Newport Body Cam Footage of Wedding Brawl at Bowen's Wharf

Body camera footage has been released by Newport Police after GoLocal submitted an Access to Public Records request. The incident happened after midnight on Saturday on Bowen's Wharf. In the video, a female is seen attempting to kick an officer in the groin. It appears the melee begins after one member of the wedding party doesn't comply with police and is detained.

These officers should commended not charged with anything. When an officer feels his life or one of there fellow officers are in harms way the their actions escalate according to the situation. I seeing maybe 4 or 5 officers and a dozen drunk belligerent idiots. Who chose to interfere with the officers making an arrest or trying to detain someone. 1st screw up on there part. Then striking an officer. 2nd strike. Threatening and attempting to disrupt an ongoing arrest. 3rd strike. Its not rocket science. The woman that got knocked out. Sucks it happened but it was necessary action in order to separate her from the male individual so they to be arrested individually. That means in the situation he was in... any means necessary. Couldn't pepper Spray with risking hitting another officer. Same with a taser. It'll go thru the skin contact. So physical was necessary and applied. You officers did the right thing. Support the blue.
