  • "The Blur" is a documentary on Dayton native and former Kentucky and Southern Cal guard Dwight Anderson - the greatest basketball player many have never heard of. Dwight is considered by NBA greats - Isiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkins and others - as a can't miss player. Isiah Thomas said Dwight was the Michael Jordan of his era. But despite a career destined for greatness, Dwight fell to substance abuse which eventually led to homelessness. This is a film on Dwight's rise, fall and rise again.

I was a Kentucky fan who remembers Dwight vividly, particularly that one-person performance he put on in the Notre Dame game. Today, I'm delighted that Dwight won the _real_ game, the one to live with freedom and health.

Amazing Player and though the Man had his Demons, by God’s Grace and Mercy he overcame them in the end. A Beautiful Story. RIP Brother🙏

This just brought tears to my eyes! As a kid from Kentucky and now my many years at 76, I believe Dwight Anderson to be the greatest player to have played for Kentucky based on his short time there before leaving for USC. To sidestep a moment, I coached middle school and freshmen basketball at two different schools in northeastern Kentucky when a kid named OJ Mayo came to a small Rose Hill Christian school from Huntington, WV and had the honor of knowing and coaching against him. I considered him as being the middle school Dwight Anderson, but sadly now after seeing this video am reminded that OJ followed his same college road to USC. Dwight Anderson had the speed of a track star and only John Wall has come close to Dwight's ability at Kentucky. Memories of the ND game and seeing the actual USC game and the over the backboard shot which was only achieved by Dwight's tremendous speed to run down the pass, but making the shot was insane!!! Any kid growing up with the talent and desire to play basketball needs to see this video and really any other kid in today's world too. Dwight Anderson will make you a better person, not a better basketball player, but a better person!!! RIP Dwight...

Great story. Excellent job. I consider Dwight to be the Marcus Dupree of Basketball. Greatness that we didn't get to see come to fruition.

I went to Roth H.S. 76-78 saw Dwight play; dude avg a triple dbl. He avg almost 40 a game. It was like watching a man play amongst children.I joined the Navy in '82 and became friends with the son of Dwight's coach at USC. He would tell me about Dwight's greatness but also what would be the beginning of his downfall. I don't judge Dwight, the 80's was brutal, NO ONE knew the devastating effect crack would have on an individual or ultimately the communities across America.
Great seeing another legend: Roth H.S. principal 'Big Jim' (Butch) Caldwell at the end. He was the greatest principal ever. RIP to them both-

I'm the same age Dwight would be if he were still with us. RIP
I played against him in high school and against John Paxson as well.
Our coach got us a preseason scrimmage game at Roth. It was to be a 4 quarters game, but by the 3rd quarter the score was so far out of hand our coach thru the white towel of surrender.
I'm pretty sure Dwight had 50 by the 3rd quarter.
What an amazing talent to have witnessed.
Born in Dayton Ohio 1960, still a Flyers fan to this day and will forever remember the greatest Basketball player from Dayton, Dwight Anderson!

Thankful for my friend Branson Wright telling the story of one of my favorite basketball players based on his potential. Dwight was a”generational” athlete with unmatched skills on the court. Later, in his professional life, I had the opportunity to promote him with his brief career with the Cincinnati Slammers of the CBA. His talents were amazing. We played an exhibition game in Dayton. After the game, he was arrested for not paying child support. I went to the holding cell and spoke to Dwight and he gave me the judge’s name. I called the judge at home and his first question he asked me was “how many points did he have?” Dwight was released as he had previously paid. But, the judge’s reaction reinforced how Dayton loved him. I’m so glad at the end of his life that he started to listen to God‘s Way and in the end he found his way to peace after a troubled life.

I was at USC from 1980 to 1983 during the Marcus Allen era of Trojan football. As exciting as that was the only sport play that I still remember vividly to this day was not any of Marcus Allen runs, of which there were certainly many that were memorable, but a basketball shot, the Dwight Anderson over the backboard-fast-break basket. At that time, the woman's game was played right before the men's game and if you got there early enough there was a row of chairs center court on the floor on the opposite side from the benches for students, first come first serve. That is where I was sitting during that game, when Dwight made that shot. Unbelievable!

I remember him well, I worked in the Dayton area for years, before that i was just a kid in the hills of Kentucky. I stayed up late to watch the ND game rerun. I thought how could he score 28 when he didnt have many in the first half, thats when i found out why he was called the blur, from what i remember

I was 14 years old back in the day when college basketball games came on after the local evening news. I saw him put on a performance against Notre Dame that was one for the ages. He was amazing and he did it coming off the bench. He later transferred to USC and since I'm on the west coast I get to see him do even more amazing things. He's one of the greatest college players I have ever seen. Very glad to see this documentary but saddened to hear of his passing.
