for those wondering, yes, they're that chubby naturally. they use the far as insulation from the ocean and to help them swim as it helps with buoyancy. obviously due to the evolutionary path they took, they pretty much lost all mammalian appendages like arms and legs and finger digits.
Normally seals are still kind of chubby (they need fat to survive in the wild) but these guys are extra fat, they don’t need this much fat in safe and stable environments like zoos and aquariums...

The one seal just floating there with his body upright, like a security guard. Situation normal, the hoomans are still on their side of the invisible barrier.
