I ate SO much LSD. When they played Dragonaut I looked in the sky and the planes flying into BWI were leaving such profound trails I thought they were rocket ships. You couldn't convince me that Al wasn't an evil wizard on stage channeling black magic with his bass and Matt was trying to break through the concrete and rip up the ground from beneath my feet with each chord. The waves of long haired sweating creatures all moving in unison behind me was really making me bug out. Coolest shit ever.
Not sure why my other comment got spammed, but whatever...this video...two words...fucking epic! Those words get misused quite often, but I can tell you after 40 years and hundreds of shows this was something special and Frank captured it perfectly....right down to the end when Al places his bass into the camera...fucking perfection...this shit belongs in a fucking museum or a time capsule or something because it's the real deal. Thanks Frank.
got to meet them behind this stage leading up to their set. they are all so nice, especially Al. he's really quiet, but just a really nice, modest dude. i was smoking a joint and headbanging so hard right next to that brick wall to Al's right. best day ever.
Ya know...I kinda wish they'd play stuff off of Vol. 1 live. Whenever I see videos of Sleep playing anywhere its always stuff from Holy Mountain, Dopesmoker, or Antarcticans Thawed.
saw them in Abq on the 4th. They may be the ugliest band that is currently touring, but they are also probably the best, tightest band that is currently touring.
I’ve seen Sleep 6-7 times, they’re one of my favorite all-time bands, and this was easily the worst show. I don’t understand how anyone could watch this and think otherwise. Especially if you saw the full show at the time. It got really ugly. Matt was off-time most of the time. People around me were bewildered. Plus, they overplayed so later that night Venom got cut off, causing a minor riot.
I was there and this couldn't be further from the truth. Plus nobody wanted to hear all that post-1985 material that Venom was playing prior to getting cut off anyway.
