way is uphill, if you time it right you can go downhill both ways 😮
@Chris Money He doesn't have to. Everything that Santos said has been debunked numerous times by SciManDan and so many others already. I debunked each point myself as I listened to Santos' drivel.
This guy is such a innumerate it is epic. His fallacies of incredulity are off the scale. I am quite certain he is at the peak of his Dunning-Kruger "hump". And how embarrassing putting all of that clap trap on display on RUclips. I would be mortified having this nonsense shown to the world!
yeah remember all those earthquakes when the Earth passes Mars every 2 years which can vary by 46.4 million km - the pull is so strong I have to hold onto my (tin) hat ;)
This is hilarious. He talks about the earth potentially flying off into space or falling into the sun based on distance to the sun but the fact that Jupiter and Mercury exist completely flies over his head. Genius.
He totally misses the fact that there is momentum involved along an orbital path, with a balance of forces governing the Earth's direction and velocity at any given moment. Just the fact that the Earth is in an orbit means it won't fly off or go into the Sun, energy would be required to change the orbit to give that result.
@@Mark-le2he ...mercury _is_ terrestrial. And CLOSER to the sun than earth. ...and? With the suns ... _gravitational pull_ on ALL of the planets, we ought to all be dead, right? Right? Youre trolling, i know it, you must be if you think mercury isn't a terrestrial planet.

Dan is good, but personally I prefer Professor Dave's style of wrecking them all while giving a detailed lecture on how they are wrong. Making idiots look even more stupid and for commoners like me great chance to learn more about the things we take for granted due to science.
Santos: have yourself and two friends stand in Perth, Sydney, and Auckland. Simultaneously, all of you look south. On a globe, the three of you will see the Southern Cross. On a pizza land, all three of you will be looking in different directions and will not see the same thing. We all know you won't do it, because that would destroy your grift. A shout out to Professor Dave. "Explain that."
" On a pizza land, all three of you will be looking in different directions and will not see the same thing." Nonsense, show your maths for this imaginary scenario where you believe all three location record the exact same angle to any star? Even on a globe they would be different???
You forgot to take into account that it is flatearthers that you are talking to... On the pancake map these places are still quite close so they could claim that of course they can see it. So, we have to add the point that they need to check a compass to check what degrees south the star is. =) (Although i bet they would then claim it's due to the magnetic drift or something like that...)
I like how he selectively chose to believe the whole - 1000, 10000, 100000 miles closer to the sun and we'd burn up - fact but doesn't believe pretty much anything else they presumably taught him.
"Why doesn't the sun's gravity suck us in when we are 5 million miles closer?" Because we are in orbit. We are falling towards the sun and then miss it. It is the sun's gravity (its "sucking" effect to use his terms) that is causing our orbit. I want to see how his mind works when he learns we have a faster velocity in that part of our orbit too.
It's actually counter-intuitively difficult to fall into the Sun when you start from Earth orbit. The Parker Solar Probe had to do seven swing-by maneuvers near Venus go get rid of enough kinetic energy to get close enough to the Sun to touch its corona ...
That is hard for them though. They can't even grasp that people on the ISS still have about 90% of the weight they have on earth, they just seem weightless because they are constantly falling around the earth. So if they don't understand that the mechanics of our solarsystem might be out of their reach.
Mercury is 42 million miles from the sun Earth is 94 million miles away a difference of over 50 million miles and yet mercury don't get sucked into the sun what makes him think earth would just by moving 5 million miles closer.
@@ReinoGoo gravity is constantly pulling them towards the earth. The speed they are travelling is calculated so that they are falling and moving sideways in such a way as to maintain orbit. Too slow and they would be pulled into the earth by its gravity, too fast and it would eventually end up out of orbit. At least thats my (probably horribly remembered) understanding.

That is the thing though. I would really love to know what church he supposedly learned it in because I do not believe it exists. Unless he is the high priest, himself.
And they use it to calculate the 'hidden' part of an object, without taking the observer height into account (which you can't do with the simplistic "8 inches per mile²" formula).

