    S'mores are not authentic unless the marshmallows have been toasted over a fire and at least slightly burned.

    • @Kat22Kit
      @Kat22Kit 7 лет назад +10

      It can be over a campfire, fire pit, BBQ, fire place or even the flame on your gas stove but yeah the marshmallows must be toasted before you sandwich the graham crackers.

      SDWNJ you are so right. without roasting the marshmallows, s'mores are nasty!

    This was funny some of those sweets I have never seen before.
    I am a Brit who lives in America. I think when you are used to English Chocolate Hersheys Chocolate tastes very odd.
    I hardly even classify it as chocolate, still eat Cadburies, English chocolate bars or Kit kat or Ethel M, Sees candies, Russel stovers, which are all American Chocolate and very good..
    I agree the Butterfinger is awful but my son loves it. great show again.

    • @julie707
      @julie707 7 лет назад +1

      PinkElephantTV1 oh, I hate Hersheys chocolate! They add a "souring" agent - said to taste like vomit - in order to make them taste like the chocolate made during ww2 for soldiers. According to the lore, milk was in short supply, so they put in sour milk to use it up. I think it's nasty- tasting.

      PinkElephantTV1 I like both English and American chocolate, it's like comparing come to Pepsi, both very good

    • @PinkElephantTV1
      @PinkElephantTV1 7 лет назад

      Wow, There is something odd about it, I think I heard somebody say there was something odd in it before. yes I agree. @julie707

    • @PinkElephantTV1
      @PinkElephantTV1 7 лет назад

      Yes, I like the ones mentioned above that I have found so far. I think some can be like comparing Pepsi to Coke and some American Chocolate has its own very distinct taste.
      On the whole, I love Milk Chocolate and this makes it easier to find a more uniform taste for me.
      Sees candy is the one I have found that tastes the most similar.

    • @CynthiaPrice79
      @CynthiaPrice79 7 лет назад +1

      PinkElephantTV1 because it isn't chocolate. It doesn't contain enough cacao/cocoa butter to pass chocolatiers' standards. I'm not allergic to chocolate, but I'm allergic to cheap milk chocolate, because additives/improper cooling techniques that produce a mold.

      You ended up with some special mix of Kisses (rainbow? Spring?). Normally they're plain silver for the regular type.

    • @BostonG
      @BostonG 7 лет назад +2

      I disagree, a fresh Strawberry Twizzler is really good, but only when fresh. Red Vines taste like pure corn syrup to me. I guess it's all where your raised, East coasters seem to be Twizzler people, West coasters are Red Vine people.

    Hi guys!🌺
    Yes we love mint M&Ms here in Hawaii😄 The pretzel ones are meh, but I'm generally not a fan of milk choco as it's muuuch too sweet🤢. If I get the chance I'll send over some of the nommiest choco from my fave place back home in Silicon Valley, 💝See's Candy💝
    Ps - the unnecessary close up that fly did startled the heck out of sleepy me😱🤣

    • @CynthiaPrice79
      @CynthiaPrice79 7 лет назад +1

      CharziParziPuddinPie I think the PB M&Ms are the best. I'm not a fan of milk chocolate, though, because most American mass market milk chocolate doesn't actually contain enough cacao to be considered chocolate by the pros, and Hershey's is awful these days in general. I'm also allergic to a common additive in American mass market chocolate. I can eat high end and/or dark chocolate (70% is ideal) without a problem.

    • @charzipuddin6129
      @charzipuddin6129 7 лет назад +1

      Cynthia Price I love the PB ones best, too!😃 IMO, PB is its own food group😁
      Although my sisters and I are US born, our parents sailed over to the states from NL, so we grew up with lots of really good chocolates and stuff that was either sent or brought by relatives, or we found goodies in the Dutch bakery that used to be in San Jose, Cali (now they do online orders only, but it hardly matters to us bc we all eventually moved to one of these rocks in the middle of the ocean, meh). Milk chocolate is gross to me UNLESS it's PB M&Ms, mint M&Ms, or from See's Candies, but even then it's too sweet for me😝 😄
      Yeah, Jelly Belly Beans! (Have you been to the Jelly Belly factory? It's another reason I miss CA). What flavors do you like? Plum, peach, pear, green apple are some of my faves😋

    • @CynthiaPrice79
      @CynthiaPrice79 7 лет назад +1

      CharziParziPuddinPie I LOVED See's growing up in Northern Cali! Now, I live in Eugene, OR where we have Euphoria chocolate! OMG YUM! It was traditional for everyone to get a package from See's for Christmas, Easter, birthday, etc in my family.

    • @CynthiaPrice79
      @CynthiaPrice79 7 лет назад +1

      CharziParziPuddinPie As to Jelly Belly, I have not been to the factory! Where in CA is it? I love most all, except the white ones, licorice ones, chocolate ones, and buttered popcorn (there are a couple others I don't care for, but those are the ones I immediately remove). Otherwise, my favorites are probably the sours, and most of the fruits, especially apple and peach.

