James Purefoy is the ultimate character actor .. he is a good man playing an awfully bad man .. and that shows his quintessential and chameleonic abilities as an actor .. James Purefoy gives excellent interviews ., he is extremely knowledgable of his character ., and that is why he is so believable as whatever character he plays .. James Purefoy has the uncanny ability to make you understand ..and even feel sorry for .. to emphasize.. with the most deplorable of characters .. that is the mark of an actor extraordinaire.. which James surely is .. I love James Purefoy and the acting that he does he does it in such a way that it's almost like a seduction you begin to feel for the bad guy or even if he's playing for the good guy it's something you can't walk away from and I know that from watching his movies it's like it brings you in deeper and deeper and deeper into the character you're trying to get to know more and more about this character and the more you know about this character the more you feel a kinship to that character he's an outstanding actor that's all I can say I love the following it is phenomenal and it's like watching Clarice and Hannibal lecter change back and forth between their interaction with each other and talking to each other that nobody else can understand what they're saying except each other that's how Joe Carroll is with Hardy magnificent casting is part of the following most definitely so❤

I fell in love with James when he was in Knights Tale. I did not like him in "The following". Thought it wasn't right for him because I know this is a nice man not a phycho path. I just couldn't wrap my mind around it and watched every episode all three seasons. I would never watch a series like that and never will again. The killing was overkill and too much! I want to see him in a nice role! Beautiful man is James Purefoy.

You want to "see him in a nice role". You sound goofy as hell. Thank God James isn't taking acting advice from the likes of you. He'd be stuck playing boring good guys all the time, because you can't seem to separate fiction from reality.
I loved the psychological elements of the show, and I do agree more of that and less shock and awe would have made the show better. It might have lasted only three seasons because it was too much?!