Dan, I love your videos, but I wish that you would go a little deeper into why the Flat Earthers and Conspiracy Theorists are wrong. For example, you could have explained to Santos that the Earth orbits the Sun in an ellipse. At perihelion, the Earth is moving fast enough to not be pulled into the Sun. And at aphelion, the Earth is moving slow enough that it doesn't fly into space. Johannes Kepler figured this stuff out in the early 1600s.
The problem is…..that flat earthers have no concept of scale or big numbers. For example, Brian’s Logic refers to ‘our opposition’ as if it were the relatively few debunking channels and not the entirety of the scientific community of planet earth! Same for Santos…as you say, Kepler had this figured out, Newton gave us physical laws that pretty accurately predict things at sub light speed. Anyone who completed secondary education/ High School or whatever should be familiar with these. It’s only unschooled idiots who buy into conspiretard nonsense and who have no knowledge of the vast amount of evidence in favour of a heliocentric model that spread unschooled bullocks on RUclips, because? Well, basically because they are stupid. Simple is as simple does.
Yeah, but Kepler had more kinetics knowledge then than all the flerfs have in 2022. It's no use trying to explain 1/r^r fields, and the resulting elliptical orbits, to a flerf with kindergarten maths:(

The most time and energy I have spent on a "flat-Earther" is that I asked him "Are you joking or do you really believe that?", and when he said he actually believes it, I just said "OK", and that was the end of it. No point in trying to convince him of something all of the science and facts couldn't convince him. Some people are simply meant to be astray.
Absolutely. There was a bbc article from a psycologist that spoke about the futility of trying to convince a conspiracy theorist of not believing their nonsense. What you have to do is in fact understand the environment that created their mindset and attack that. Yeah, when he started talking about the eccentricity of Earth's orbit, I was expecting him to go into seasons, since he had mentioned them leading up to it. Instead, we get mangled orbital mechanics with absolutely no physics, just the implication that if we were farther from the Sun, we'd drift away from it, and if we were closer to the Sun, we'd fall into it. Five minutes reading an introduction to orbital mechanics would have cleared all that up, but that would be falling for the indoctrination, and since we know that the Earth is flat, the indoctrination must exist, otherwise everyone would know that the Earth is flat, so we can't trust any evidence that anyone provides unless it supports the Earth being flat.

Most of the flat earth community seems to be pre-school dropouts. Learned the characters of the alphabet and numbers, then "thought" they had learned enough.
Most flat Earthers usually have learned it, but they do not understand it and so think it is a lie, a conspiracy of some kind, and so delude themselves to believe a completely absurd belief instead.
Its funny how they always resort to name calling and personal attacks or just state that something is wrong or false with no actual rebuttal to anyone questioning. "Why doesn't X because of Y?" Thats the least of their worries. On a flat earth the sun would be visible on any part of the pizza world at any time . Then that leads to the problem of how on earth ( no pun intended ), does the sun manage to light up only a specific sections of the pizza world. And then it has to match reality etc etc.
I think if you could get a truthful answer (I know it's unlikely though) it would have to be God. They use the bible as a scientific/historical text after all.

Remember that a large chunk of his income and his 'notoriety' depends on preaching the flat earth. He might well know he is talking bullshit. Once you know some basic maths and physics, there is no way you can think the Earth is flat,, the evidence for the globe is overwhelming. Anyone once they think about it, can show how the differing times of totality of the 2017 total eclipse as it moved across the US, showed the shape of the Earth. Simple calculation demonstrates that the supposed flat earth Sun would have to dramatically change both its speed, height and therefore its size as it moves across the flat earth. The FE claim it is about 3,000 miles high, is ridiculously easy to show as bollocks.
it's unlikely he was seeing what he thought he was seeing if he was in Kansas. that is more likely the Missouri River (not the Mississippi) and he definitely isn't seeing the great lakes either unless he's on a stratospheric flight, since at the cruising altitude of most commercial flights, the horizon is about as far away as the width of Kansas. also, why do i get the feeling that all these flat-earthers who keep bringing up the perihelion/aphelion fact because it's contradictory with a non-fact that they believed from childhood would also be the kinds of people to say "*ackshually the earth's orbit is an ellipse you globetard" if anyone mistakenly or short-handedly referred to the orbit as circular.

