    Nice job on the sheath. Very traditional and well done. The music was a bit too much though.

    Hi what is the tool that you are using in the video to mark out the design in the leather and do you cut the final design into the leather?
    Greate video love it

  • @sloanIrrigation

    Anyone know what kind of tool he uses to scroll his leather?

    • @coryflintoff9872
      @coryflintoff9872 6 лет назад

      looks like a metal stylus. You could use anything with a hard point on the end. You could round the end of a nail and use that. Wet leather will take details pretty well. I would also get a couple tools for stamping. My favorite is a backgrounding tool that depresses the leather in a crosshatch pattern. This allows your picture to POP out better. Tandy Leather is a great source for info and tools.

    Only thing I would have done differently is I would have glued the wooden sheath inside the leather. Excellent work. takes skill to etch that design into the leather without a template of some sort. enjoyed watching.

    • @onnissinen
      @onnissinen 7 лет назад +1

      Glue is not needed at all! In fact its even easier to make without. When leather dries it stretch that wood inside and it won´t move. This is traditional Finnish way to make sheath but i`m not sure if its used in Norway and Sweden but for example i have never seen anybody making this kind of sheat in USA. But of course it seems to be used in German (i guess)

    the end result looks amazing, however, I saw some very unsafe techniques with the band saw and your knife. you are getting your fingers too close to the bandsaw and you are using the knife to cut towards your hand, it would be a horrible shame if your hand were to slip and you were to end up maiming yourself to the point that you could no longer practice your craft. I'm just asking that you please be more careful because it would be a shame to lose your skill.

    I, Swedish, once asked a Finnish Woman, who I had worked with for 5-6-7-more years (Woman to Woman, no body else around) "What does pukko really mean?
    She looked at me and said" WHO taught you that word? " I am still not sure, but I have never dared to ask a Finn again.
    I thought, what kind of knife... But there is more to it. I am Swedish. 100%. Well, a little Finn, 200-300 years ago...

    • @oscarsimpsonjacka7917
      @oscarsimpsonjacka7917 5 лет назад

      Weird
      Google translate says it means knife or sheath knife. I know it’s inaccurate but that’s usually on the grammar and not the words themselves

    • @ann-catherinemorner7499
      @ann-catherinemorner7499 5 лет назад +2

      @@oscarsimpsonjacka7917 Well, yes. But. In Swedish, we call someone a "Pucko" when we think they are more than allowably stupid.
      Did some Gooling myself. (And should have remebered). Puken is another name for the devil. Possibly a "heathen" devil. That is to say, before those dam*ed Christians came and displaced the old, native Gods. Who were not quite the same in Sweden and Finland, but recognisable, overlapping. In Swedish :"You are a Pucko" = idiot. In Finnish = "You are a (the) Devil". So, sorry, my bad. Could have looked it up.

      @@ann-catherinemorner7499 du kanske menar " beng" i huvudet . Det kommer från zigenskt språk o betyder djävulen. Finska namnet Puukko . Har inget med svenska ordet " pucko" o göra. Puukko means to finnish people that is finnish made knife. And have a leather