    • @charzipuddin6129
      @charzipuddin6129 7 лет назад +1

      Cynthia Price oh very cool! In what city did you live? We lived in Santa Clara💝
      Jelly Belly is in Fairfield, a very nice place from what I remember (was there last in 1998? Something like that). I've lived here in Hawaii for only 5.5 years myself (I hate it here), but everyone else in my fam has been here much longer.
      I have so got to try getting a hold of the choco you mentioned! I totally wish Cost Plus World Market was out here, and Trader Joe's (I worked at a TJ's for a bit)😁

  • @Ty_The_Bonsai_Guy
    @Ty_The_Bonsai_Guy 7 лет назад

    we call the S'mores because once you eat one you want some more. 😆 I'm not sure why but it seems the majority of British people don't like peanut butter. We love it over here. Butter Fingers are one of the most popular candy bars we have. I must admit that you Brits have better chocolate than we do here in the USA. American candy makers usually add confectioners wax to our chocolate to make it less likely to melt in your hand. I'd rather have melty chocolate that tastes good than waxy chocolate. Great show guys.

    Brits have had little experience with peanut butter and peanuts in general. It is not a crop that grows well there and has to be imported, thus costing more. Had they been raised on it no doubt they would not be turning up their noses at a Butterfinger.

    M &M's- Our most common is plain and Peanut M&Ms lately they added almond and peanut butter and crispy. I have not seen the mint nor pretzel.
    Kisses, Theres a lot of types, silver is solid chocolate, Gold is almonds , there's cherry ones that are delicious and mint.
    My top candies: Plain M&Ms, Chocolate covered cherries, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Snicker bars, tootsie rolls, Tootsie roll Pops, Jelly Belly Jelly Beans, Junior Mints and Jolly rancher hard candies.

    Another great episode! None of the mentioned candies are among my favorites, but I don't care for marshmallows, peanut butter, or jelly beans. I'm a chocoholic through and through. :) The cheaper chocolates here in the U.S. don't contain cocoa butter, whereas British and European chocolates do. Makes a big difference in the taste! Loved Hershey's as a kid, but they are blah now that I've tasted the real thing. I do like Almond Joys or Mounds bars (coconut, with or without almonds, covered in chocolate). If you do decide to make some "authentic" s'mores over a campfire as suggested by others, get some extra marshmallows, and let them roast to a crisp, then pull off the burnt outer layer and eat it. Careful, it's hot! :) Nothing like burnt sugar while camping, brings back childhood memories. You can get a couple of roasts out of one marshmallow. And campfire toasted marshmallows taste much better than ones straight from the package.

    I have never seen or tried Raspberry, Wild Berry, Lemonade flavored Twizzlers, but Cherry Twizzlers are very popular in the US. Butterfingers are also quite popular, but as you pointed out, people either love them or hate them. Mike & Ike's have been around since the 1940s and until about 5 years ago, most Americans thought of it as an "Old" or "Retro Candy", in 2012 the company that makes them launched a huge advertising campaign targeting the teen market which significantly revived and increased Mike & Ike sales.
    The Mint M&Ms are available, but I normally find them as part of a "Seasonal Promotion" at Christmas or some other time of year. Hershey Kisses while very common and popular in America, in my opinion, they only taste ok, I think this is because it is designed not to melt at room temperature and as milk chocolate goes it not taste very good.
    I have never seen "Smores" sold like you had them (as a "Smores" package), normally this is a "Camping Snack" for kids, and it not sold as a Candy. We buy a box of "Graham Crackers", some Milk Chocolate bars and marshmallows. The marshmallows should then be toasted to a (Golden Brown) over hot coals from a campfire using a long stick. Toasted marshmallows taste much better than microwaved. This cooking process also makes it much messier and more fun for kids (and kids at heart, like me who love this overly sweet camping treat), at least I love it after spending three or more nights sleeping in the Rocky Mountains or one of the Deserts of the American Southwest.
    For the Best American Candy, you need to taste some "Jelly Belly Gourmet" brand jelly beans.

    I think it's important to note that the Butterfinger bar is the original/classic, and the Butterfinger Bites you have are a bit more recent I think. The bar version is much bigger and features a higher concentration of that flakey peanut butter stuff, and not nearly as much chocolate by volume. If you don't like American chocolate or peanut butter, I can see how you wouldn't care for it. More for us, then!
    Related, do you have Reese's Peanut Butter Cups? If so, what's your opinion on those?

    Butterfingers are great. And peanut M&Ms are the best. Mike and Ike are not so much.
    I'm looking forward to the great British pizza. I can't imagine what that will be like.

    You two fellas out to try some of the Mexican candy we have avaliable here in California, as well as their chocolate cinnamon disks that make a tasty but somewhat gritty coco. It's called, Abuella (little grandmother). The Mexicans like candy with a kick of chili or tamarind.

    # 1 favorite here is plain M & Ms. Any M & M really.#2 is Snickers (think babe ruth but not as good). Mike n Ike are my favorite non chocolate. Dots are too. You guys really missed out on not trying Good n Plenty, (same company as Mike n Ike), black licorice that is candy coated, trust me on this one. You missed out on Mounds and Almond Joy, "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't." Must like coconuts in this case. Fabulous show, I subscribed!