I love the fact that the image on the laptop which he claims proves the flat Earth actually proves that the Earth is spherical, as the horizon is clearly curved.
Please let's remember that, at that height, the globe earth and the disk earth would both have a curved upper edge. This is just one of those arguments that flat-earthers haven't thought through. And because of them, also normal people these days.
@@MrHistorian123 I see - do you care to quantify that - or is it just a throwaway line? In fact it was only the fact that it was 'curved' that you alluded to before. I am just pointing out that a curved horizon at altitude does not distinguish between a globe or a disk shaped earth. Other easily observable phenomina, however, do. Why get excited about something that doesn't alter the argument either way?
You’d think he would take all this information and come to the conclusion that what he was told about the earth being out 500 miles from its current orbit causing it to crash or shoot off is wrong. Instead he decides to believe the globe is a lie. Ladies and gentleman. Confirmation bias. May I present exhibit A.
He ignores the curve at the top of the screen the whole time from 3:23 even through the video of the river. But you know, why use the whole screen when you can't grasp what you are looking at is filmed from 1000s of feet in the sky?
I wonder why they don't just send a camera to the stratosphere with a weather balloon. It's not hard nor expensive - there are many videos showing how to do it. If they say that the existing footage has been made with fisheye lenses, why can't they just launch their own camera with a normal flat lens?
Haven't even watched the video yet but I will apologize in advance from all Australians (well most, Mitch and others are the exception), these people are a blight and an embarrassment on our country

Ah yes. What WOULD we do without flat earthers? They should make it mandatory to have at least one flat Earther in every science class in high school and college. It would cause all the other students to do more research simply to have a good old time debunking their lunacy, which would also have the side effect of causing higher grades and understanding. Plus it would help keep up morale. 😂
Be careful of what you wish for, in the US this would undoubtedly lead to teaching flat earth. Same scenario as with creationism, simply ignore science. It's kinda like they ignore scale on purpose. I haven't met one yet that can process the 1° per 112 km yet. And JTolans "long" views are mostly based on not knowing the scale of the terrain or objects he's seeing: Lake Simcoe at 80 miles becomes the Hudson at 1000 miles.

Just estimating 20 times "is it now nearer or farther?"
E.g that things MUST accelerate.
Flat Earthers never follow their own advice. They're just a bunch of deluded clowns.

His name is JTrollan ^^
The difference in distance to the sun is proved by the time equation and Kepler's laws of planetary motion.
Also what flat earthers don’t realize is, if the earth was really flat we would say „see you a flat“ instead of „see you around“

It's actually counter-intuitively difficult to fall into the Sun when you start from Earth orbit. The Parker Solar Probe had to do seven swing-by maneuvers near Venus go get rid of enough kinetic energy to get close enough to the Sun to touch its corona ...
That is hard for them though. you agree with santos then> you a flat earther then>>??
Dan, I love your videos, but I wish that you would go a little deeper into why the Flat Earthers and Conspiracy Theorists are wrong. For example, you could have explained to Santos that the Earth orbits the Sun in an ellipse. At perihelion, the Earth is moving fast enough to not be pulled into the Sun. And at aphelion, the Earth is moving slow enough that it doesn't fly into space. Johannes Kepler figured this stuff out in the early 1600s.
He really wouldn't understand that at all, nor would it change anything about how he views anything.

Absolutely. There was a bbc article from a psycologist that spoke about the futility of trying to convince a conspiracy theorist of not believing their nonsense.

Gravity doesn't suck, just like vacuums don't suck.... why are flat earthers obsessed with misinterpreting everything in physics to be a sucking action.
"Flearths" Love it!
It is difficult to understand how these flat earthers find the streangth to be as ignorant as they are. I do find it entertaining to watch. But even if their belief that the earth is flat could be considered harmless, it is as a gateway in to some very disturbing conspiracy theories.
Thank you Dan for all the work you do. Greetings from Sweden. (Sorry if my English is not perfect). Cheers.
your english was perfect.
Way better than my Swedish. I think it runs to IKEA, Volvo and Saab and I'm probably prounouncing them wrong🤣
There 7 billion people on this Earth..... its absolutly normal to have at least 10 million idiots
Might have been equally amazed until I were witness to those so easily deceived by a red headed narcissistic clown with megalomaniacal contempt enough to trade nuclear secrets with Saudi Arabian prince, just as a show and tell to show off how big a greedy fool he is!!! Not hugging the flag, but rather, wiping his fat spreading arse with it.
As said above your English is flawless.:)
Flat earthers like the 8 inches per mile approximation because it's just barely within their math skills. Doing the actual trigonometry is unreasonable.
"I remember when they told us this in Church....1000 miles closer and we would be pulled into the sun."
This man gets his information from people who already base their lives on a fairy tale....holy fuck.
Actually lol’d at this
Not really santos bonacci is a very knowledgeable individual

@@aszh You people are fucking insane. You shouldn't be allowed to drive, vote, work in public, interact with other humans, etc. You have a problem and you do nothing but harm the rest of society with your idiocy. Wake. up.
I work in Aerospace and I'm excited to see my work come to fruition at the Artemis 1 launch at the end of the month. Thanks Dan for cutting through their bullshit.
Can't wait to see it! Hello Moon, human beings are on their way back! I know this will be just a test flight, but in a couple of years, mankind will once again set foot upon our nearest neighbor in space. Thank you for your hard work helping make it happen.
Congratulations, wish you lots of success for the launch! Those flat-earthers are so crazy they think everything space-related is a hoax.
Cutting through them like butter. And reminding them they're margarine.
@O.P., Are you aware of the patents/tech they keep away from you guys?
Wouldn't you rather work with the most advanced up-to-date technology?
@@darrylgonzalez5251 you would be amazed by the base they already have there .. And the one on Mars ..
He can photograph mountains from 600 miles away? BS. The world record distance photo is of a mountain top, FROM a mountain top, and is 275 miles.
Gotta lie to flerf.
It's very funny to me how flat earthers are just unable to comprehend the concept of "elevation".
Also, "I remember in school that they would say that if the Earth were just a thousand miles closer to the sun, we would be drawn into the sun and burn up". Why am I not surprised that a flat earther didn't pay attention in school and just made some stuff up?
Please remember, 'flat earthers can be found all around the globe', and that's their advert!! 😁😂
It's a flat globe! A 'flobe', if you will.
I normally do watch the whole video before commenting but this time I just wanted to express how utterly confused my brain got hearing the words "I ran a marathon this morning before...". I mean I dunno how literal you were being but it never occurred to me that anyone would do anything after a marathon run but fall over and just lie there. That's about all I can do if I have to run thirty metres. So, you know: well done. 👍
He's so delusional that a jog around the block is a marathon and he's better than Olympic athletes.
Uh-huh. He's delusional. Okay, "@@TheGuruStud".
I remember this tv program in Belgium a few years back about a guy running 365 marathons in a year and he had a normal 9-5job. Seems crazy to me but deffinently possible to do it as your "morning workout" people call me crazy for biking 150km to get to where I need to go while I could've taken a train. But I'm not too active after that usually 😄
Evolution is just a theory, so you have to also teach the alternative creation theory. As globe earth is also just a theory you have to teach the alternative flat theory as well. Just join the flat earth and young earth "movements" and it will happen.
@@jensrogerkristoffersen5472 don't they already do? They teach that the shape of the earth is up to your interpretation, evolution is a matter of belief, the only constant thing is that their country is the best. It is, only they are holding the list upside down 🤣🤣🤣
"The 8in per mile squared that the Globies [normal people] tell you is erroneous..."
That's funny. I've only heard people in the Flat Earth cult make that claim.
6:55 he starts saying one of the stupidest things i heard in a long time.
I literally fell off my chair laughing at this clown.
Where are the people who say "flat earhers don't hurt anybody" while I'm clearly hurt by his words?
Santos is crazier than a patient in an insane asylum that is taking LSD.
So what you on fool ?
Something to change your hormones 😃😂😁

I know it's hard to comprehend the sheer massive dimensions of everything being discussed here, but flat earthers really have no clue about the scale and size of the planets, sun and everything in between, they just can't visualize how big stuff is and I think that's the entire problem. Or most of it
It's kinda like they ignore scale on purpose. I haven't met one yet that can process the 1° per 112 km yet. And JTolans "long" views are mostly based on not knowing the scale of the terrain or objects he's seeing: Lake Simcoe at 80 miles becomes the Hudson at 1000 miles.
Or in this specific video: Lake fox at 300 miles becomes Winnebago at 390 whilst the Michigan becomes the Hudson at 1200
Agreed, sense of scale is one of the biggest obstacles pretty much every flat earther has not overcome. Same goes for space deniers, obviously far more disastrous conclusions there!
@@thepooz7205 I get the feeling they purposely won't try to understand either. Seeing by the way they get everything explained to them and yet are on another page saying the same things the next day.
'Many tests have been done with lasers'
'A... 15 degree per hour drift'
'Thanks Bob!'