    I may be picky but Hershey's chocolate, a single jet puffed marshmallow that's been slightly toasted or burned to all holy hell on the outside and Honey Maid Golden Graham crackers make authentic s'mores.

    why do so many people in the UK & Europe hate peanut butter? PS. marshmallows for smores are intended to be toastef over an open fire until they are golden brown.

  • @slade307
    @slade307 7 лет назад +1

    Mint chocolate is somewhat popular. Not my favorite.
    I don't care for licorice candy. I don't like Twizzlers or Red Vines.
    Butterfingers are normally a 5-6 inch single piece.
    S'mores is normally a campfire things. I guess they could be made in the oven. A microwave isn't going to brown or burn the marshmallow.
    Mike & Ike have a variety of flavors.
    Not the best sample but I'm not sure what is also sold in the UK. I think some items are manufactured in both countries like Mars used to be available here in the US. Unless there was another merger I missed, those M&Ms probably have a Mars/M&M logo somewhere on the wrapper. In the US, they do.
    It's seems the most popular candy here are Snickers, Milky Way, Twix, Reeses (the peanut butter cups), M&M (plain or peanuts), Hersheys (plain or almonds), Crunch, Kit-Kat, Jelly Belly, SweetTarts, Spree, Life Savers, Nerds, Almond Joy, Mounds. I see these stocked at almost every store. I probably left a few items off that list. Many of them might have like 5 different versions based on the original candy - white or dark chocolate, different nuts. There are multiple Snickers - original, almond, crispy (rice krispies), hazelnut, peanut butter, 3x chocolate.
    I tend to prefer the lesser known stuff that is hard to find. Possibly regional stuff. I don't remember all of the names. I just recognize them when I see them.

    A plain Hershey bar is the taste of American chocolate. All other chocolates are judged by the Hershey bar standard

    Ya, the Smores thing is a complete miss and wildly inauthentic. Most people say to blacken the marshmallow and slightly melt the chocolate. I however prefer to gently toast the marshmallow golden brown until just before it catches finally catches fire then sandwich it with pieces of chilled chocolate. You get the crispy graham cracker, then the cold snap/crunch of the chocolate, with a crisp on the "skin" and gooey but not liquidy marshmallow. The hot and cold is a great contrast. A real fire is a must however in any event. Microwaving doesn't get the same effect, baking it makes it a soup, and a gas grill is like putting a gas soaked sponge in your mouth.
    Twizzlers are really hit and miss. The original are garbage and taste like the faintest memory of strawberry infused in edible plastic. The only other original version I've had is the chocolate one, and at least it tastes more like what it says it does, but it still isn't good at all. The other varieties like pull and peel, twists, and filled are hit and miss. The pull and peel cherry and watermelon varieties are fantastic. There is a filled one I had that was ok I guess. The twists flavors are the same. The citrus ones are on the same level as the original strawberry is, while the rest of the flavors in the pack have even less taste than that.

    Hershey's is a guaranteed buzz-kill. If you want American chocolate that actually tastes good, you need to go for the lesser known brands, many of which are fairly upscale. Even Trader Joe's chocolate is better than Hershey's, and that's mainly due to the higher cacao percentage. Cheaper brands tend to have smaller amounts of cacao, and the fats in them are often adulterated with oils, giving them a waxy mouth feel.

    Now you're talking my language ! Oh, and yes Greg, Jason is correct we call it candy in the US. First, sorry for your poor selection of American candies, mint M&M's are not that common, right now they are introducing a new caramel flavor which I'm anxious to try. That flavor of Twizzlers is an abomination, the only true flavor is strawberry which I really like and it's not the texture of the pull'n'peel. Most people like Butterfingers although it's never been my favorite. Mike & Ike are okay, but Jelly Belly's are the bomb ! So many flavors ! Skittles would have been a good selection if available. All the comments about how to have a S'more are true...campfire a necessity, but since I grew up with peanut butter, adding that makes its really good. As for Hershey chocolate, subpar to Cadbury. We don't really do chocolate very well for the masses, I buy local or Cadbury.
    If you do this again try,
    Milky Way, Mounds, Almond Joy, Kit Kat, Hundred Thousand Dollar Bar, Jelly Bellys
    Great show guys !

    Mike & Ike's are awesome! But if your buying "American" candy that was made in Britain, not sure its really the same thing. If I'm remembering right, I thought we/you use different chocolate. Although I maybe wrong lol.

  • @BaddMatt
    @BaddMatt 6 лет назад

    Microwave S'mores! Hell no! Campfire all the way baby! You aren't supposed to heat the chocolate anyways, only the marshmallow.
    M&M Mint is not a popular flavor. M&M Peanut and Plain (Milk Chocolate) are the most popular ones. Snickers, Butterfingers, Payday, Baby Ruth, Hershey (Milk Chocolate and Almond) are the most popular candy bars.

    The Buttsrfunger is too sweet. The kisses are ok. I like the ones that have almonds in them. Twizleers, heh.
    Mint M&M are ok in moderation.
    The Mike and Ike, yummy. Sweet and sour.
    Yes, all those candies we do get here. My mom worked for Mars Candy back in the day. I hated chocolate then.
